In 1782 the American Revolution raged into a brutal partisan war on the western frontier. In one of the most shocking actions of the conflict and perhaps the greatest Native victory of the war, British-Allied Seneca warriors raided the frontier city of Hannastown and burned it to the ground.

As a descendant of Adam George who had one of the local Blockhouses and who was involved during the defense of Hannah’s Town during the Indian/British attacks, I enjoyed this video. I’m always trying to find more information about my ancestors.- David George

Interesting story. Not one mention of the Carnahans (Carnaghans) of Westmoreland County. John Carnaghan was Sheriff of Westmoreland County during a part of that time. Carnahan Block House is noted in D.A.R. Files.

As I watched this as someone who grew up 10 miles away from the site and whose family owned it until the 1960s it’s interesting to hear a lot of the skewed history. You seem to blame a lot of it on the native Americans but it’s well documented that there were soldiers from the kings eighth Regiment as well As what are described as “canadien” combatants as well and that all of them were dispatched from Fort Niagara under orders to disrupt all continental efforts in the west.

I'm pretty sure the same day Hannastown was burned, they also burned the town of Congruity, which just east of Delmont. The church was burned, and attacked.

I really enjoy all of your programs. I was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Allison Park. How about you do some programs on the old oil fields there from Titusville, Sample and Allison Park. My uncle owned and is still operating several wells around Titusville for Penzoil. Sample once had a population of around 10,000 and in the 40's there were on 6 remaining. My grandmother had property in Allison Park and there was an old wooden oil derrick about 70 yards from the house. Thanks if you can do.

Hi, Brady it appers that you have done a lot of research on the state of Penna. Western Pa. is by far the best part of the state and not so over crowded. We went to Lake Erie many times during the summer and always enjoyd the times on the beach. My 5 Stritzinger uncles had a hunting cabin, it was pretty bleak but served its purpose, outside Titusville and my aunt worked on a fire service towner not far from there. Every year there would be a picture of 5 bucks on display outside the cabin and it always made a great picture for the Pittsburgh, Gazette. Keep up the great work.

I am a descendant of Patrick Hanna (1699-1758). Robert Hanna, founder of Hanna's Town was supposedly the son of Patrick. I have a copy of Patrick's Will and Robert is not named. Does anyone have information on whether Patrick was the father of Robert?
