Fighting AI one on one often reminds me of dogfighting. In kill missions, it's like you start at a neutral position to each other. Most people attacking AI or players try to get the wind advantage first. This is like climbing above your opponent in War Thunder, DCS, IL-2, or Rise of Flight before starting the fight.

Cool vids man, your younglings are learning much Master Yoda! Sometimes i lose details when the SFX overpower your voice, so maybe just a little higher voice over volume please? Or chat when the omega broadsides aren't going off :) Perhaps some tips or a quick vid on some focused mast shooting and PVP boarding, unless it is so random?

It is a continuous battle with trying to make sure my voice is heard over the SFX, and I am considering simply muting the SFX in future videos until I can find better video-editing software. Thank you for the suggestions on topics - I will have new content uploaded this Friday!

I don't understand how u keep the AI broadside to broadside. When I fight them they always turn to fire bow or stern guns and then it goes to crap.
@MichaelSharp667
@MichaelSharp667 3 жыл бұрын
If they are turning in towards the right and firing bow guns at you, this means you need to start your approach farther upwind, to the left. Not too far, but just try a little farther upwind. This will make them try to shoot a broadside, rather than turn towards you. Hope that helps. o7

Yes they could have adjusted it! I think it also has to do with shot placement, dispersion, and maybe books. But carros are still devastating up close. Thanks for the support captain!

@@MichaelSharp667 Eh no worries man, not many still make video's of naval action anymore. Its great to see youtubers/streamers still playing. Even with its flaws there is no other game quite like this one and I love it.

Agreed the game is far from a “perfect game” but it is still amazing! A few mechanical issues but other than that very beautiful graphics and physics.

Excellent tutorial Michael, very clear and efficient! I had some questions around the after battle scenario. 1. When you win a battle (like demonstrated above) can you take the ship as well as the cargo? Or would you have to raid the enemy ship whilst it was still in one piece? 2. If you are boarded in a defeat and the opponent tales your ship, do you have to build that ship from scratch again? 3. Once you have a ship pamphlet say for Hercules. Do you build it by collecting all the material manually (sailing around picking it up) or, do you just buy the parts with the in game currency? 4. I know you can buy two or three types of gun for your ships, do you do the same for the hull (heavy hull for fighting or light hull for speed), Rudder, sail etc? How many different areas can you upgrade? Anyway, really enjoyed the video, any steer with these really basic questions would be fantastically helpful for me. Cheers Martin

Martin thank you for all your questions! 1: If you sink an enemy ship, you cannot capture it to use later. You can sail up to it to loot it and you’ll probably get some items like more hull repairs, a ship upgrade, or knowledge books. If you want to capture the ship, you would need to get close to it and board it. You can only capture 7th-5th rates from Ai on the PvP server though. 2: If you get sunk or lose in boarding, your ship is gone for good. 3: If I am reading this correctly you are wondering about ship notes? If you have something in your inventory that is a Hercules or Rattlesnake Note, you just need to right click and select “use” while in port. You’ll be able to choose the wood type for hull and planking, and then it will appear in your navy tab in port. 4: In terms of upgrading your ship, the only thing you can change is the Hull and Planking types. Each ship does have some permanent upgrade slots, where you can add upgrades that improve different aspects of the ship, as well as 5 ship knowledge slots you can unlock. These two features allow you to “customize” a ship, but there currently isn’t a way to change rigging, sails, etc. I hope that answered your questions! Some of them are actually topics of future videos I plan on releasing in the coming weeks, so stay tuned! Thank you!

@@MichaelSharp667 thanks for answering my questions, I really appreciate that!. Just to clarify a couple of things. So, a "Ship note" is essentially the plans to build the named ship on the note? You pick what wood you want it made from (based on how you will use the ship - speed / strength and it appears right away or does it take some time? Do you pay anything from in game currency for the ship? Capturing: so if I win against you in "PvP" (HMS victory v HMS Victory) and I kill your crew after boarding and your ship is has minor damage, can I now take your ship and put it in my port and sail it or sell it to make money? How and where do you get ship notes? Are they common? Do players sell ship notes? I was a little concerned to fight anything in case I lost my ship - losing ships sounds brutal. Great to see your content coming through, you will soon gather subscribers. Cheers for all the help 🍺

