Jellyfish can grow longer than a blue whale and are among the deadliest creatures on the planet. Their simple design comes in many shapes and sizes, some with tentacles packed with venom that can kill anything in its way. Meet one of the deadliest of them all, comb jellies. Found in the depeest depths of the ocean, this creature is different from other regular jellyfish in that they don’t use stingers; they have other strange weapons like hook-covered mouths and specialized adhesive tentacles that act like glue to catch its prey, which can sometimes be their own.
World’s Deadliest Jellyfish, part of the Deadliest Month Ever, this April, on National Geographic Wild UK 📺
Available to watch in the UK on Sky (165), Virgin Media (264), BT (318), TalkTalk (318) & TV Player

A couple things: comb jellies (ctenophores) aren't jellyfish (cnidarians), and the color being given off is due to diffraction, not refraction.

Comb jellies belongs to Phylum Phylum Ctenophora, commonly known as sea walnuts, are exclusively marine, radially symmetrical, diploblastic organisms with tissue level of organisation. The body bears eight external rows of ciliated comb plates, which help in locomotion. Bioluminescence is well-marked in ctenophores. Some of the common examples are Pleurobrachia, Ctenoplana, Beroe, Mnemiopsis and Bolinopsis.

would an organism with no brain have any stream of consciousness? a neural network but no brain puts a brick wall in my head that i cant figure out. i havent tapped into this but im curious to know what it would be like to not have any reaction other than just pure action. humans are fascinating but oddly enough, that seems even more fascinating to me

I was curious if the animal in the video was a ctenophora of the Nuda class, as it looks quite similar: - it doesn't seem to have tentacles - feeds on other ctenophora - has raptorial feeding behavior I don't know if there's an expert to answer this question, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could =)

@@dat1dude688 Jellyfish along with corals, anemones, hydroids, and siphonophores all belong to the phylum Cnidaria and are defined in part by their unique stinging cells and radial symmetry. Comb jellies belong to an entirely separate and older lineage of animals in the phylum Ctenophora and lack those unique traits that define cnidarians. They are colloquially called "jellies" because they superficially resemble jellyfish, but they are not closely related and their anatomy is quite different.
