Stevean2 The Whips are very hardy and resistant to damage (they are defense towers after all) GLs absolutely Wreck any Alien structure with the benefit of AoE, second best however is a long burst from a Flamethrower, A half tank of Flamer fuel can take out an entire defense nest aliens have set up along with possible critters along the way. A GL Cylinder and a half would be good for that equivalent however. (GLs hold 4 shells) The thing is you almost never find more than 3 Whips together at once, which means they planned this. Whips are very expensive and peculiar to grow and place.(being a defense tower though, they are worth it) Those spikes that come out of the ground are a barrier Btw, not a weapon. The Alien Commander can "summon" Them into an area and block LoS but not damage people. Also, the Aliens have 5 morphs, the basic "Skulk" Is a quick clever Bastard that loves to attack in groups but can't do much more (until late game when they can kamikaze) "Gorges" are defensive engineers who have a heal spray, they can construct all sorts of defenses, damaging and otherwise and help build structures faster. "Lerks" are flying creatures with a weak disposition that can create a poison fog or shoot spikes. "Fades" are deadly assassins that can teleport (costs regenerative energy while in use) and use powerful deadly stabs. Be careful of these, they can take a beating. most often takes three or four Marines with shotguns. "Onos" The Monster. Takes countless GL Shells and shotgun shells to take down. Can kill a marine in three hits even with Max Armor. Can stun an entire squad of marines at once and destroy them. "Marine" Basic human foot soldier, can equip: Jet pack, GLs, Shotgun, Flamethrower, pistol, Axe, Welder, Machine Gun, AoE Frag grenades, AoE Gas grenades (lowers enemy armor), AoE Stun grenades (Cripples enemy Energy). Vulnerable to Gas and can get upgraded damage or Armor (Commander researched) "ExoSuit" Heavy Hitting armored suit renders marine invulnerable to gas and gives you allot of Armor. Can be equiped with one or two Miniguns OR One or two railguns. Can get upgraded Damage or Armor (Commander researched) Each of these upgrades and morphs for the aliens takes points; points earned by securing Resource Tower areas and holding them until your commander can build a resource tower, then protect it the rest of the game. These towers give the Commander and the soldiers points. Commander can use points to research upgrades for "soldiers" or build structures. (I will not go in detail on those unless you ask me to) Each soldier can take those earned points and purchase weapons and evolutions the Commander researched or morph to another alien (Alien only) That's the basic gist of playing a footsoldier in this game, You wouldn't believe the Commander aspects and the tactics. *So the answer to your question: yes. Frontiersmen (Marines) and Khalaa (Aliens) have a pretty even win/lose ratio that can depend on the maps. (I wanted to simply write that but I got carried away explaining why)*

The info I just gave you covers all the base knowledge of the game for infantry (Except tactics, and there are allot) But if you ever try Commanding, prepare yourself to be shouted at by even the Mellow players, As long as everyone does their minimum job however most average players stay mellow, they understand the learning curve since they had to learn it too (Most players...)
