Watching this 4 years, nearly to the day, in the future as I'm shopping for RAM and trying to decide if I should upgrade from 8 to 16 or just do 32 because I know I'll need it.

I had a nice life until 2 days ago when I checked my System settings for Minecraft, I didn't know my RAM was 4 GB. I thought I had 8 all the time.

Why not download RAM instead? Its much easier and its free!

In the past, I found various speeds of RAM just caused the overall RAM to run at the slowest speed sticks. However, when I tried to upgrade my 2 x 8GB sticks of Ripjaws RAM with another 2 x 8GB sticks of Ripjaws RAM sticks that are a slightly faster speed (other than that, all the specs are the same), I found they don't play nicely together. Rather than all the RAM just running at the slower speed of the older RAM, the all the RAM slowed to a snail's pace. It took about four times as long for my computer to boot and everything ran at about 1/4 of the normal speed, including loading web pages. I removed the new RAM and the computer still runs like normal. I still have to try the new RAM on it's own, to see if maybe that's the issue. I'll also try both pairs of RAM, on their own, in the other pairs of RAM slots on the mother board. If the faster RAM works, then I'll have to fork out a small fortune to buy yet another pair of the same faster RAM.

This was my first time seeing any of your videos, and I found this video in particular very useful! Tysvm! It's been a very long time since I've even considered anything on the topic of upgrading my computers since my computers are very old and outdated. In fact I only very recently learned how to do the old school lan gaming/networking without any internet. In fact that's what led me to your channel. We've been experiencing a gaming issue. Three computers are network together to play the game icewind Dale 2. One computer crashes every time it opens inventory in game. I wasn't sure if this was a graphics issue or memory issue or some other issue but none of the other computers have this issue. So I decided to start somewhere other than some of the workarounds we've already tried like adjusting the video settings in game, playing in a smaller screen, etc. In checking the memory, it really shouldn't have any trouble. Hmm

Hi. I recently ran into some problems which may be because of not enough ram... My computer starts to stutter at simple tasks and my memory usage idle is 60% or something like that. I was using 2x4gb but now I am upgrading to 2x8gb. I stopped on HyperX Fury because it was recommended by a friend and it's also more affordable than let's say corsair (at least in my country). One more thing, higher speed is not always better. RAM with lower CL is better than high speed with high CL. In fact, DDR1 with low CL is faster than DDR4 with high CL, google some tests. Always look for RAM with the lowest CL, then look at the speed.

Hello, I recently had to un-brick my 1 year old laptop with the help of my trusty outdatedAF pc tower. This gauntlet of arbitrary wisdom hunt led down many rabbit holes and dug up an old desire to techsport said pc tower. I have never build my own comp, so this inquiry is predominantly an exercise in doing so. From this video i gleam: my pc is pre2000 The sole ram card in this tower is an AENEON ULT30215 512mb card, with what looks like 3 available slots. I believe the motherboard model is ACPI\PNPOCO2\1 or ACPI\PNPOCO2\4 [from digging around in the system files] (possibly 0 not O, sry m8) My goal is to optimize the pc tower as far as it can given the dated hardware. Bonus points if I can implement a usb3.0 . The main use will probably end up as backup storage, cd/dvd writing, card reader It has been difficult finding a source for this kind of information, being flooded with modern webpages. To validate it's existance, it has been a reliable interim [albeit slowmo] through now 3 computer crashes. Hoping to build the foundations of vernacular and theory with this low-cost opportunity, I have access to pick and pull locations. Do you have a link for motherboard identification for this ddr1 era, with a max Ram spec?

I have an old ACER Aspire X running windows 8.1, it has 4 GB of DDR3 memory and capable of 8GB, it also has a 500 GB hard drive. I don't have the money to upgrade it or the money to buy a brand new computer. I live off a $726 per month social security check, when you have high bills and buy food it leaves so little to buy anything else, especially computers. 1 day I hope I can buy a computer with maybe 8 GB DDR4 minimum. It would have HDMI, then I would just use my Smart TV for the display, which I currently do with this computer.THANK YOU and BLESS YOU!

In my first build, I want 16 GB of RAM. If I had two 8 GB sticks and ran them in dual channel, would that equal 16 GB of RAM? I don't think I'd upgrade since 16 GB will be pretty much all I'll need forever. I've been researching and watching enough Techquickie and NCIX Tech Tips to know that 1 + 1 isn't always equal to 2 in the PC world.

Just ordered 2 x OWC 8 GB sticks for my Late 2015 27" Mac, gonna be upgrading from 2 x 4gb sticks because out of no where my iMac just started performing so slow and constantly crashing. Fingers crossed this is the answer to my prayers.

It aged very well. I'm sitting here in 2021 trying to decide if I should stick to the 32GB that comes with the Motherboard bundle I'm buying or splurge and get an extra set of the same sticks to go straight to 64GB and fill out all the slots on the board and be done with it.
