@@c4choze Nah, was great - exactly what he used to do with the Celtics. Difference was that Malone wasn't ready for it like DJ, Parish and McHale always were. The Celtics guys were used to the insanity of Bird passes - the Dream Team had to get there (except Magic, who was always ready for 'em).

For the 7 years he played after hurting his back in 85, Bird averaged 25/9/7 on 49.6% FG, 39.5% 3 pt %, and 91% FT. That’s almost averaging 50/40/90 over 7 years with a bad back and 2 junk Achilles

Bird was a shadow of himself at this point - he had finished playing for good a few months before - but even while severely limited by his bad back he still fit right into the Dream Team. People forget how good Bird and Magic were at their peaks - special days and great memories.

Yes they were rivals Indiana vs Michigan. The Game was on National T.V. I was watching. The Main Man for Michigan was actually Greg Kelser, but Magic Stole the Show and became the Main Man. Bird and Magic came into the League and the 3 Main Attractions were Dr J, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Great Times!

In one of the games in Portland that they played to qualify for the Olympics, one of the refs asked Bird and the coach if Bird might come into the game, if only for a few minutes, so that he could tell his children/grandchildren that he'd refereed a game in which Bird had played. Bird did.
