Got a hive for my birthday, managed to successfully split it a year afterwards, now that it's warming up all signs seem to indicate that both hives have a queen, that the colony has survived the winter months and that in spite of the presence of European honey bees there's still food around for both hives and the European bees, seen the workers returning to the hive with legs loaded with pollen by the busload.

I absolutely love watching our Aussie bees collecting pollen in the garden. So small but so mighty. It's a bonus that they don't sting but they're such a chill little hard worker.

Amazing, what a fantastic way to get your honey. No protection v from suits, no worries about getting stung hanging out the washing and all your plants get looked after by thousands of little Aussies. You are a lucky man Jerry. Once things get rolling for me I want to put some little beer motel's around for our friends. The kids next door can still play in the yard.

Excellent! Never knew that sting less bees too can be kept in boxes. I notice that the boxes are extra thick as compared to the Langstroth hive box. Perhaps this is to provide extra insulation from heat and cold. I also like the idea of having two sections of the brood chamber and the method of splitting the hive into two colonies. Great!

Interesting that on opening the hive @ 2.02, the bees are so subdued. I've never seen this before.

Where can I buy those empty hives? I have four hives of Carbonari that are just the bottom two brood boxes. I would like to be able to harvest some honey in the future.
