This was a hard video to watch, being an American Japanese, I had family members fought on both sides of the conflict. A lot of them died as a result. During the attack on Pearl Harbor I had a relative who was a sailor on board the Battleship "Maryland" and a relative on board the aircraft carrier "Zuikaku" as a torpedo pilot. It just feels weird, how only a few generations ago my family members were killing each other but thanks to their sacrifice, their determination to make a better world, I exist. It really makes you think and it reminds myself of what kind of person I wish to be, a person who can live up to them, a person who can make the world a better place.

When the smoke and fire on board the USS Arizona was put out days after the attack, salvage teams found her 3" anti-aircraft guns still trained at the sky with spent shell casings on deck. Proof that she didn't go down without a fight.

I am Japanese-American and this day impacted my family greatly. I could say a lot but let me tell you about my grandfather. He was in Los Angeles when he heard about the attack over his car radio. He would join the army (once they allowed Japanese-Americans to serve again) and served as a code breaker and interpreter in the Pacific. Later he would be assigned to MacArthur's camp during the post-war occupation. During those years, he and a friend in the same unit would seek out distant relatives he had never met in person and deliver duffel bags full of food and supplies. He was quiet about that time and never boastful about his service. He passed some years ago at age 103.

I am Swiss and did not have to experience the war at that time. Nevertheless, I have the greatest respect for all the achievements and the fighting spirit that one had to have at that time to fight the evil. I realize that my freedom and the integrity of our own country are due not least to people like Gen. George S. Patton, his soldiers, and also to the people of the United States themselves for their accomplishments in the fight against evil. Again, thank you for your courage, your dedication. I believe that without all of you, my future and the future of my country would have looked much bleaker. For me, all US soldiers of the 2nd World War are true heroes. - THANK YOU VERY MUCH !

My great-great uncle was at Pearl Harbor on his ship, the USS Maryland, and survived. He passed away in Oct. 2018 at age 95.

It’s hard to comprehend that humans used to fight each other like this. At the time, the most advanced aircraft, battleships, and machine guns going toe-to-toe. What a fascinating time in our short modern history.

Was there ever a memorial or other tribute for the crane operator? This is the first I've heard of this heroic effort.

Thank you for that video. I am Canadian but whenever we are in Hawaii I must go to Pearl Harbor to pay my respects to the men and women that served and serve there. Also you helped me relive my vacation from last year with this and the Bowfin video as ! have been to all those modern locations in the video.

RANDOM FACT The five submarines Japan sent in were all destroyed. One member of one of the midget submarines were taken captive and held as a prisoner of war throughout World War II.

Was stationed at Scofield Barracks with the 25th Infantry, went to the memorial twice once with my Company the other by myself, very humbling experience thinking of those brave souls entombed there forever, God Bless them and all that was there on that faithful day

I’ve actually visited pearl harbour and stood above the USS Arizona. Words cannot describe the awe and despair I felt seeing the ruined battleship that had become a tomb for so many. It’s honestly harrowing, there’s seeing it in a book or on a screen, then there’s standing over the real thing. It’s crazy

Love this documentary, I've been watching it every year for the past few years, and its still great!

Gaming and watching history at the same time i learned more than my modules...community quarantine brought me here since last yr.

My great grandfather was a WW2 Navy vet who was originally assigned to the Missouri, aka the Mighty Moe, for engine room work. He was aboard her when she was christened but when it was time for her to sail down the east coast and to the Pacific, he “jumped ship” meaning he was essential personnel and abandoned his post. After serving 6 months in the brig he was assigned to a supply ship. During that time his job was to bring troops in and bring wounded out during the last few battles. I say all of this because every anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor I wonder what he was thinking at the time and due to his original assignment I have a special connection to the Missouri

My parents in Portland were listening to the radio, and waiting for a friend who was a Naval, later Marine aviator. My mother was going to receive her first plane ride in a rented Civilian aircraft. The friend called and told of the attack, which was also being announced on the radio. Needless to say, the flight lesson was cancelled.

my uncle was there when the attack happened. He was stationed there and survived. He couldn't talk much about it but did say he was near the mouth of the entrance when it started. Too painful. He did say the days leading up to it were odd, not the usual movements of ships and people..meaning the carriers were out to sea, etc...like this was known to happen in advance....

