I randomly searched for US Navy IT A School and found this video. I served over 20 years ago, joined as a RM and was in when RM and DP merged to become the IT rate. Your video is really interesting to me, learning about the "C" schools and how a contract will guarantee that or not. I was able to attend a few certification classes for different systems we were running on our ship, but we didn't have any "C" Schools at the time. We were all just "IT." I also find it interesting that after all this time, they still haven't been able to figure out how to merge the radio/IT parts of the job. In my day, Data Processors (DP, lol) did the IT stuff and RM did the radio stuff. Even in my day, two years after the merge, we had this one first class that still wore his DP rating badge on his dress uniform, because he always said the Navy would never figure out how to merge the two jobs correctly. This was really interesting to watch. Thanks for making it. Also, super funny that I searched randomly and see you graduated boot camp on Jan 10 and were a member of Div 906. I had my pass and review on Friday, Jan 9, 1998. I was in Div. 906. Small world. Stay safe out there!

Bruh, you gonna stand that watch. I had a young seaman ask what he could do to be over qualified to stand watch and while I appreciated the thought process, I had to let him know that if he got into a position where he was “over qualified” to stand watch, he would have MUCH bigger problems.

My youngest son is there for IT/AFT for A&C school. He got there Feb 17th classed up March 9th graduates end of this month. He signed up for 6 he is there till Dec. He is loving it there for school. His older brother does regular IT he is currently on his 3rd deployment he loves IT he has been in almost 3.5 yrs he re enlisted 6 mths ago. Super proud Navy Mom here! ⚓💙💙

Biggest thing with this rate is the TS/SCI. Easy way to get into many contractor and federal jobs. Its too bad they yanked certs out of A-school, but you can easily get those on your own. Discounts on the vouchers can be had if you at some point obtained a university email. Specialize in a set of certs like security+ and CISSP, don't just grab random ones for no particular reason. It can be difficult to convince your CoC to send you to get certifications, especially if you don't pressure them or prove you are worth the tax dollars.

Wow things really changed over the years. When I was in over thirty years ago I was a RM, and it sounds like they combined IT with RM, which sounds pretty cool because rates worked together anyway. This was a good video update on how it has changed since I was in.

What are the class hours and how much do you study for a day? Nuke school is literally 14-16 hours a day between class and study hours. It can't be that bad.
