As a child and teen, I’d lay on my trampoline at night staring at the stars listening to this nature. I’d also go to my back porch in the middle of the night and just listen to this incredible nature. I miss growing up in the woods. Even where I’m moving to in a few weeks I will get to hear this. I’m moving back north from Florida, which does not have these nice sounds of nature in the woods down here. I do miss my childhood home tucked way in the woods. My parents sold the home a long way back.

Memories are great, but in reality the fan was in the window blowing on high because it was after 10pm and still 85 degrees outside, and you had no air-conditioning. Your bed was soaked because of your own sweat and you couldn't sleep because the night critters were to damn loud. Not to mention the loud ass fan. But you are right. Nothing like Memories of the good ole days.

55 years later, I can still hear the sounds that all the critters in the woods across our gravel road made. That was before our window air conditioner and then the whole house air conditioner. I loved listening to that sound.

Ah yes the simpler times, when tiny computers on peoples wrists were the stuff of Dick Tracy cartoons and no one believed in such things. Back when you needed a dime to use a pay phone and gasoline was 18 cents a gallon AND they washed your windshield AND checked your oil. You know, before there were so many people that it was still quiet at night, except of course, for sounds such as these. I miss those times and the relatively pain free innocence of youth.

Living in the bush in Central Ontario one of the happiest sounds of the year is the spring peepers - small toads that chirp constantly every night during their spring mating season. After months of absolute winter silence they are a welcome sign that the long winter is finally over.

I've been in the PNW for a decade. I took it for granted in Spencerport. When it was gone I was surprised to find it to be the absolute thing I miss most. To this day I find these sounds, especially this vid that doesn't quite exactly sound like WNY, to be nearly too much to take in. It is the most intense nostalgia I have ever experienced.

When I was 12 I lay in bed listening to this with my blue tick hound dog. His name was Rufus and he snored louder than any human. I loved him though. And he loved sleeping in my bed. One night I heard a mountain lion roar. I jumped up and grabbed my 22 marlin rifle. I watched him in the road moving slowly. I was taking the screen out of the window so I could shoot him. When my grandfather stuck his head in my room and told me to stop. I asked why? And he said he's hunting the foxes that are killing the chickens. It's a memory I'll never out grow. And this brings me back to that night. BTW, Rufus never took his head off that damn pillow.

It's lovely to hear that spending time outside in nature brings back fond memories of your childhood in Colorado, and in particular, listening to the frogs at night. I can imagine how peaceful and calming that must have been. Even though you're now living in Australia, it's nice to know that you can still connect with those memories and feel a sense of homecoming. I'm glad that I could play a small part in bringing you back to those happy times. Best wishes!

I remember these sounds most recently from my trips with my wife to her home country, Venezuela (1991-1996) where every night we would listen to these wonderful sounds as we drifted to sleep in the late hours of the evening! Having lived in the country as a boy it was crickets, frogs, owls, and the occasional coyotes which all but were forgotten after moving into the city for several years. So glad to have found this to listen to no matter the season outside my window! Thanks!

I live on 3.5 acres in the wichita mountains of Oklahoma, and I hear these insects also. My dogs started barking a couple of nights ago, and I had a female Elk on my back porch!!! (I am Also under a 145 sq.mi. no fly zone!!!) Brother James OSB

Reminds me of an Oklahoma summer night.... except I'm living in Colorado now so it's a little too cold for the cicadas... and I don't remember seeing any frogs here either 😕 Beautiful sounds though.

had to come to this video tonight. reminds me of being back in Tennessee. i love California, but there's nothing like clearing your mind late at night, sitting outside, listening to something like a harmony. i also just really miss the sound of cicadas haha. brings back peace.
