That was a great series. I was not the biggest Boston fan but, Bird was a beast. The Celtics overall had the better team. Props to Atlanta. Nique’ gave his all!!!!

Easily one of the greatest playoff games and Gm.#7's in NBA history and, arguably THE greatest 4th quarter of any playoff games in NBA history! This game was electric from the beginning-tip until the final buzzer! It had all the necessary ingredients: raucous crowd, great players, close game with constant ties/lead changes, immense pressure, and clutch, big shot-making by two HOFers! A game that will live-on in perpetuity in the minds of all dedicated NBA fans!

This was Wilkins greatest chance to get to a finals. People only remember him as a dunker and scorer, but from the mid to late 80's, he was the best player on some good playoff contending Atlanta Hawks teams. Unfortunately, at that time they had to deal with Bird's Celtics, Isiah's Pistons, Brad Daugherty and Mark Price's Cavs, and this young up and coming team from Chicago led by that young Jordan guy. Not even to mention Ewing's Knicks, Barkley's 76ers and Reggie Miller's Pacers who were improving every year at that time as well.

Facts and you forgot to mention the Milwaukee bucks team who was knocking on the door as well the east was just hard-nosed gritty yet fun to watch and your right I was just chatting with my pops about this series a few weeks back saying this was his chance to get to the finals and play those Lakers but back then we all knew if it's a game 7 in Boston it ain't gonna happen they didnt close out in game 6 and it was down hill but this game 7 duel was the best ever to date by two great players bird and nique that forth qtr was awesome
@Riles3152Ай бұрын
@@29mailliw Yo I forgot about Milwaukee with Moncrief, Terry Cummings and Ricky Pierce! Yea they were right there in the mix too! The East was crazy loaded in the mid to late 80's.

Specifically, Game 6 of this series was Wilkins' missed chance. Up 3-2 with a home game vs. Boston.

Crazy part was, I think Bird scored most of his points in the second half. He really didn't get going until mid 3rd quarter
@cindyknudson27153 күн бұрын
He scored 12 in the first half and 20 in the 4th quarter. 34 total. Bird's Achilles were giving him trouble and, as the next day's paper said, bronchial pneumonia. But he got'er done in the clutch. 😁 ☘️ Legend

An Open Court episode (with "Human Highlight Film" Dominique as one of panelists) shared the Hawks led 3-2 but lost in Atlanta to close it out. In the middle of g7, 'Nique said Kevin Willis did a gesture that woke up Larry Bird that led to 4q duel. The 80s, Dominique-led Hawks is another case of Playoff favorites and colorful team of that period that failed to get it done. They're just happy to be there, but not serious enough to be Title-seekers. It didn't help 'Nique was snubbed in the 50th Anniversary Team (1996), whom he quipped as "a total disrespect." He was there in the 75th Team (2021), but it feels like too little, too late.

Bird thought Dominique should have been included in the 50th too.

Nique averaged averaged 30.7 that year, 31.2 in the playoffs.
@chriswahl41392 ай бұрын
This would be the last decent shot the Nique Hawks would have as after this they brought in Moses Malone and Reggie Theus thinking it would get them over the hunp, but got upset by the Bucks and then missed the playoffs and Fratello left. After that game 5 win, Fratello's playoff record the rest of the way was 4-25
