I know people thinkJordan was closer to 6'4, and Magic was closer to Howard Stern's 6'5 (go see for yourself when Johnson had his own show interviewing Stern), but I doubt that Larry Bird was only 6'9. Bird and Magic are almost always listed as both being 6'9, and Magic certainly projected as being a legit 6'9 on the court (but I guess not so much off of it), but this picture alone has Bird towering over Magic. Bird also looked like he was as tall as McHale who's generally listed as 6'10, and pretty darn close to Parish's 7'1 at times; though Parish is either listed as 7'0 or 7'1 through the years. Bird is like Durant, + 6'10.

True Story: There are two dudes I’ve noticed who turn you into a Borderline Groupie... 1.) Michael Jordan and 2.) Money Mayweather. When speaking on most other athletes or entertainers, there’s not much emotion involved. But something about those two brings out the Fanatic in you- which would be less weird and hypocritical if you didn’t literally attack the fans and fan bases of other entertainers so often. Rewatch your videos where you speak about those two and notice the contrast from other vids. Your whole tone changes... Sometimes it’s subtle; other times, not so e.

You're not qualified to engineer what or how I state anything, and if you're frustrated, you should put yourself on timeout lol. Thanks for viewing the video.

I love your vids btw! So much better than a ton of the other NBA crap on KZfaq. I agree with your assessment on Mullin's defense, probably not far off from how one would summarize Bird's defense; though Bird - while not a great defender - was certainly better than Mullin in his own end. I think what's not as widely embraced, and for good reasons, was that Carmelo Anthony "could" at times, be a + defender. I say this, knowing full well that he almost never played even average defense. He shouldn't get any defensive credit whatsoever. But, there were games, when I wondered why the hell doesn't he play like that more often, because periodically in years past, he could actually lock guys up at key times. He reminded me a bit of Tracy McGrady. And with McGrady, if you asked me who was a better defensive player, he or Kobe, I'd snap call McGrady. Kobe was named 12 times to the 1st or 2nd All Defensive squads, yet McGrady, never made a single 1st or 2nd All Defensive team. Kobe was winning Gold Gloves with his bat! He was never a "great" defensive player, good for a period, yes, but "great", I doubt that very much. Conversely, McGrady seemed lackadaisical in his own end, but was actually very good. I wouldn't put Anthony on McGrady's level, because McGrady brought it (relatively) consistently, but it was there even if he never truly (and maddingly) unlocked that side of his game. I'm not a George Karl fan, but that specific part of Anthony's game must have drove him batty.
@emmapeel385 жыл бұрын
On another note, it's probably a pretty big push on Mullin and Carmelo. Anthony in college and on the Olympic stage, brought out the best in him, on the biggest stages, where had he played like that guy throughout his career, we'd be talking about him on a completely different level. And with Mullin, while people can go on about Reggie Miller and Ray Allen all day long as being 2 of the greatest 5 shooters ever, I'd take Mullin over either one of them. Having a great shooter like that in a matchup vs 2012 team would be huge; same with Bird obviously and Stockton in particular. Mullin style of play might even be greater in the current NBA.

emmapeel38 Bird not a great defender??? Lol splain that please.... Bird was a tenacious defender and made clutch defensive plays regularly!
@emmapeel385 жыл бұрын
I would agree that he made clutch defensive plays regularly, but spare me with the tenacious bit. He was a solid/above average team defender, average 1-on-1 defensively, and with that, struggled defensively vs more athletic players. I love Bird, but he wasn’t a defensive ACE either.
@belikemike23d745 жыл бұрын
emmapeel38 Yea I'll give you that I guess... he wasn't an "Ace" defender especially 1 on 1 vs superior athletes, but defense is a team thing... and we all know that Bird's Celtics were a great defensive team. It's not like he was a liability on defense like Steph Curry... I get what your saying but I still think of Bird as an elite defender.
@emmapeel385 жыл бұрын
I had Jordan, Russell, and begrudgingly, LeBron as my Top 3 All Time up until recently. I keep wanting to put Bird in the Top 3, and at this point, I don't care anymore, and have put Bird back in my Top 3; he ALWAYS should have been in there. Bird was a winner, the most clutch player I've ever seen, and I don't think modern analytics support enough of everything that was good/great/excellent about the man on the court. I watch LeBron pile up the stats like he's playing in the 1961-1962 season, and it doesn't sit right with me, because I know full well that Bird did FAR more without the bloated stats, to advance the offense like no one else; including Magic. I will fully agree that Bird had the ability - when it was dire - to come up with huge defensive plays; an uncanny ability that was on a level higher than even elite defensive player came up. But on those teams, from start to finish of every game, Dennis Johnson was the Ace defender, and McHale was equally great, and frankly, might be the greatest defensive player in tight with his wingspan, positioning, footwork, timing, etc. There are players like Kobe in particular, who's made 12 1st and 2nd All Defensive squads, and he's an incredibly overrated defensive player. LeBron by comparison, has better defensive tools, and if he was elite, it was on the right team (the HEAT), and only for a few years. His defensive reputation is incredibly overblown. Just being able to make blocks from behind here and there, on nationally televised games, doesn't fool me into what he's not doing most of the other times. I happen to think that Bird never had that inflated defensive reputation, which is good in a way, he was a more deceptive and understated defender. Compared to the other SF's back in the day, like Alex English, Kelly Tripuka, KiKi Vandeweghe, Mark Aguirre, etc, he was a superior defender. Defense was the weakest part of Bird's game though, compared to everything else he was able to do at an elite level. But again, I don't think he was ever a "weak" defensive player, nor "bad", but certainly not elite over a sustained period of a game; just key moments. I'll also agree that he's not a weak link within their defensive schemes.

They brainwash the younger generations to believe all this non sense... always trying to push "The Next Michael Jordan" the new GOAT... they have to do this to keep raking in the billions of dollars they do... they literally realized after The 80s and 90s, after Jordan retired, that they were losing viewers and money. So to fix this they literally changed the rules making it easier for the next generation of super stars to score and accumulate stats in every way. People that know their NBA history, and know the truth behind NBA business, they know that this is a joke... they know how to brainwash the next generations to keep the brand growing... the OG Dream Team was the best team ever assembled and always will be.
