How I Fish A Stretch Of River For Summer Smallmouth

I spend the day chasing smallies on the river and share some tips and tricks I use to catch them. The methods I use here will catch fish from the time they finish spawning in early June here in MN through early October when the water cools and the fish move off the river into deeper water.

Those summer sounds of the river sure are great! I have a half hour sound clip of nature’s symphony from a late summer day on the river that I’ll play on my home stereo every now and then during winter.

This is what I believe sites like You Tube wanted to give a platform to those who truly are gifted who know how to entertain. So many channels try to force themselves on the viewer, within first 15 secs "Subscribe, Like, hit the bell", without ever really letting the viewer see their content. They need to watch you, Matt you have such a way about you that we all here are drawn to this channel. Like so many others, I could watch all day! Thanks!

I just want to make a point here even though I know it's a late comment. I didn't even know you had a fish until I heard the splashing. @@TheManhu01 Well Stripers are huge compared to smallmouth and Peacock survive the Amazonian rivers. I really don't consider them as a comparison as they flourish in warm water as opposed to smallmouth in cold clear freshwater.

Thanks Matt. It’s great to hear your thoughts as you fish the river. I will use your some of your tips next time I’m out. It has been a tough summer on my local river. The topwater bite has been nonexistent. Most productive lure has been a tube jig followed by a ned rig with a TRD. Slower fishing dragging along bottom. Its been a very hot summer. Hoping things will pick up in the fall as things cool down. Thanks again for the video

I recently floated a stretch of river. We used two vehicles, but it was super fun. Lots of action on whopper ploppers. Some were on beds but not many. About 3/4 of the way through, I got a whopper plopper hook in my leg after a 19 incher went ballistic on the deck of the boat. An ER visit and a scar later, the hook was out. I watch this video every time I go out to fish a river. It really is helpful!

Another great video. Who needs TV when you can watch this? Lol I have to hand it to you. I think you are the consummate smallie pro. From your boat positioning, to your accurate casts, your gear, and your total approach to fishing all I can do is salute your commitment. It has made me a better fisherman. Thanks for sharing!

I have been watching your videos the past few days (just subscribed) and it really has me wanting to buy a kayak! I have a bass boat now but, I know I'm missing some opportunities to get into some backwaters and rivers by not having a kayak. Videos and content are great! Keep it up!

If you would've posted this one day ago I could've watched it before my 4 mile kayak trip down the Huron River for Smalleys. Funny how that works out, I picked up some hellgramite lures and had some luck, nothing to crazy like yours! Thanks man!!

The Huron? I fished it for 13 years when I lived in Ann Arbor. It is a solid small mouth river, especially come August nights during the white miller hatch. Enjoy it!

I’m a new subscriber, and really like your videos, feel inspired to get out there and fish again after a two year absence from the sport. Like the fact that you share your technics and fishing gear you use. Thanks

This is one of your best videos. Bonus footage because of the length, and great didactic approach. Two thumbs up!

My favorite one so far is a tie between your grandfather's lures and when you try out your mayfly wacky style rig... Love those
