I regret to report that George passed away a few months ago. It was an honor to know and work for him. Our relationship began in about 1962 when he hired me to help on the farm. The images of the shop bring back so many memories. Sharpening sickles for the mowers, brazing broken sickle bars, filling grease guns from the 5 gallon bucket of grease, tearing down bomb boxes hauled home from the Igloo SD ordnance depot, straightening the nails to reuse when building granaries from the wood from the boxes, hail stones denting the tin roof. What a wonderful family.

Sorry to hear the news of George's passing....thank you for letting us know Marv. I recall the day we filmed this vividly. We were filming a nearby farm auction for our Machinery Pete TV show....George came up and introduced himself and we got to talking, had time after the sale and out we drove to their farm. Such nice folks. Was an honor to be able to film George telling us about his tractor collection. I'll always smile thinking about that day :-)

@@machinerypete Hi Pete, thanks for reply. Thanks so much for doing the show on George and Belva and the collections. I book marked it the first time I saw it and go back to it now and then. His family and theirs will be able to see this for years to come, something few people will be able to do. George was like a second father to me and we remained in touch over the years. My kids enjoyed visiting the farm when we were back that way every few years. George would show us around the farm, what was new, how the crops were doing, the land I spent so many hours on keeping the weeds of summer fallow, putting up hay, hauling wheat from the field to the grain bins. So many precious memories. My wife and I were out that way in 2017 for the eclipse and George and Belva had us park our 5th wheel by the shop since all sites, motels, etc. had been reserved for the event long before we thought about making the trip. George put me to work working summer fallow for the afternoon. The tractor was nothing like the John Deere 70 I had spent so many hours on. Closed cab with air conditioning. No longer breathing the dust when going with the wind. Covered the ground twice as fast (at least) as what we could do with the 70. Last time we were out there was in 2019 and got the usual tour of the farm and the tractor barn. We will sorely miss George. We remain in contact with Belva. Thanks again and best wishes Marv

You have 1 heck of a nice collection George, i grew up on a dairy farm here south of Rockfalls, Illinois, by Tampico, Illinois, my mom passed in 2014, my dad is 91 & doing well still driving, my dad bought a superC in 1952, he had a new M & super M & a gas 400, later we had a Case 930 & 1030 , i'd help my neighbors haul corn in when i was about 16, they took great care of their tractors & equipment, i used their 4020, i loved that thing, it was smooth & powerful, was a big tractor but not big & clumsy, that was always my favorite tractor, that & my dads SuprC, ironically enough, the whole time living at home we had a wood furnace brick lined just like yours, that thing would make you sweat when it was 30 below outside, cut a lot of wood as a kid, i could go on because when i saw yr video here it made me think of my childhood a lot, we also had a Ford 901 Select o speed, i scraped allies in the free stall shed using that & a scraper blade pushing the manure in the pit to be pumped under ground to the slurrystore, to sum this up thanks for sharing your story on yr collection, job well done George Thankyou!! We butchered our own cattle , hogs , chickens ,turkeys , ducks, also raised pheasants , that furnace if you put hedge wood in it , that stuff would burn hotter than coal, it would burn yr bricks out if you were'nt careful, just had to add that....

Spent a lot of hours on a 200 narrow front end with a 5-6 foot mower. Dad had a contract to maintain 100 acres of unused commercial lot in Elgin IL. My older brother drove the 3010 which was like a cadillac compared to the 200. $10 an hour beat the $4 my fast food job paid and at age 15 that was pretty good money (early 90's). Just bring an old pillow to put under your butt to make it through the day. :^)

Send me a message if he still needs paint for that coop (I realize it’s been 6 years, but you never know) I’m up here in Saskatchewan Canada and can send a colour code for him to mix it or i can send a few litres down south. Awesome collection by the way George. I just wish more of my generation (millennials) was into keeping up on the history of these old beauties! There are still some of us that like to restore them back to original, but a lot are all being modified for tractor pulling if they don’t sell there dad or grandads collections first. I always said if I could go back in time I’d pick the mid to late 40s or 50s. Back when men were men, and tractors were made to last, and everyone knew what a good days work was regardless of their occupation. Nowadays I can’t even work on half the tractors we own without computer programs and all that.

thanks for your amazing work you do Pete. showing us all the machinery that really is like a bible of Farming. The manufactures of today are all mired in stupidity and deceptive thinking. I just heard of a newer 2 w d tractor consuming 21 gallons not liters per hour of Diesel that's Canadian gallons yet pulling a harrow. soon we'll be hauling more tones of fuel to produce food than the tones of food we actually produce. back a few years ago the perspective was real. now the garbage built can't make it through one season without the dealers service unit parked at each end of the field. love you Pete

The Board of Directors have approved the donation and are excited to say that George’s Collection will soon have its new home at Legacy of the Plains Museum. We will need to build a display barn, though. As a 501 C3 non-profit, we can accept tax deductible donations to help build the necessary facility to open to the public. We’re in Gering, Nebraska. Come and see our Museum. It’s pretty great and getting even better.
