Megyn Kelly is joined by retired Navy SEAL Jason Redman, best-selling author and motivational speaker, to talk about overcoming obstacles to become a Navy SEAL, why America is in a pandemic of the "victim mindset," his lowest moment in the military and using the opportunity to embrace a second chance, the "well executed ambush" in Iraq that almost cost him his life, the challenging recovery process due to his injuries, what led him to write his "sign on the door" poster on his hospital room door, how the sign has inspired so many others, the power of resilience, our military's embrace of individualism today at the expense of teamwork, growing up, marriage and fatherhood, his leadership work today, and more.

JASON. From a fellow Veteran, US Army, Surgeon... You are an inspiration and such a positive, refreshing example of the opposite of the cult of "victimhood" so pervasive in our culture today. God bless you, your wife, family. So pleased my wife and I tuned in to see you today on Memorial Day. Thank you Megyn for having such a fantastic guest on this special day to honor our veterans, especially those who suffered setbacks like Jason, and those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms.

Megyn, please look for a KZfaq podcast featuring an interview with Jason and Jessica Silva. Jason recently retired after 27 years as a Navy SEAL. Amazingly, Jason and Jessica were married for his entire career. The two of them have an amazing story to tell. Jason was a friend of both of my sons, the youngest of which just retired as an Army Major.

Thank you Megyn, so much, for this opportunity on Memorial Day. I am so grateful for Mr. Redman and all of those who have made the same committment to our country. I feel thankful to so many families who are going forward without those who were so brave and so loved. I look forward to reading this book, I have such awe at the resilience of you courageous men, Mr. Redman. God bless you and yours always! What uncommon men our Navy Seals are, I hope the Navy can continue to find those who have these convictions and a love of country. I love the USA and pray for all of those willing to stand for decency, kindness and excellence in our country. Much love on this Memorial Day to all of those who have served, especially today to those who are missing a family member who gave everything to protect and defend the USA!!!

I was so moved by this special podcast. It’s almost September and I’ve been a widow of 9 years. My late husband died a wrongful death as a disabled veteran. He was a most patriotic American. He would be embarrassed and ashamed to see what is happening to our country from a buffoon of a president to the victim mentality of so many. God bless you, Megyn and your extraordinary, humble and America loving guest.

Great interview. Jay, great attitude, very inspirational. Mindset is everything. From a Ret Canadian medic....and you don't look too bad...my wife entered the room and paused to listen. She looked at me and asked "OMG what happened" Told her joking you were a US Navy Seal and came in 3rd in a shovel fight ( wonder where that comes from). ..."My god, where was his gun". She continued to watch the whole show and heard your story. You captivated her attention, and admiration and that says a lot. Your wife is awesome for being there!! Thank you!

Growing up, some of my friends' fathers were veterans of WW2 or Korea, plus my own family had been through testing times. As a teenager inhighschool, some of my peers would big-note themselves claiming how they would act in certain situations. This led me to my understanding that "if you haven't been through difficult times (I now add "or been trained for them"), when things do get difficult, it is unlikely that you will react as you think you will; in fact it is probable that you will act badly. I like Jason's observations of our societal encouragement of individuals' avoidance of "hardship" and parallelling this with our "pandemic of victimhood" (great phrase)
@LL-wc4wn

There is a difference between genuine victims and victomhood. Also, there are plenty of people who go through hard experiences and are not victims and then go around saying they are tougher than others because they "overcame it".

For the people that say kneeling for the national anthem and turning your back on the American flag is not a big deal or its only about injustice.. this man and other's just like him are the reason why it infuriates real Americans and vets like me when you decide to disrespect the sacrifice of these brave men and women. You are not disrespecting a flag or country but YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY disrespecting those who have served like him and his comrades because without him there is no flag or country at least not the country that gives you everything yet you claim to hate.. Thank you so much for this episode, Megyn! I am partially paralyzed and just came out of a health scare that necessitated I spend time in a rehab hospital for a couple of weeks. I am a single mom to 2 amazing daughters (my oldest is currently serving in the Air Force). I am still going to physical & occupational therapy a few times a week, and that sign that he wrote is AMAZING!! I had not heard his story before, but what an inspirational guy! I am thinking of asking my therapists if I can make a copy of the sign for the gym. There are people of all ages and abilities that go to this tiny rehab facility south of Houston. And that is a message we could all use! Thanks to Jason for his service and for showing us all what true resilience really looks like! And thank you, for bringing us stories like these!!!! 💕

Evil exists. It would be nice if it didn't. However, it does. Until the day comes someday when all is peace, only warriors, with a warrior mentality and the ability to remain pure of heart based on a set of values while at the same time defending the weak up to the point of killing the evil, we will need them. Pretending there is no evil inside one's own philosophical bubble is intellectually weak and dishonest. Thank goodness for guys like Jason and Jocko. Thanks for everything you do and everything you've done.
