I’ve been in construction y entire life. I love seeing every build come together. Still love it, and to see a boat come together that’s a bonus………but Rico, your turn is coming up. You need to do a deep dive into the mechanical logistics. Might bore Vic, but us tech heads we need it. I’d love to see how it was plumbed, wired all the interior behind walls. Please. Love the build, but I say this every time I comment

Yacht sizing is confusing because when looking for docking the length is crucial. But, isn’t your master’s (captain’s) license rating on gross tonnage? But, as this video shows it is interior volume that is the usable measurement. Great video guys.🙏🇨🇦👍
@chuckbecker4983
@chuckbecker4983 Ай бұрын
Yes, deck licenses are by type (steam/motor, sail, whatever), size (gross tonnage), and route (inland, lakes/bays/sounds, great lakes, near coastal, oceans ... oceans includes all lesser). There is an additional endorsement for "towing vessels". So a mariner can hold two master's licenses, for example: "master, agt*, oceans" and "master, towing vessels". * "any gross tons", ie; unlimited. Then there's a whole salad bowl of lesser licenses, too variegated for concise description.

It makes you wonder if internal usable floor space overall shouldn't be an important metric for measuring boat "size". After all, houses are usually measured by floor space, why not boats?

Love you guys videos. Here is a small issue that may need to be addressed with customers. When looking to dock your boat or go in for a haul out or other services that most marinas are going to charge you BY THE FOOT.....what do you tell the yard? If any boat feels larger than its stated LOA according to the builder and customer why would the number at the end of your boat make a difference. If I could by a boat (money no object) I would wait for the Silent Yacht 120 (hope they figure things out over there), but its beam can make it feel like a 165' monohull. I would feel suspect renaming it a Silent 165. I would like to know your thoughts on this.....

@@NautiGuys I get the marketing point, but not the reality point. The production manufacturers started this size exaggeration back in the 90's. I didn't buy into then and I still don't today.
@RiverWoods111
@RiverWoods111 Ай бұрын
@@stevemccormick4938 This is not an exaggeration though, this boat if I recall has two hulls or one double-wide hull, and therefore is double the size of a 75' boat. That is why they are saying it doesn't feel like a 75' boat. They took a 100' boat and cut it in half so it is 75 feet but feels more like a 90-foot boat. So catamarans are always about 1.5 times the size of monohulls in living space. You don't get a full double-size boat, but you definitely get a lot more living/sailing space and a much more stable boat.

I love the new Office (Showroom, consultation area, customer planning space) it's a great idea. I have seen something similar in the Bespoke luxury car market. I think you should look into the virtual 3D tours of possible designs, because all the data sets already exist in CAD to do it. One question on your own yacht. Will this have any impact on the areas you can get into or the qualifications requited to operate it?

OK, I have been confused since the beginning? What is the length of this boat?? 75? 82? Meters... feet??? 😐😐 OK, gross tonnage, volume, all very cool for Bering but length and beam mean something. For docking purposes are marinas going to ask for gross tonnage or length and beam? What if I just want to know at any point in time how long my boat is?
@marvindebot3264

Feet, not metres, LOL. Of course a marina wants to know the length and beam but how does a model name affect that or you knowing what it is?
@RiverWoods111

Marina is going to ask what is your LOA and then the beam. They charge based on that because that is the space that the Yacht will take up in the marina. It is needed because they need to know if you will fit next to that other yacht.

I love the benefits of Baring Yachts and the viewpoint given. If I may suggest a change in the brochure, not the name of the yacht, Add to the brochure under the Gross Tons section Living /Entertaining space, Crew Space & Work Space expressed in sq/ft and sq/m. All customers are trying to relate space to their known living conditions on land expressed in "sq/ft and sq/m.". Also, state as a "Note" the typical "X" market Yacht volume for that class in Gross Tonnage and Living /Entertaining space, Crew Space, and work Space expressed in sq/ft and sq/m. This would reflect the TRUE VALUE of a Bering Yacht. Do the math for the customer that communicates the benefit in terms they can relate to. Changing the name of the Yacht may have the opposite effect on a customer; all it would take is a voice of criticism that the buyer did not get the full length. Bering's competitions would be glad to jump on that opportunity..... So don't give it to them.!

