Neal Theise - Is the World Self-Organizing?

Are the laws of nature or physics blind in that they seek no direction and have no 'purpose'? That's the scientific paradigm. But the world works so well: from a very simple beginning, complexities and beauties have emerged. Some say that there are deep 'organizing principles' in the laws of nature such that complexities are natural and expected outcomes.

Are you familiar with the work of Ilya Prigogene on dissipative structures? It originated from the study of far from equilibrium thermodynamics of chemical systems. Terrence Hill applied those concepts to kinetics of biochemical systems and how free energy was converted to useful work, such as muscle contraction. “From Being to Becoming” is very accessible starting point.

Same old simulation argument ... with an intelligence "programming" in randomness with set procedures/functions. Most believe the the Universe & Life have a NATURAL origin 14 & 4 billions years, ... obviously involving some form of RANDOMNESS. And definitely not by a powerful intelligence called God. Again. Anything that has a purpose, rules, FUNCTION, properties, design, INFORMATION .. that can be extracted & used by an intelligence ... is made by an intelligence. There is only the PHYSICAL & ABSTRACT existence. Both contain INFORMATION from the mind of an intelligence ... for an intelligence. Everything makes complete sense ... when everything is an ABSTRACT ( time, space, Laws of Physics) or PHYSICAL (matter, energy) Function. Excellent presentation on a most important topic. And self-organization in the neuroplastic brain is particularly interesting, because of its parallels with self-organization in city-culture. A brain, as a colony of neurons, is directly analogous to a city, as a colony of people. Brains self-organize into their functional specializations just as cities do (as do ant, bee & termite colonies). And as do colonies of bacteria, as per Kim McDonald's (2015) title: Biologists discover bacteria communicate like neurons in the brain. UCS San Diego News Center. Interesting conjecture follows: How a human personal thought is analogous to a city's higher-level cultural "thought" (fashion, tradition, role-model, news).

Self organisation means from a state of disorganization it moves to state of harmony. Or is it constantly vibrating between these two states? Or is organizing from one state to other organised state. That means there is no disorganization at all.

Even we nonagenarian philosophers of science struggled at first w/the informatics of emergence & self-organization, but reductionism accommodates them at the fundaments of ontology. Our universe [presumably one of N] resides w/in a larger mathematical entity: that 'set of all sets' called the kosmos: boundless & perpetual. Nothingness being impossible by definition, somethingness has always & will always exist [viz. JP Sartre, L'Etre et Le Neant, Paris, 1943]--the Aquinian uncaused cause. Worse for equanimity: Libet, Koch, Dennett, Churchland, Tonioni et alia have demo'd that mentation & volition are 20-khz sweeper-wave consensae: mind & will are neuro-phantoms. To cope, pursue neo-Kantian Hans Vaihinger [18056-1932], who counseled acting As If we had agency. Famously, he prayed, "Dear God, if there is one, have mercy on my soul, if I have one." Indeed, perceived agency could propel H. semper unsapiens to provolution among the stars. Our college daughter, ever-pragmatic tho, advises 'first regreen Earth'.

(9:25) *NT: **_"No member of the system can be monitoring the whole thing."_* ... Truth! New York City is an enormous, thriving metropolis that only 400 years ago was nothing more than soil, rocks and trees. Back then, nobody building a little cabin where NYC is now ever conceived that it would end up like it has. NYC represents the gradual evolution of a miniscule amount of information into extremely complex information ... and no individual person was responsible. Even so, I argue that this is not necessarily _"self-organization"_ as much as Existence necessarily moving from *simplicity to complexity.* What we are calling "organization" is really just Existence shifting current information around until it finds a way to generate more information ... because that's what Existence (information) does! At the end of the day, "Life" generates EXPONENTIALLY MORE information than all of the inanimate matter used to generate life. *Side Note:* This is a timely CTT segment as this has been discussed in recent comments. ... Perhaps CTT actually reads these comments? ... Or maybe this just the _beginning stages_ of a more complex system evolving from a lesser system?

