The Combat Action Ribbon was originally awarded in 1969 but is retroactive to the Second World War. The Coast Guard Combat Action Ribbon was authorized in July 2008. It is awarded to members of the Coast Guard who have participated in ground or maritime combat. Prior to 2008 Guard received the Navy and Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon. I was there to on the Wabash I still remember going to general quarters about 2 in the morning due to incoming enemy aircraft and yes only got a MUC, AFEM and sea service

Question: if ships are involved in the same mission as other ships, can they receive the same award. USS Wabash was the Communications hub for all ships operating in the Persain gulf during operation Praying Mantis. no one wants to acknowledge our presence that we were there but we sit sat in the mouth of the gulf for a month. they recieved combat action ribbon and Joint Merit. Commendation award. and also the Armed forces Expeditionary Medal now that one we recieved.
