I REMEMBER watching this very special when I was a little kid! This was a simpler time, when it was quite normal to have network stars work out of their element and do P.R. for the network (Even WWE did it back in the day!). Knowing how to sing wasn't necessary as only a select few had a "Live" Mic. Still, you see a LOT of BIG names in this group, many who later became A-list stars (I.e. George Clooney), some who are no longer with us and some who are still working on the small screen to this very day.

You can tell how bad the continuity was because Kari Michaelsen keeps moving around. When Nell sings, Kari is behind her, but when Joey sings, she's behind him just like she was during the tracking shot leading into it.

Diego Canale, it was good to see George Peppard, Don Johnson, Philip Michael Thomas, David Hasslehoff, and Fred Dryer all in one room. "The A-Team", "Miami Vice", "Knight Rider" and "Hunter" were four of my favorite NBC TV prime time shows in the 1980's. I have all the seasons of "The A-Team", the complete box set of "Miami Vice", all the seasons of "Knight Rider" and the first season of "Hunter" on DVD. One day I'm going to get the complete series of "Hunter" on DVD. VEI, a company in Canada just released "Hunter" The Complete Series DVD Set on April 29, 2022.

But unfortunately... not for Saturday Night Live though, since the 11th season for 1985-86 season suddenly struggled a bit for Lorne's comeback, and it ended up premiering live too late, which is November 9th rather than debuting it in September or October as usual.

The only other network to do something similar was WB in their early years when the WB dance as 'Dubba Dubba Dubba WBEEEEEEEE!' It was cheesy but all the stars of each show used to do it as promos on their night of programs and when KidsWB launched, many of the shows that rated well with kids had their stars doing the bumpers for the cartoons---Hey It's The Wayans Brothers, now back to the cartoons on Kids WB! If it was Wednesday, they had one stating--Enjoy the cartoons, come back tonight to see us, The Wayans Brothers!

True, stuff like this was considered corny from the very beginning, but at least these people expressed joy through song and united for a purpose (even if that purpose was incredibly stupid like promoting a network). Today, it seems like people have forgotten how to laugh and how to sing with emotion. A thing like you see here would never work in today's world, people are just in a different place now. It's sad.

After all those years of watching the very pixelated copy that's been on the net for nearly two decades, you can see the odd editing that was done. Are Howard Morton and Nell even there after Nell's solo? The Gimme A Break people seem to float around the most. Had a friend who always pointed out what sounds like Rue McClanahan getting a solo while Don Johnson is shown.
@Attmay4 жыл бұрын
I've wondered whether the shows were sorted by the night they were on. The two Sunday sitcoms were obviously grouped together if Ricky Schroder and Joel Higgins are right behind George Gaynes and Susie Garrett at 1:43, yet the *Punky Brewster* kids were next to the *Cosby Show* kids while nobody from any Friday night shows is in the vicinity; Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnson are so closely framed at 1:54 that they crowd out Edward James Olmos!

If you're under 35, be glad you missed out on this hocum. Nell Carter, the voice of the network-- sang the lead in quite well, but the cast show singing was corny. While paid very well, network stars were obligated to promote their respective networks at the time. I still remember the station ID promos when I was 10 and 11 back in '84-85. Great shows...but the cheese factor was 110%. This was all pre-internet, so you had to tune in to see celebrities, and all stations did fall promos to insure ratings. ABC once did their fall promo (this was around '82), as a Love Boat lead-in episode with Love Boat cast members remaining in character and chancing upon guest-stars/cast members from Hotel, Dynasty, and other new shows of the season...sigh. Still, there's no denying the great talent in television then, which is non existent -except for PBS and syndicated network shows from 2000's on back- these days.👍🏽💯🤔