I think we just really don't know, in the end, how or why the structures of the universe - one of those structures being us and all the other species - has formed. I don't believe in any spiritual world or the supernatural, which are just bywords for our ignorance and fantasies of being immortal, but the theories we have today are probably a clumsy sketch of some very very much bigger picture.

Like cmon gtfoutta hereee. I’m a scientist and artist. Not the most brilliant person who ever existed- but I’m now keen enough to see this stuff as clear as day. “We’ll we can’t invoke anything like a higher-power- it must be doing it by itself!” Even though Occam’s Razor at this point, points every finger at a potential higher power. Shot in the 1850s we discovered there were microbes everywhere- how is it even close to spicy to suggest higher collective beings exist? Our first and most fatal assumption is always the worst- that we are “real.” And that pain exists- so the world must be a cold, empty place. I see a change though. People are starting to see the love and appreciate- including me. You can see yourself as a disgusting abhorrent creature- or you can open your eyes to see the LOVE that’s required to incubate this thing called life :)

*"Self-organization” is another word for “we don’t understand the intelligence and we want to make it seem as pointless as possible but in reality it’s a deeper beauty we cannot yet touch on with science”* ... You're reading an awful lot into a simple, technical definition. "self-organization" is merely what is being "observed" whenever we see simplicity mysteriously evolving into complexity. Some think it's God; others think it's consciousness. Some even claim it's just randomness becoming less random. While the mystery remains, "self-organization" is the most logical term to use.

At the very most fundamental level of everything is an Underlying and Permeating Field of Information. Thinking about "Nothingness" is still creating Information / "The Information of Nothingness". Even if at some point in Time "Nothing" existed, that Information of Nothingness was still "Something". The Something being the Information. Therefor it is a Paradox. All things exist simultaneously with No things existing. The Field of Information generates all of Existence. The thought of doing something always occurs before the act of doing it. So, Action follows Thought. Thought follows Consciousness. Consciousness = the Infinite, Permeating and Underlying Field of Quantum Information which generates All Existence while Existence resides within the Field while having a bit of the Field inside of anything created by the Field. That "bit of Field" is individual Consciousness. But never forget it is only a piece of the Infinite Consciousness. All existence is an Excitation on a Field. You, Me, Dog, Cat, Car, Truck, Building, Dirt, Mud, Grass, Soda, Water, Earth, Universe, Brains, Toys, Burgers, Good, Evil, Love, Hate, Hot, Cold, Happy, Sad etc- Are all individualized, personified emanations from the Field/Source. Each of us were made by Source. Exist within Source. & have Source within us. But none of us ARE the Source. The Source = Eternal Consciousness/God/Akash. All other gods in existence, all angels and fallen angels, demons, monsters, cute things, nasty things, are all individual excitations within the Field. Everything is a Personalized, Individualized Emanation of and from the Field. Even me typing this comment started as a Thought within my Mind before becoming a physical manifestation on a screen so that my internal thoughts can be seen by others. The Thoughts originate within Consciousness. Consciousness exists outside the boundaries of Spacetime while also existing within Spacetime, creating our 3rd density hologram reality, which is nothing more than excitations within an Eternal Field of Consciousness.

1 Corinthians 2: 6-16 New International Version God’s Wisdom Revealed by the Spirit "6) We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7) No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8) None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9) However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”- the things God has prepared for those who love him- 10) these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11) For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12) What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13) This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.14) The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15) The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16) for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ."

So it's something of a mystery as to why they are often the unhappiest (about everything), most agitated (about everything), most possessive ("pass the collection plate, please"), and worst-behaved (you could put down pretty much anything here, but I opted for that decidedly underhanded behaviour exhibited a few years back by some priests, you might have seen some of it on the news? Most likely, yes. That, or our conception of it certainly is. There are no colors, sounds, tastes, odours, or indeed even things that touch out there in the world. We never perceive things as they are 'in and of themselves', but only as they 'are to ourselves'. No one has ever, or will ever, perceive of _anything_ outside of their own mind.
