At the end of June I bikepacked Scotlands North Coast 500 route by ebike. Here along with the best of my road footage I talk about lessons and tips for cycling the NC500 including
- single track roads
- avoiding the worst traffic
- getting food & drink
- wild camping and camping along the NC500
- keeping that ebike battery charged
- what sort of clothes and campaign gear you'll need
The navigation map I used is available at cycle.travel/m... - at the end of the video I spend a couple of minutes talking through each day of this and highlighting where I camped
These 5-6 days were part of a month long cycle tour around the Scottish Islands and Highlands - you'll find my day by day diaries from that tour at • Scotland by ebike - 29...
I'm also on Insta at / ebiketouringlife where I post live updates as I tour

Thank you for posting your experience . Your cycle camping has evolved similar to mine . It's definitely a tent as hammock in Highlands and Islands is pretty useless. Midge net a must , I have a head one and a body one :) I do same with clothes and sleeping bag and liner . I have light waterproofs top and bottom . All needed here in Scotland to :)

Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, I've got a lot of useful information out of them. I prefer your 'talkover' style to other cycle touring videos where people set up a camera, ride past, then go back and collect it - that must be so exhausting and make for a less enjoyable ride. I hope your channel grows and you keep going.

Thanks for that feedback it’s very much appreciated. I do have 3 short sequences I shot where I did just that set up a camera and go back & cycle past and it’s very time consuming and it is indeed a distraction from the cycling. I’m pretty happy with the swivel mount setup I have now (but only thought of after this Scottish tour) as I can just flip the camera from road to me without even stopping.

@@Ebiketouringlife Yea, that seems to work well and I've looked at it for myself. I had been using a small mount when doing some videos on a trip to Thailand and Australia on my Brompton but it kept slipping forward to have very nice shots of the road but nothing else.

Great series, thanks for posting these! Do you think using your e-bike with the Bosch batteries and fast chargers is what make this possible? I'm thinking of doing a much slower journey on an e-bike going for roughly 50 miles per day but my charger takes 6 hours to charge which I can't see possible charging at cafés, pubs etc Even been looking at solar charging with battery bank on a trailer is possible in summer.

Yes it would be hard to do the way I did with it taking 6 hours for a full charge, I think with the fast charger its a bit over 2 hours and I get to 80% in about 90 minutes. Solar charging only really seems practical if you have a trailer with the whole roof as a panel and are somewhere sunny so you can charge while cycling

I agree. Real cycling means a cast iron penny farthing with solid rubber tyres. Anything more modern is ‘not cycling’ and perhaps even cheating!

@@Ebiketouringlifeslobs bikes its a motorised vehicle get yourself a moped. So you think it’s progress 🤣all it will make is kids even lazier and fatter you’ll get more exercise staying at home on the sofa scratching your arse. When I meet people ( I won’t say cyclists because they are not ) they always make an excuse oh it’s my knees or it’s my back it’s as if they know they are cheating 🤣and don’t get me started on the deregulated lunatics on the trails the quicker they are banned the better. Have a watch of the video of the 90 year old retired vicar who rode the length of Britain under his own power and be rightfully ashamed
