Fun fact about rabies: it doesn't actually make you hydrophobic. It makes you have throat spasms when you try to drink
@greasyclown20 күн бұрын
These are very painful in turn basically making you hydrophobic as you are terrified by the thought of drinking water
@ElysetheEevee20 күн бұрын
@greasyclown Not to mention, the virus can "control" the organism to some degree. Shutting down the brain barrier (which is why a vaccine or treatment once it's reached your brain and symptoms start won't work). From what I've researched (I have a huge fear and fascination with rabies and prion diseases), the hydrophobia is mostly found in furious rabies.
@ElysetheEevee20 күн бұрын
To be fair, though, it is still technically "hydrophobia" because the pain associates water with negativity and causes organisms to be afraid to attempt to drink. I've seen footage of several different humans trying to force themselves to drink, and after the initial attempt or two, become nearly hysterical when prompted to do so again. It's super sad. Since this is mostly seen in furious rabies, you may see some organisms drinking in early stage symptoms or even some with dumb rabies. Something I read at some point (I can't remember where) is that some very severe (and likely rare) cases, these muscle spasms around the vocal cords, causes such pain that even deeply inhaling can trigger spasms, resulting the phobia of air (aerophobia?). Rabies is absolutely terrifying. The fact that most mammal have the potential to contract it, even though most species it'd be super rare (such as rodents, opossums, etc.) is horrifying. Even having an animal that's died of rabies rot in the wild means there's a chance other animals contract it if their spinal fluid, saliva, or brain matter seeps into the earth. As long as there's moisture for the virus to settle in, it can stay in the ground for quite some time. When you see the rare cases of deer or moose with rabies, they've usually contracted vulpine strains by manners such as this. Truly scary....

You're talking humans, this is about animals.
@angrybudgie9617 күн бұрын
@ElysetheEevee I'm honestly surprised that there isn't a zombie movie/show that utilizes the true horrors of rabies. Like if the virus mutated into something worse than it is now so that the people who get it become undead.

No, please not! Netflix just spoils all, what it gets in its hands.

@@LichtTempler in fairness they got One Piece and Sonic correct. Netflix adaptations are either really good or really bad, and rarely in the middle.
@LichtTempler20 күн бұрын
@@beauwalker9820 Sonic the Hedgehog, film? I couldn't find any reference to Netflix. And One Piece I didn't see. May be it is an exclusion, like Arcane, where Netflix wasn't that deep in production and only gave money. From my side, in fairness, I can say, I saw news, that Netflix understands its problems and tries to do something about it. But I haven't seen real changes in results yet.

I never I’d understood why brood parasites can even work Does the parents not notice one of the babies is clearly way to big, looks nothing like the other children, eats way more than normal and later, not notice that strangely some of the children are jsut disappearing?
@delwysglokpor336213 күн бұрын
@@qbertsandy1367 Parasite birds like cuckoo actually evolved the ability to add colors and patterns to their eggs to match their targets. And I was told that since cuckoos are bigger, they also will retaliate against the smaller birds they offload their offspring on if they try to get rid of them. So may notice but if the egg hatches before then, they’re doomed.
@meganmarchionda116511 күн бұрын

4:48 if hydrophobia has set and and there's foaming at the mouth, the patient has practically no chance of survival. These symptoms usually take a many hours to manifest, though. The closer to the head the bite is, the faster the onset and progression of the disease. If you're bit by an animal that can possibly carry the rabes virus, that animal will be caught if possible and decapitated. the head is then examined to confirm the presence of Negri bodies (which appear as small black spots) inside a cross section of the base of the brain. These are a telltale sign of rabes infection and the only way to confirm rabes infection apart from waiting several weeks to see if the animal exhibits symptoms. We usually don't wait that long because the rabes vaccine needs to be administered immediately to the bite victim in order for the body to have a chance at fighting off the virus through immune response before it travels up the nervous system to the brain. The post-exposure administration of the rabes vaccine pretty unique as a method of treatment, as nearly all vaccines are administered pre-exposure as a form of prophylaxes.

You all could seriously do a full length show. Hell, 11 minutes per ep divided into two segments on two different animals would be good. If not the classic 22 minutes divided in two. I mean, there are so many repeat roles it would be fantastic. Obviously it would be much different, but replace the gore with animal trivia and you basically have something like Happy Tree Friends. I would love that show and would definitely do what I could to help if ya had a crowd funding thing going on. I could easily see Animal Planet showing something like that if it was informative enough and just put it on no earlier than 9pm. I mean, way better than even MORE bigfoot stuff. (don't get me wrong, I love bigfoot. But as an allegory.)