The US Submarine U.S. DOLPHIN was there that day sharing a mooring with other subs. A customer of mine, a Mr. Krebs was on board. His vessel shared the downing of a Japanese plane. The DOLPHIN was spared, and patroled afterwards once or twice, but either due to unnoticed near miss bomb damage or poor construction, the DOLPHIN leaked, and was religated to a training vessel at New London, CT.

Im 17 and about to Join the Navy, yet I hate my generation because most of them actually dont care on how many brave lives where taken on this day, the sailors that manned their battle-stations and fought back towards the hostiles. These men deserve our respect, which none of my generation don’t appreciate. May their brave souls never be forgotten⚓️

Even though this neither happened in my lifetime nor that I belong to either nationality involved , this tragic history and the date will always be entrenched deeply in me and remembered as "the 911 that happened before 911".

I went to Pearl Harbor as the last stop on a cruise in Hawaii a decade ago. I felt the feelings of viewing directly into the past from there. Such events must never be forgotten. As history does show us in the end, the past is what brings us to the present. And it is this history that provides us with the foundation for us to make sure that events like these NEVER happen again.

I was impressed by the enthusiasm of WoWS to create such a large amount of CG for this video even though they are busy modeling the game ships. The narration and video are really great. Thank you.

Respect for the video wargaming. Because of this attack had 3 family members that fought in ww2 from different sides of the family. 1 was a destroyer crewman. The other and his brother flew b-17's over germany. The brother was shot down and died in the crash. Never met the man who flew the b-17's he passed before i came around. The other never spoke of his time on the destroyer. We found the medals of the man who flew B-17's in an old cabin he built himself. 2 silver stars and a bronze star were among them. Tucked away in a night stand. For years i only knew he was in the army i only recently found out he was Army aircorp flying b-17's after some discussion about my own merits after 6 years of service in the usaf. 2006-2012. Dam shame i never met him. But thank you for the videos none the less.

When they show 99% of the AA fire returned by the US Forces during the attack on Pearl Harbor as being 20mm Oerlikon cannons it bothers me. The 20mm Oerlikon automatic canon was only barely available to the fleet in Dec of 1941. That gun was still in the testing phase of development and had not been sent out to the fleet yet. Possibly the only fleet unit that was equipped with it was the AA training vessel USS Utah. The vast majority of the AA weapons used during the Japanese attack were 50 cal Browning MG, and 30 cal Browning MG and 3 inch/45 AA cannons. Some 5 inch guns as well were used. However there also were no 40mm Bofors in use yet either, they were not available until mid 1943. Just FYI for the sake of accuracy.

Back then "Remember Pearl Harbor" was the phrase that everyone would use to motivate and unite each other. I wish, somehow, we can rediscover that same motivation and unity as before. God knows we need it even now.

I married my wife who is from Japan last year on beaches of Ohau and we went to USS Missouri to pay our respects and visited the same spot were Japan surrendered and also sunk the Arizona which lay in front of the Missouri. It was a very surreal feeling knowing how different the world was almost 80 years ago in that exact same spot....

Pearl Harbor was like a prelude to a movie/game

Hearing the US National Anthem as the Japanese planes started their attack runs was very unnerving and chilling. RIP to all sailors and pilots who fought that day. even though it was devastating in the moment, this one event drove the US to join the war against tyranny, and changed world history forever.

The Major issue right now is, whether by Apathy or Design, We ARE forgetting the lessons of Pearl Harbor & I suspect that the costs paid for that lapse will be just as high if not higher.

WOW I noticed when talking about taylor and welch, when you go inside the P40's cockpit you hear a radio, this radio is of a Lancaster crew over germany in 1945 shooting down a FW190. such a nice detail
