We caught up with some students and alumni of NC A&T and asked them their thoughts and feelings on the athletic department's impending move from the MEAC to The Big South.

Being in Nashville I can assure you that the move won't kill the culture. TSU still has one of the best bands and everyone looks forward to Southern Hertiage classic. There other factors as to why this may be good for the institution. Your team will at least have the opportunity to compete for a championship with the rest of fcs.

@@blablablasquadrandomconver8006 ....when was the last time TS won FCS playoff game in football? I know HBCUS...I'm talking about sports. What u dont understand, white legislators in NC been trying for years to get rid or merge HBCUS to white schools. When i was in school...UNCG merging with A&T was the strong the rumor. UNCG changed their colors from white and green to a very dark blue and gold...hmm. The schools are right down the street from each other. The Big South has schools like Radford and Campbell, Monmouth university?... We moving to the worst FCS conference. They lost three teams...they hit the jackpot when A&T joined....we will give them more recognition than they will for us. We are putting them on the map. And of course all this started due with the white AD....

The Big South needed A&T and not the other way around. They have to add more schools because of all the departures. 2 more schools will be gone in 2 years because their new conferences will have football then. A&T left one sinking ship and went to another sinking ship.

Marcus 1965 Better comp how? Yeah like having to play in a true subdivision playoff in North Dakota in December or January...with no traveling fans...see how long that last and goodbye to Black National Championships! It will be a totally different vibe @ home and away games for sure which will effect revenue. How will playing the likes of Liberty, Longwood, Radford be better than the Draw of ANY MEAC school? Yeah Hampton is there and that will be both schools biggest games monetarily. Even lowly Howard is a better draw than Radford🙄 Hampton’s first full year in the Big South landed them dead last and 1-5 in conference. Good thing they didn’t totally forget they were an HBCU and had familiar HBCU teams on the schedule to get some wins. It will effect recruiting too. Many players are from rival cities in the MEAC. Having to go play games in LYNCHburg at conservative Liberty U. Bring the Band but leave the Golden Delight @ home because the booty shakin won’t be tolerated by 25,000 Neo Conservatives 😂 Better believe this is helping the Big South more than it’s somehow helping A&T. They’re getting a a legit Subdivision Powerhouse in Football. But what happens when Football season is over? Will the Big South offer the same excitement such as the CIAA and MEAC come Basketball Tournament time? Highly doubtful, this is what the fans are saying by culture. The “Better Comp” comment is a typical racist comment. Supposedly since the MEAC is an HBCU it’s somehow lessor competition, and the “”white” conferences are better. Typical Uncle Rukus thinking and reasoning. Will Central remain on the schedule for monetary purposes and keep the Rivalry alive at least in spirit if not for actually needing to beat them for the Conference Title or will they totally divest themselves of the MEAC? We’ll know when, and or if they renew the contract with the BS. I’m sure there’s a hefty early exit penalty fee.

I have no problem with HBCU's . I enjoy the Celebration bowl every year. Texas Southern University is my school. What better way for A&T to show they can be competitive. The Celebration bowl was only formed because HBCU'S were rarely getting past the first round of the playoffs. I've said Texas Southern should have moved to the Southland conference... my opinion...

I completely disagree with the alumni. It has not hurt TnSU. I really think many of us should have moved to a mixed conference in football years ago. They're not moving by themselves. From a band and football standpoint, MEAC bands and fans aren't going to all the games anyway. And honestly all of us HBCUs have half our games each year where attendance is kind of weak or at least a quarter of games, so not playing another HBCU won't make much of a difference anyway. They will still have non-conference games and classics. Hopefully, this can be a stepping stone to a better conference down the line.

It's actually worked out pretty well. They have more money coming in, plus their football was a lot better than it used to be for several years. Staying in the MEAC doesn't seem to be helping them NCAT any. Two conferences have dominated these sports especially in FCS football, so they would be moving to a conference that hasn't won much anyway
@sirs.7464 жыл бұрын
I understand the move. It’s gets more National attention. Let’s say NCAT continues to dominate in football and compete with NDSU for FCS championships. More exposure to those who didn’t know about HBCU’s. Tnsu, Hampton, now NCAT, just means SWAC and MEAC need to reconsider their structure. Coming from a SU Jag.

Repost: Here you have the most popular and largest state HBCU, with enrollment increasing every year, and multiple trips to the nationally televised celebration bowl $$$ leaving the MEAC. So much for the full hbcu experience, whenever we are successful in an area they find a way to takeover what we have. Starting with an AD who does who doesn't embody the words historic or BLACK. who looks more like the schools A&T will be playing in their new conference (big south). GHOE homecoming tailgate should be interesting.

I keep hearing about the culture, but about the competitiveness and branding for the sports program. From an athlete's standpoint, I am looking to up my game, brand, exposure, etc to a wider audience. Too often many HBCUs focus on everything but the sports program. The culture will follow just like you see in soccer or American sports like the Raiders (I cannot believe I am giving them props 🤦🏿♂️), you just need to know how to market it as part of a strong and growing sports program.

Pathway Corporation either way you try to look at it the main goal is to get outside of the box which is the celebration bowl aka “the negro bowl” “we can’t beat white schools so we make our own bowl” (yeah I said it)...... A&T wants to get to the FCS playoffs and eventually move up to FBS like Liberty did......It’s time for us to move on and prove that we are more than just a dominant “HBCU” ....... If people want to go to Atlanta that bad they should just go instead of waiting for The Celebration Bowl. I’m ready for the move

EvrytingCriss919 I don’t believe we have anything to prove to anyone, we (A&T) have beaten top 5 fcs programs as well as fbs programs so you couldn’t be more wrong about beating white schools or the reason the “negro bowl” was created!! Don’t fall for the “white is right theory”

For the people on this video talking about "Exposure", when did playing on ESPNU, ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC (MEAC) become a downgrade because the Big South primarily plays on ESPN+ and ESPN3. Plus outside of Kennesaw State and Monmouth, the Big South is far worse than the MEAC And if they make the FCS in 2021, it's straight ESPN3 until the semifinals (if they get that far which I doubt) The need for white acceptance is real still for too many black people. Hampton and A&T ran to a sinking ship in the Big South rather than stay at home. That's cowardly
@itsvenises25204 жыл бұрын
There is nothing cowardly about this move at all. They will still be a HBCU. A cowardly thing to do is to stay the same and never trying anything new. Look at the backlash that’s coming from this and they still making the move. It sounds pretty brave to me. NCAT will make sure they get exposure no matter which conference they are in. NCAT has already made a name for themselves.
