Several years ago a man tried that in the paint department of our local Home Depot. Fortunately, the fire was put out before it spread. Idiot didn't have to set any fire to cover his shoplifting. My sister worked at a Home Depot for a few months. She said it is ridiculous how easy it was to walk out with tools. Seems Home Depot has a policy forbidding employees from confronting anyone suspected of shoplifting. Just get a description and car tag number if possible, then they will turn all that over along with any video surveillance footage to authorities. If the authorities want to spend time and resources tracking the shoplifter down than fine, if not they just write it off and pass the cost down to customers.

This Fire is truly the fault of the Politicians and the DA and Judges that have tied the hands of law enforcement and letting criminals out with short sentences, early parole or release, or probation, if they have even been arrested. Crime has run rampant and they have allow and supported it. Do away with qualified immunity for the DA Judges, Parole boards and Politicians that make bad laws or shallow sentences. Oh my god, you are talking tens of millions of dollars. Let's not forget that the average Home Depot makes over $49 million per year. I used to work at a really busy one several years back. How long will it take them to rebuild, if they decide to? One year? 2 years? The loss in revenue alone will put this guy away for decades. The fact that he put people's lives in danger, over a decade and then there is the financial cost to the employees themselves; due to the fact that they are no longer employed by the company -they will either have to transfer to new stores or try to find a job elsewhere which will cost them more time and more money. This guy is a total a******.

Man... think of the plethora of toxic chemicals filling a big box Home Depot store... tons of paints, thinners, varnishes, cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers... not to mention normally safe products that would become toxic when burned... carpet and other flooring, treated lumber, all kinds of products made from plastics and who knows what else... all filling the air at once and being spread for miles around for all to breathe. I'd be curious if the incidence of cancer and other diseases went up in the area after this fire.

Dude, please go easy on San Jose's bravest. The problem is when a place like that catches fire it's already pretty much a lost cause, because of how heavy the fuel load is. Now granted I'm not with my city's fire department, but I can figure that that place had a heavy fuel load. May our lord Jesus be thanked on bended knee that there was no loss of life, human in the case of home Depot, and feline or canine or otherwise in the nearby animal hospital.
