Navratri means nine nights- a Hindu festival celebrated across India. The fasting period may differ for everyone but it also has many health benefits Due to the earth's tilted axis at 23.5 degrees, we experience seasonal changes. Our immunity declines as the seasons change. There is evidence that the immune system is weakened by exposure to cold/hot temperatures. A study found that the makeup of our blood and fat, as well as our immune cells, are all impacted by the seasons. They practise intermittent fasting (upvas) for these nine days and eat satvik food. Saatvik foods are considered as being pure, and wholesome, and facilitate peacefulness. They also aid in cleansing and provide rest for the digestive system. According to Ayurveda, foods are divided into 3 categories- Rajasic foods, Tamasic foods, and Saatvik foods. Rajas and Tamas are described as unripe, weak, spiteful, and harmful entities while Saatvik implies pure, natural, fresh, clean, and energetic. People eat saatvik foods when fasting. But, there is a scientific explanation for it in addition to the religious one. Our immunity typically degrades with the change in seasons. Thus, switching to a Satvik diet during this season allows your digestion to relax and release any toxins from your body.

Very well explained... Just to add to it... these facilitates control over our senses... hunger, urge to have meat, pain (when walked without shoes) so on. Start with what fits you most... and you can increase or add variation to earlier version every year.. again if you are willing to 😊 Enjoy.Wish you happy navratri, Jai mata di🙏 🙏

Fasting is called upwas in India. Symbolically, fasting is an act of sacrifice, in which one sacrifices food and hunger to God as a mark of devotion and surrender. Fasting purifies the mind, controls passion and the senses and checks emotions. Fasting, for many Hindus, is also a sort of penance as it provides a window to escape from sins. Btw Happy Navratri🎉 and u definitely should try out the traditional dance called Garba..

I would like to add more to this.... fasting can be done as per you body's endurance. One can fast either by not eating or drinking anything during the fast(known as NIRJALA UPWAS or waterless fasting) or they can have something that is not heavy for the stomach. Hence, There are many variations to fasting such as eating only one meal a day, eating only fruits during the fast, eating only starchy fruits and vegetables and not having any grain, drinking only juices(fresh indeed) of fruits and vegetables, etc. One can choose any form of fasting but has to be strict about the fasting method. The main motive of fasting is to cleanse the digestive system, mind and the body as during this period our body cleans itself. So it is better to not have anything that can be heavy to your digestive system such as meat, food grains and even onion and garlic. The body spends a massive amount of energy to digest these food items. Navratri is a festival of 9 days during which we worship all sorts of energy that is depicted as female in the universe and during that conserving your energy and harnessing that on your spiritual pathway is the utmost goal. There is a plethora of information about Navratri and fasting in the ancient Hindu texts and I know only a tiny drop of that. So it is better if you focus on your body and yourself and fast accordingly. You can take the help of local priest and people to understand it better.

Devotion and prayer: The primary purpose of fasting during Navratri is to seek blessings and show devotion to the goddess Durga. Begin your day with prayers, visit temples, and participate in religious rituals. Eat sattvic food : During the fast, it is essential to consume sattvic (pure) foods. These include fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, nuts, and whole grains. Make sure the ingredients are fresh and not processed. Stay hydrated: Fasting can lead to dehydration. Consume plenty of water and herbal teas to stay hydrated. You can also have milk and fruit juices in moderation. Mindful cooking: When preparing meals, maintain a clean and pure environment in the kitchen. Cook with devotion and gratitude. Maintain cleanliness: Keep your surroundings, especially your altar or place of worship, clean and well-organized. Cleanliness is considered an important aspect of devotion during Navratri. Charity and service: Navratri is an excellent time to perform acts of charity and service. Contribute to the welfare of others through donations, volunteering, or any form of service you can provide. ❤❤

In actual fasting is of 2 types 1. Nirjal - no water no food nothing for 24 hours 2. Falhari- only fruit & water should be eaten But u can make changes as per your body & since Navratri is for 9 days so u cannot go with nirjal fasting, so u can eaither carry falhari fasting or anything as per your desire . The scientific reason for this fasting is, at this time of the year weather changes in India, so it's advised to eat less or to avoid eating heavy foods for 9 days that can upset our stomach & can cause fever.

