Sad thing mate, seen it up here around Brisbane after the floods, but especially up at bribie area, lots of dead flatties washing up around sandstone point

Rapid Salinity and temp changes with rapid filling of freshwater salinity would still be on the low side I’d recon

Great vid Andy. Sad to see so many fish die but I guess that's life these days. It's not the first time this has happened and has always recovered over time which is a positive. I think it's important to make these videos and educate people about what's happening around the Gold Coast so well done mate 👍. Keep up the great content Andy! Tight lines mate 🤙🎣

0% oxygen recorded in ballina River a few weeks ago when all the fish were washing up dead

Huge inundation of freshwater from flooding also reduces the oxygen levels in local waterways. The Murray River and tributaries have the issue of “black water” (low or no usable oxygen combined with already dead carcasses rotting in the water) during flooding. I’d say a lot of SEQ’s waterways would’ve had a drop in oxygen levels as the volume of water passed through.

One theory is nutrient run off like you said it happend in Sydney also have a look at Windsor bait and tackle fish kill KZfaq channel there is a part where the fish are in the shallows trying to breath because deeper water has no oxygen.

Probably not, they’d be one of the few species in the system that would have had a decent chance of surviving the massive influx of fresh. On GC I’ve seen Tilapia in both the filthy near stagnant backwaters of the canals down in Burleigh Lake area and up in the far reaches of Saltwater creek where it’s essentially fresh. Destructive pest species for sure but they are resilient fuckers

Thats a shame i call it toxicity by the way of the councils worker's spraying that Glosophate weed killer everywhere once its in the water its like arsenic ya gone ...

Thats not true, its illegal to spray glyphosate near waterways and there are other herbicides that are frog and fish friendly. The fact is that even regular glyphosate becomes inert when it comes in contact with soil, you cant even use muddy or dam water to mix it as it will render it useless . Most fish kills are due to rapid temperature drops, unoxygenated blackwater , rapid drop in salinity or excessive sediment that hinders gill function .
