The Virginia Cavaliers fell to Navy, 66-58 in their season opener. The Cavaliers shot 41.2% from the field and only 25% from behind the 3-point line. Jayden Gardner led the Cavaliers with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kihei Clark added 12 points on the night.

Lots to work on. But there's good signs as well. The D played a lot better in the second half, Beekman did decent with 8/5/6, Gardner was a beast at times, and Kihei's reworked shot was definitely quicker and better. He scored 12 and his assist numbers would have been a lot higher if they'd been able to knock down open looks off his dishes. Nevertheless, there's a lot to work on, and it's gonna take a while to get this brand new team solidified. So be patient, folks, and let's see how they respond. It's just one game, and hats off to Navy here. They played their guts out and moved the ball really well, scoring at will for the entire first half.

Difficult to recognize this UVA team. Two transfers are in the rotation. Can someone tell me which UVA players left the team that has left them with only 10 scholarship players? Unfortunate for sure. Could be a very long season for UVA with no real weapons coming off the bench who can impact the game. Beekman is very good and he will only get better. Shedrick has potential but can he elevate his game?

UVa has one offensive player: Gardner. Who else is there? No one right now. At least 2 other players have to show that they can create shots and score in close ACC games. Franklin had a horrible game shooting the ball. I have a theory: never take a transfer from Indiana, under any condition. And under any Indiana coach. They emphasize team basketball there, but they don't prepare their players for the NBA. Can anyone tell me why Milic, Jr. did not play? Is he being redshirted?

Virginia's big men are 7'0 tall - its unacceptable to give up that many offensive boards to second chance points in a game. They weren't matching Navy's physicality and it lost them the game.

Navy consistently outrebounded taller teams last year, including Georgetown, nothing to be ashamed of.

@@timothymiller1783 and I feel like that’s due to their conditioning. They’re literally required to do that so they’re always going to be working hard when you play them.

@Jeff Louis Last year is in the past. Going on them now its not FSU to carry the ACC, Too early. Duke just beat a top 10 team by the way.
