I've been learning kathak since the age of 3 and I'm just trying to follow your footsteps in this field. Just have 1 query. You performed 'Ram Vandana' in this so I wanted to know the motive of perfoming that. Usually, in kathak, Saraswati Vandana or Ganesh Vandana is performed. So why did you choose Ram Vandana? And, I also have to perform kathak in a competition & wanted to know whether I should perform Ram Vandana or some other Vandana. Thanks😊

Osheen Singh Saraswati, Ganesh and Shiva are the common ones but a Vandana can be performed to any deity. In fact it can even be performed to one of the 5 elements, or other more abstract themes. Alhough Ram bhajan can be performed at any time I like performing this especially around the time of Diwali to represent Ram's return to Ayodhya. And it is a piece i enjoy because the lyrics are so rich in their imagery, perfect for dance. For the competition pick any Vandana you like that best shows your variety and skill as a performer. All the best! :)

Their is no tarana. After vandana she does Pure Teentaal (16 beats Taal). The music is called 'Lehra' / 'Theka' (of particular taal). Tarana includes bols like TaDare Dani, Ode Tana, Dhim ta nana, etc

Yes, unfortunately I had to dub it later as the foot mics in the auditorium did not work and we could not capture the sound live. I was very disappointed about that. But just so you know, I did the dubbing myself. It's my own foot sound, not someone else's :)