Well there are a few ways to get a ship. One is by crafting it, in which case you need all the wood, coal, iron, stone, etc materials needed. One way is to buy it from the store in port. One way is to capture it. And one way is by ship notes you can find or buy (if you’re lucky enough to find one for sale). When you redeem these notes, you get the ship with the wood types you picked right away in your port. Also, yes your question regarding the HMS Victory is correct. If you win a boarding action against me (in PvP) you can then capture that ship and bring it back to port with you, where you can do whatever you want with it! Or you could just sink it right there in battle. I wouldn’t be worried about losing your ship in a fight because it is fairly easy to make money in the game (I just made a money making tutorial) and you can join a clan that can help you with crafting/supplies. You won’t get better at fighting unless you go out and fight! We all gotta take risks but that is what makes it fun! :D

Thanks for that Michael - I will keep you posted, I just watched your other video, very useful. I am now going to work through the tutorials to the final exam as recommended. Cheers and keep the videos coming, there is nothing out there that covers what you are doing - just top players killing "stuff" with hundreds of ships, hard to take much from them. Anyway, I am just a way out for a walk in Sunny Scotland 25 degrees here today (rare). Cheers Martin

Michael, Great video, I’m looking forward to trying this tactic. But first, a really dumb question: how do you join a kill mission battle? I have sailed to the crossed swords icon in open world (pve), but clicking on it does nothing. I can click on port battles and wind zones, but not kill missions... Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
@MichaelSharp667
@MichaelSharp667 4 жыл бұрын
Hello! There are a few reasons it may not be working for you. 1) once you click on the crossed swords, you actually need to click on a button in the top right that says “begin” or something like that. 2) You may not get the option to do this if you are sailing in the wrong ship. Each kill mission has specific guidelines, such as: “sink 1x 5th rate, max rate allowed, 6th rate” so that means, if you sail up to the swords in a 5-1st rate, you won’t be able to begin the battle as you would need to be sailing in a 7-6th rate in order to do it. Those are the two things that come to my the top of my head. Let me know if that doesn’t work! o7
@overnightdonkey

Michael Sharp it’s pretty mysterious... I’m in the correct rank ship, but when I click on the swords I don’t even get a dialogue box. It’s like I’m clicking on thin air. Might be a question for the devs!

@MichaelSharp667
@MichaelSharp667 3 жыл бұрын
The carronades do a lot of damage at close range, but aren’t as effective at medium/long range. There was a recent patch that changed the gunnery and penetration mechanics, so it might be beneficial to try again with long guns instead of carros and see what the difference is!

@DryAx3
@DryAx3 3 жыл бұрын
Not the fastest method! Try going leeward of enemy ship, then turn downwind and continue rotation right all the way into tack upwind. Doing so you will have your left broadside emptied into his left side, both going downwind you will have your right broadside empty into his left side, AI then continues left turn (every time), you continue right so again your left broadside falls on his left side, continue through tack and your right broadside is already prepared for his left side when he completes his left turn into tacking as well. One 360°turn = 4 broadsides to his left side and he s gone. But you need to use perpendicular canon projection, switching stern and bow starting point while meneuvering tight turns without changing direction. For really tight turns you absolutely need depower and slow down. Going fast increases your turn radius. In small ships this technique is challenging since they turn so fast. Going upwind of AI is only usefull if you wanna hit bellow waterline. My record is sinking 3 ships with only 3 broadsides, less than 5 min for Trinc, Belle Poule and Cerberus, most of it good positioning (in Redoutable).

I will have to give it a try. My tactics vs ai are a little blunt. When they come head on I just ram them, them pin them in a broadside turn until where dead into the wind. Then I eather board them or just pound them until thier armor is gone.
@MichaelSharp667
@MichaelSharp667 5 жыл бұрын
That is a good one too! It probably gives you some nice experience in boarding too!

The path isnt certain though, 3 times they did something different, and you ar eusing the strongest 5th rate, most likely Live Oak/White Oak

Indeed, this is not a fool-proof system. The ai will sometimes still sail in a different manner, but I have used this method for two years. Take some time to try it and experiment - it takes time to get the hang of it! =]

No problem! Yes I have some other videos I plan to make over the next few weeks, but if you have anything specific you would like to see, please let me know! Also, in response to your first comment about my ship I was using, it’s actually a Teak/Teak/Fast with some port bonuses. I think the port bonuses help a lot, but in the first fight you can see that I bounced a number of the Cerberus’ broadsides, so they did very little damage! It’s important to build ships in ports where your nation has invested into port bonuses for shipbuilding because you can get really tough ships out of there!

Yikes! Have you tried the method while facing only one opponent? Maybe that would help so you get the hang of it and can get one knowledge slot unlocked in the process. Also, if you;re using a belle poule, try the carronades. I recently started using them on it and it has helped in these kill missions.
