You have to remove the judgement just like you stated, those are still people who are missing their kids. And more importantly, a kiddo who is missing their mom, whatever the situation is. Thoughts about single parents with no bio kids from one who has been there. Prepare yourself for zero acknowledgement/celebration of mother/father day. You will do all the work to help the child celebrate their parents, all the school projects will go to them, you'll help them get a present, card, craft, etc. And then on the day you just hope to keep it simple to help the child get through the day. Married/partnered parents I think can quietly celebrate each other, but if your single there is no one to fill that role. My first mother's day I got a total of one text from one person in my life acknowledging my role and even I had prepared myself for that it still stung a little.

I love how positive you are and how happy the children seem; I know it must not always be so easy, and we are only seeing a glimpse of your lives. I think what you have to say will help a lot of people. Happy upcoming Mother's Day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms out there!!!

I’m not a foster carer but I’m a mum with a son whose dad I separated from when he was 2. I can’t stand the man anymore for how I feel he’s treated our son but at the end of the day he’s still my sons dad so I’ve always been led by his feelings and when he wanted to see him or speak to him I’ve always arranged and pushed for that even though it’s caused arguments between us as parents. He would only see or speak to him on his time so a Saturday 10am-4pm. He even walked straight passed the restaurant we were sat in for my sons birthday without even stopping to wish him a happy birthday and my son saw him. On the Saturday when he came to collect him I asked why and his response was it’s not in my time with him. That’s one of the things I mean when I say how he’s treated him! My son is 20 now and sadly there’s no contact but I would always recommend doing what is best for our children and what they want because from their eyes it’s their mum or dad and they will always love them unconditionally.

Mother's and father's day are very weird for me. I was never in foster care, but my parents have been stellar examples of how not to parent. Unfortunately I end up with a lot of people telling me stuff like "But you have to love her, she's your mom, you only get one". Yes, I only have one, that's why it hurts even more that she hung up on me when I called from the ER. That's why it hurts my parents ignored my medical problems unless it affected them or my ability to go to school*. The ability to make a baby does not make someone a good parent. *Pain, fever, contagious illness, joints you can't move and surgeons orders need not apply
