St. John went early almost every time

I thought my audio was out of sync and delayed. It’s just Iowa jumping the whistle!

I just watched Dake’s match against Molinaro, and now this one. I don’t agree with any implication that St John is stalling. Dake is simply a sledge hammer on top. I’m a huge Penn State fan, but Kyle Dake is the best college wrestler that I’ve ever seen. No disrespect intended to the many Nittany Lions, like DT, Nolf, Zain, etc., who did so well.

The whole Iowa style gets annoying. St. John was clearly jumping the whistle the whole match. But worse is the patented push, push, no shot, someone yells "stalling!" Iowa "offense."

St John put an awful lot of hands on Dake's face in that match. Dake is usually good and quick to return the favor whenever opponents do this to him, but it really looked to me like Dake after a point was thinking, "Jesus christ, does this guy have a game plan other than hand-fighting with my face. I give Dake props for keeping his head clear under those conditions, because the ref should have told St John to knock it off much sooner.

I hate the stalling call. Particularly against a good counter wrestler like Dake it actually seems to create passivity in the opponent. Dake has the lead and he's not going to be reckless. St. John doesn't shoot because he can't find an opening and doesn't want to be countered. So instead he steps forward and pushes against Dake without actually doing anything in an effort to induce a stalling call. But if the stalling call didn't exist he would have had to commit. A bit of an irony.

I don't really like Dake but Gahhh damn I was glad he won because St.John was wrestling dirty as shit and I don't respect that. Dake should have gotten a lot of points for St.John jumping the whistle. He NEVER waited on the whistle. Red called him out a lot but never gave an actual point. Yet gave St.John a point because Dake was stalling and even though he does in a lot of his matches, he was the only one that did anything this match. I know Dake is awesome and can make great wrestlers look bad but fuck, St.John looked aweful. Really made you wander how he got to the NCAA finals. The only point he had shouldn't have been given and Dake should have had about 6 extra points for every time after the refs 2 warnings for St.John jumping the whistle.

St. John is not a staller! Coming from a HUGE Dake fan, St. John spent the entirety of the first period trying to get up, and he just wasnt as dominant on top the second period as Dake was in the first. That's why Dake got tired at the end... with all the lifts. But they'll have a good match up next year, but i predict Dake on top with all the extra experience he's gotten this year... training with olympians and all.

I counted that Dake had four shots in the match (three of which were in the second and third periods) and St. John had six shots in the match. Dake converted a takedown in one of his four shots, and St. John couldn't penetrate Dake's defense. I disagree with any fans argument of stalling.

So do you have the David Taylor match by chance?

St. John is more of a counter wrestler. Once he fell behind he didn't have any means to score. His offense was just pushing at that point. When you have a counter wrestler going against a good defensive wrestler who is looking to counter with the lead, you get inactivity. It was a relatively easy match for Dake.

Bruh how did dake manage to take him down at the start with the sloppy elbow pass? He just goes with it and finishes even when it doesn't look clean. That's what it takes to be a national champion

dake is just wrestling smart, you heard of alex cisneros? he didnt "stall" in his match at the california state finals when he was up three to zero. with 12 seconds left he got into a tie up and got thrown for 5 and lost 5-3

Down 4-0 in the 3rd period ( and it might have been much worse but for some barely missed takedowns by Dake) and all St. John could manage was a barage of cheap shots to the head. Now exactly why were the Iowa fans so badly behaved?
