this is the best documentary i've seen on dog sledding, it's amazing. in an age where everyone is making documentaries, 26 year-old national geographic docs are still the cream of the crop.

The Yukon is so overlooked. But I like it that way.. people call Alaska the last frontier but still the Yukon is barley explored (flying over it with a plane/drone or satellite imagery doesn’t count unless we’re talking LiDar)

The statue in New York's Central park, although modeled after Balto is dedicated to and honours all the ca.150 dogs who participated in the Serum Run. The inscription reads: "Dedicated to the indomitable spirit of the sled dogs that relayed antitoxin six hundred miles over rough ice, across treacherous waters, through Arctic blizzards from Nenana to the relief of stricken Nome in the Winter of 1925. Endurance · Fidelity · Intelligence" Those who live in or visit New York may also go out and find another less well known statue of a dog of Serum Run fame: It can be found on the corner of Essex Street and Canal Street in the Eastside of Manhattan in the childrens' playground of Seward Park and it depicts Togo.
