Severe flooding across South Florida has triggered at least one water rescue, damaged homes, stalled cars, prompted response from officials, canceled classes and even stranded cats in trees on Thursday after storms soaked the region in up to 20 inches of water. And the rain isn't done yet.
A flood watch remains in effect for all of South Florida into Friday. But it won't take much to trigger further warnings.

It's so awful. Either, people don't know better or they simply don't care. My neighbors and I want to get "no wake zone" signs for big storms. We say it as a joke, but it's not.

No wonder insurance rates are so high? Paving over swamps isn’t a great idea.

There's no place for the water to go in these areas bro. The elevation is like 3 feet, the water table is right under the grass.

The mansion district never gets impacted. The poor are pushed into flood zones by being out priced by nicer neighborhoods.

I am certain most of these are unincorporated areas - hence no sever system nor adequate drainage!

Climate crisis resilience needs to include elevated evacuation routes (& include occasional islands for gas stations, ideally with helipads for emergency medical evacs)!

My car floated once! During, what they called it... A storm, with no name and Thank God for the fire department, i didn't go onto a canal, in the, Doral area, near the MIA/ Airport. It took me 4 hours to get home from work and it used to only take me 20 minutes and I even got out of the car, at an intersection on Doral Avenue and helped out to direct the traffic, for an hour, with two, other drivers. Because, it was so jammed and none of us could moved. Afterwards and just a few blocks through my neighborhood; it's when I almost, got pushed by the force of the water... It was horrible and when I made it home safe and opened the door, a river of water came out of it. Had to be professionally cleaned and fuses replaced..🙄

Stop building on the Florida Everglades. The beautiful Everglades is a natural sponge that absorbs water when we have floods. Unfortunately the republicans and democrats here in FL have sold us out to large corporate builders who have disenfranchised our fellow FLORIDA natives and citizens. Praying for my Dade fam and everyone there there fr 🙏

Scientists have been warning that the ocean water is rising fast for at least the past decade, so it's not like you haven't been warned. All land in low lying areas such as the Southern USA that borders an ocean are going to have worse and worse weather as the next few decades tick by.