In Sanskrit, fasting is called 'Vrat'. 'Vrat' actually means 'pledge' or 'vow'. So, behaviourally it means to pledge yourself or pledge to your deity to avoid anything which is making you weak, toxic or less efficient. These include avoiding over eating, or bad food, or bad company, or bad habit, or anything bad you have.... It's purpose is to strengthen your will power, detoxing you physically and mentally, and eventually strengthening your love for your God. Happy Navratri brother.🙏🙏

Fasting in hindu and hindu religion are normally 3 kinds based on the festival. 1. Dont eat onion, garlic, egg and any types of meats & nonveg for the duration of that festival. So 9-10 days for navratri (this current festival) 2. Only eat fruits, makhana during the day and a good but veg meal at night. For 9 days. 3. Some people still do strict fasting in festival. They only eat once a day and that also limited to very veg food. But main thing is nobody should eat any onion, garlic, egg, meat and any type of nonveg for the festival duration and MUST NOT bring above said thing inside the house too if you have hindu idols at home. Dont eat and/or take these things inside or outside hindu temples. Please respect this few things. Btw. Welcome in Bharat. I hope you are enjoing. Please try to eat more vegetarian food in India, bcos you will not get this back in your country. Enjoy the true flavours of Indian food. 😊😋🍲🇮🇳🙏

Fasting in Hinduism is derived from 'Vrat'. Vrat doesn't mean only to avoid food or some specific type of food. Its actual purpose is Purification. Purification of Body..Purification of Mind..Purification of Soul. Suppose if you distance yourself from using curse words but you eat 5 times a day..even then you will be observing Vrat. Rest is upon you because practicing Hinduism is very subjective. All the best and Shubh Navaratri

In India we celebrate navratri 2 times in a year. We do fasting on our own wish. Every person has their own capacity to do fasting on navratri. Some don't eat anything, some eat one meal and some eat only fruits. So it totally dependent on person wish how he/she wants to do it. Anyway is good, by fasting we feel good from inside also. During this period in India we feel so connected to the GOD. Feel very positive all the time. India is a place where we celebrate every festival together, it's a land of festival actually ❤😊

During this festival, the nine forms of Maa Durga are worshiped for nine days and afterwards, little girls under the age of 5-7 are treated with beautiful gifts on either Ashtami or Navami. This is done to please the deity and people believe, doing so results in peace and harmony in their lives. The devotees of Maa Durga observe fast for nine days during Navratri to please the Goddess. During the Navratri fast, people consume anything just 1 or 2 times, and put focus on water, dairy and fruits. While there are some who enjoy the whole meals made with buckwheat or water chestnut flour. Both ways are fine and depends on individual, which way they want to observe the fast.

Fasting does not only mean being hungry, it also means sacrifices. But the meaning of fasting is to live life with Determination and Desireless. If you look at it from the other side, you can say that it means gaining victory over your desires and senses. I have been watching you for a few days. You are a very positive person and see positivity in everything. This is also Sanatan's teachings in which it is said that there is no complaint, just live contentedly and keep working. Jai Mata Di Paul! It's great to hear that you want to fast during Navratri. I am a professional Hindu Priest, and fasting during Navratri can take different forms. Some people drink only water for nine days, while others refrain from eating non-vegetarian food for nine days. I'm also fasting, and my fast consists of consuming fruits, dry fruits, cow milk, and their products for nine days, excluding grains and salt. This type of fasting is specifically observed by those participating in Navratri worship or reading Navratri books. If you wish to fast, you can eat only vegetarian food during the day, and perhaps have fruits only. At night, you can have a pure satvik meal cooked at home, not from restaurants. The main purpose of fasting is to promote positivity and spread it around you. Please remember not to harm anyone, from humans to even the smallest creatures. Wishing you a Happy Navratri!

It's not about just food you can sacrifice any thing like shoe, slipper, clothes etc. you can also give up these Happy Navratri ❤❤

Everyone has their own way to celebrate Navratri ... Reason for avoiding shoes because usually they are made of leather and during the worship period, you avoid anything which has animal skin

In easiest way, fasting means to keep discipline and control. Either you eat once or eat nothing. Whatever you have thought to follow you dedicatedly do that. 🙏🌸🇮🇳

The core reason behind it is that during navratri human beings have to sit in a meditative state and now if we consume food and drinks it'll slow our metabolism and which in turn will cause laziness and increase sleep which will create big obstacles in meditation... Avoiding comforts and food will raise our core consciousness, this is the most scientific philosophy of Hinduism ❤❤

Jai Mata Rani! Happy Navratri!! Fasting is done by many and in their own different ways. Their purpose for fasting during this time differs too. But the most common purpose is for our Devi maa and to please and welcome her. This nine day represents nine forms of her. We fast to celebrate and worship her. The most common way of fasting is to take fruits and water all day(eating style depends on the person). Anyway today is navmi (the ninth day) I wish everyone the best❤

In this Navaratri I eat once a day ( because I'm an athlete, soon I have to participate in the World Championship; most of the people don't even eat once a day, they just take lemon juice in the Night) & I sacrifice the food in the name of Fasting for gaining the Devine Energy, That Maa Durga is so kind, She blesses Unconditionally! JAGADAMBA bless Us ✨
