PREX 105 works on the ND&W Railroad in Cecil Ohio. This is the former Maumee and Western Railway (MAW) now owned and operated by Pioneer Railcorp. In the first scene the 105 is struggling to shove about 50 loaded boxcars into the Lafarge tracks for short term storage. Right now the tomato crop is being harvested and the Campbell's soup plant ordered more cars than the railroad has practical capacity for. This branch is the former Cincinnati Northern mainline, now just a spur off the ND&W main to service Lafarge/Systech. It is also the only place they have to store the overflow of these cars. In the next scenes they cross RD 105 heading north on the CN and then head onto the main at Cecil.

Miss the sound of those old GP9's working in the yard when I would go down by the depot and watch them switch out cars.

Scott that's music to my ears and brings back a memory when I worked as a brakeman on the Chessie(C&O) and we was working a long cut of loaded hoppers with a GP9 and that old Geep's amp meter had to be spending a lot of time bouncing in the red zone but, the engineer was skilled and we got the job done.

From watching many GP9's and various models a they've been rebuilt to, they're an engine that handles tough jobs reliably

That house at 09:30. Imagine getting stuck in your own driveway waiting for a train to pass. Lol personally I think it’d be cool as heck to have tracks going thru my front yard, sit on the porch and watch trains.

I had the tracks for Kansas City Southern going through my parents backyard! We lived off Airline Hwy in Metairie Louisiana and back in the day the old Kansas City line ran up the side of Airline Hwy and we lived a block away from Clearview and Airline! So we not only got to see the freight trains but the Amtrack trains as well! Once a month the freight trains would smash a 18 Wheeler or cars and trucks all because idiots would stop at the red light on the tracks! The engines would start blowing their horns right behind my parents house! Talk about nightmares as a kid trying to sleep in the middle of the night! I don't know what was more scary the horns or the sound of the engines sounding like they are about to drive through your house! Then those old tracks were really bad so you constantly worried about derailments happening which did from time to time! I remember two boxcars laying on their sides for almost a year in front of the cemetery Garden of Memories before Kansas city Southern finally removed them! After years of trucks and cars getting crushed Jefferson Parish forced Kansas City Southern to move their tracks to the back set of tracks where the Central Ave freight yard was held! I did have a lot of fond memories of the old trains even though I had many nightmares as a kid!

It is terrible that this engine isn't back where it belongs in the heart of apple country. It's rightful and true home is riding the rails of the Gettysburg railroad in Adams county PA. Many years ago this engine had a beautiful Leslie RS3L mounted on the long hood end. I had a video of this beast working the Cadbury plant in Aspers some years ago, but I am afraid I cannot find it. It is really too bad because the engineer was working the hell out of the engine. Fantastic clouds of black smoke with the throttle advancements....oh man!

Sweet vid man. Reminds me of my years on the Chicago and northwestern. They had a bunch of GP7s. They used them in the yard, on wayfreights and transfer jobs. A solid all around workhorse of a loco.

@@RailPreserver2K nice info... does it have the same cnw unit number or did they change it... at the time of the cnw/up merger back in 95 we had 10 GP9s on the roster... one of them, cnw 4527 was acquriuerd from the QNSL railway... the others, cnw 4450-4459, were acquired from the rock island

I don’t think they’ll ever be over 10 unless they can afford to change the rail. Over 100 years old and brittle.

Ahhh, looks like an old dual control unit. Either that or it was built to run long hood forward. All of the MOPS old GP9's were dual control. It was a mess inside the cab too. Always smelled like wet stale air. These were really good loco's. Easy to work off of switching too. On the main line ours stayed in Notch 8. That was standard position for them on the MOP and I've gone back many many times 4 or 5 engines deep restarting one as we rolled down the tracks.
