How to keep your house cool in the summer without AC
Here you can see how I built a natural air conditioner. A natural air conditioner does not need electricity to operate. It works on the principle of natural airflow. This means we have air intake on the north side of the house, where the coldest air is. And the air outlet at the highest part of the house where the air is warmest. Only in this way, we will get nature's airflow.
There are more ways to build a natural air conditioner. For me, this is the easiest way.
This is my natural air conditioning house. Free cooling system.
Before building a natural air conditioner, do your research.

Excellent concept. I would add a screen under the entire row of the hole so bugs can't get in when you open that.

You need to put screen over the gap in the floor when you open the flap/floorboard in back of the cabin for the cool air inlet to keep mice or whgatever other critters might want to come in your cabin.

I live in Canada, and will be incorporating what I see here when my fiancé and I build our house. I've been looking for efficient "net zero" techniques for heating and cooling (because we have some intensely hot summer days along with our severely cold winters) and everything else I see is fairly expensive and\or complicated.

I noticed many buildings in Costa Rica have this set up. The hottest I've noticed it get is 85°F, so air conditioning wasn't practical. It was still uncomfortable when it is 80°F in the rainy season unless there is a nice breeze inside. Cute kitten by the way!

Yes, this is not an air conditioner. This is the natural flow of air. Which helps push hot air out of the house

It probably should work when you have good airflow a nice idea though I would suggest you to keep plants where the inlet is outside so that cool air comes in.

Man 😳 you seriously just stolen my idea... I'm building a custom design earth ship with used tires and earth bags, my design has lifted the home off the ground with a more common crawl space and using the gravity skylights that open pull the air under the home... but you did great 👍👍👍

I don't know I don't have a thermometer. But it’s similar when you get under a tree in the shade. If you put your hand close to the gap you feel the air flow.

Where is the air pressure coming from though? Or is the pressure from the top holes pulling?
@klerobi1
@klerobi1 3 жыл бұрын
This is natural airflow. Much like in a chimney. Yes, top holes pulling warm air out this means that cold air can get inside
@LucianoPinheiro78
@LucianoPinheiro78 2 жыл бұрын
The difference on temperature makes the airflow. We usually ignore this concept but it is strong enough to make things work. That's why the cold air entrance comes from the floor and the hot air goes on top.
@MrItalianfighter1
@MrItalianfighter1 2 жыл бұрын
Hot air rises. So with the openings near the ceiling, the hot air escapes, which causes a light vacuum inside the house. Because the hit air rising and escaping, it draws the cooler air in from the floor. Sort of like a vacuum. It creates negative pressure when hot-air escapees through the top.

shame i cant do this for my house. we have a concrete floor ;-; i have thought about using some sort of underground natural air conditioning, for example: putting some sort of a copper radiator in the ground and running a set of pipes to the roof and using a small fan to push the hot air down and the cool air up.

There is a video of a farmer in a hot summer cold winter area (maybe Idaho) he built greenhouses dug down a few feet into ground and pipes under ground maybe ten feet away from perimeter capturing air cooling it under ground before it came back up into green house and it helped him a lot . I really liked that idea. No mechanical involved.

I have been wondering why more off grid builders have not started building at night because whether it is higher temps or just more intense sun it really is too hot to build in day time anymore. If you live away from people that would be bothered by noise of course, and if a spot light of some sort can be used. Even in mild Indiana USA I will not even garden in day time anymore only morning and evening. I'm older so heat stroke is a real danger.

This is a smart and genius idea!! It totally makes sense. Even the slop of the roof helps the hot air inside rise to go up the sloped ceiling and out of the house. I just wonder how you’d keep bugs out when the floor vents are open unless there’s window screens underneath the floor vents. I’ll have to check out the other videos. 👍🏼
