What a magical place to live and work, loved the dual tyres on the quad. People often forget that humans have habitats also, if this timber is logged sustainably, and rids a few human habitats of MDF furniture, and waste by product type flooring, imported bamboo chopping boards, then its a good thing.

Amen to that! It's the exporting that piss me off. Let everyone else have the Pacific Rimu I say. Keep NZ wood in NZ.

It's good to see native timber harvested in a sensible manner.

Thanks for posting this. Lots of questions raised however. What ecological surveys were done prior to harvesting to ascertain a full species and habitat inventory? What percentage of mature trees are being left? Have you had the mature trees accurately aged? Have you left designated protected areas for habitat and /or reference purposes? What percentage of useable timber are you getting from an average tree?

Logging trees that take 600 or more years to get that big is not sustainable.

It is if the state and it's regs last 600 years, which it might, but it might not

I'm glad the owners fenced out goats which will benefit the forest. Unfortunately it can't be sustainable in the long run when trees over 100 years are being removed. By taking older trees, over time, the forest will get younger and more homogenous in age as trees are felled. Dead fallen trees are also a very important part of the forest ecosystem.

That's what the Punga's and shit are for. No point letting the nice big ones get to that point.

Not at all. Maori are the largest forestry owners now. Maybe you should do some mahi and make your own wealth