I get the 75 to 82 and 80 to 88, the explanation justifies it. My question is how does this work with the Certification for a captain and does it impact the insurance topic???? Recently I was listing to a broker On the Yachts for Sale channel (our mutual friend David) and he was listing a rough price range for a Feadship and he, to my surprise was saying its about X amount per Gross Ton. He did not mention the length at all. So based on this and what Alexei was telling us it now makes perfect sense.

Mis labeling a boat and lying about the length is just not right. You cannot make up an LOA. If you want to initiate a change in the industry, use the GT as the model number.
@josephgeorgeejr7039

Same kind of principle in motorcycle industry, you have a model bike call a 300 refers to engine, but in reality it is 292cc not 300cc but they call it a 300, loa is not subjective, but interior volumes are not always indicative of loa, so instead of changing industry advertising standards to quote interior volumes which to complicated, I agreed giving manufacturers the option to state a longer loa that is more relative to volumes than changing the model description is easier and better for consumers

First, Bering isn’t the first to do this. But… honestly the whole numbers of yachts is like…. “Tell me a lie.” The boat “size” often doesn’t match the LOA, hull length, or what.

Very interesting information and it makes more sense to consider the "living space" over just the length of a boat. This should be a measurement that allows for real comparison. Will you incorporate the GT into future videos?

I keep thinking how to spec one of these so I can afford to live on it. I need fiberglass price… that’s prolly a lifeboat in explorer world. But I’m hooked!

Is it actually possible to create an assymetrical main deck on some of the Berings? Did you consider it or is it technically not a good idea? On the 88 it looks quite doable to me. No stairs leading up on the starboard side.

hmmmm, I loved the 75 number more-- perhaps just adding an XXL after the LWL? ;) OR-- like they do with 747 radio call signs: "HEAVY" lol

The perfect cure to 7ftitus! Seriously such a more realistic description of what you are building. What a great explanation from Alexi, as always. He takes the complicated tech speak and translates it into language us mere mortals can understand. Love that man 👍🤩

May I ask what is the red clay looking composition that is put over the steel of the hull to give the steel hull a fiberglass smooth look? I had no idea. Does it ever crack due to flexing? What is long term maintenance like? Thank you!
@billblack3093

I can answer this one... That is called "fairing compound". Here is the exact definition of what it is used for from our friends at Fibreglast - "Fairing and filling compounds are designed to repair and shape finished composite parts while retaining as much of the original piece strength as possible. The versatile compounds can be used for filling, adhering, building, shaping and finishing composites and other materials." So...yes, it is body filler for boats used to make the surfaces of a steel yacht smooth like a fiberglass vessel would be. AFAIK the only big issues that might come up with fairing is if there is a big impact with something heavy and hard. I believe that Aleksi said in the episode about "rusty boats" that the failring process, labor and materials, would cost upwards of $1 point something million.

Thank you very, very much for taking the time to explain! I never really gave it much thought. There’s not much in the way of KZfaq…only with smaller boats. I appreciate it, Bill.

Rico, several years ago a yacht came into the end of our dock and I was going to help him. He said no I’m OK. I have proximity thrusters. In other words, the boat could stay a foot away from the dock with no one helping him the thrusters would sense the dock and forward and reverse the thrusters. I researched it. I never could find anything like that. Did you ever hear of anything like proximity thrusters? Thanks John the plumber.

Name for your boat. VICTORIA Meaning & History Means "Victory" in Latin, being borne by the Roman goddess of victory. It is also a feminine form of Victorius. This name was borne by a 4th-century saint and martyr from North Africa. One word, internationally recognizable and appropriate considering I believe Victoria is a Goddess.

So wise , thank you . I still think that loa is important . after all if you're boat is 90 ft long , the dock needs to be at least 90 ft long 100 would be my minimum . on a Med moor then width is the factor and draft. I agree Nice office

GFBISA: Oh wow! When I heard the news, I got goose-bumps for you guys! I guess most people think that length compartmentalises yachts, and Super Yachts,, but this explains it so much better..... The best thing is that you are actually "getting more for your money with a Bering"😁 Right from the outset, when i started following you, and your escapades, it was your enthusiasm that grabbed my attention, and I am not surprized that you went with Bering, because you are a great match... You and Bering are literally "So much more for your money"..... So pleased for you. Take care and be safe out there 😊😊
