In an attempt to move towards food self-sufficiency, the Japanese initiated the Grow More Food campaign. Vegetable farms were zoned throughout the island, gardening was introduced into the school curriculum, it became mandatory for government workers to spend designated hours farming, and farming colonies were formed outside Singapore. Exploring the realities of this move towards self-sufficiency, Tan Chong Hee, Lok Mei Lian and Joe Conceicao share their experience living in the farming colonies of Endau and Bahau. This episode also features an interview with Ivy Singh, the owner of the lifestyle farm Bollywood Veggies, on the necessity of forming a connection between food and the land.
