Mark is 100% correct here. Smoothie is more "experimental" considering it's a Dream song and not a 127 song. Having Unknown still gives that refreshing youthful and hopeful tone. Not to mention Dream's audience (for the most part) consists of a lot of people who are going through life with uncertainty and unease as they grow older. Having Smoothie is like "it's okay to try new things and take a chance" and then Unknown is like "but it's okay if you're afraid to do those things you got this keep your head up" and that's always what Dream has been about. Mark knows his audience and understands Dream's concept perfectly. Leader indeed

i'm not even a big nct dream fan or anything, i have some songs of theirs that i like and i just stumbled across this video somehow but i want to say mark really got a lot of respect from me for this. he went into this knowing what the best option was and was able to succeed in convincing the majority but the most important part to me is how he's focused more on the quality of the music that reflects their career up until now than what would make a few seconds of the song go viral or the performance, which is already more of a important factor for the title song. i really respect that a lot, as someone who values music quality over trendiness and who knows how nowadays many groups don't care about the quality and are more drawn to making something go viral, and i really love how he did not waver at all and his beliefs and trust towards his music is so strong. i just listened to unknown and it's a great song, i'm 100% with him (and now i'm gonna go play the song multiple more times)

Haechan asking each one of the members what song they like at the beginning of the video, waiting for everyone to share their opinions before sharing his, and explaining clearly his perspective are all so admirable of him. He even consider Breathing and Box because these songs are suggested by others despite Carat Cake being his personal choice. When he was conflicted with the performance for Unknown, he specifically asked how they would interpret it. Even made the others laugh (esp CL and JM) along the way and even had fun vibing around with RJ. When JS had a thought he listened and explained to him camly how people watch shows nowadays. In turn, JS agreed with him. I love also how Haechan carries himself with so much knowledge and confidence. People see it as something bad goodness, we need more people like him who are straightforward and goal-driven. And no, it doesn't make him shallow that he's after trends/virality of the song. He is so sure of Dream's abilities and wants to introduce the group to a larger audience. His target is the general public. I think mark want to keep the essential of NCT dream through to song. Unknown has a Beautiful lyrics its can captivating attention better. If unknown revise to speed ver. I think is could viral easily as well, interm of the lyrics inspire to people. I think carat cake honestly would have been such a nice contrast to smoothie. I agree it had a better chance at bringing non fans in to check out the dreamies, and it would have appealed to a wider audience. If you’re thinking strategically about the current K-pop market, carat cake makes sense as the b side to promote. Unknown is great for sure, but after seeing the stage today it was a bit lackluster.

i'm so happy mark fought for unknown with everything he had. it's my favourite track on the album and it made me so happy when i learned they were gonna promote it alongside smoothie. the entire album is absolutely incredible so i would've liked any of the other tracks but unknown just has that special something about it

에셈은 아이돌이라면 타이틀은 무조건 센걸해야지라는 구시대적인 마인드가 박혀있는것 같음 그 생각이 아티스트들한테도 계속 주입되는거 같고......마크 말대로 드림의 무기는 퍼포먼스가 아니라 노래임 그걸 알면서도 타이틀은 계속 센걸 가져가면 그건 타이틀이 아니라 그냥 버리는거 아닌가....?제발 가장 잘하고 팬들대중이 원하는걸 1순위로 보여줬으면. 난 아직도 고래가 1집 타이틀이었어야 했다고 본다.......
