Here I sew out a Necchi Supernova, I show the bobbin winder and bobbin case and how to load the bobbin. I use some of the machine's basic zig zag function.

I just inherited my grandmothers machine like this and am so excited to use it. I’ve cleaned it all up and gave it a good run. I was wondering if your machine bounces when running fast?

That is cool, use it and have fun, grandma will approve. Yes many machine vibrate and/or jiggle a bit at full speed but since most don't sew at that speed I don't think it much of an issue. Maybe when your filling a bobbin just back off the throttle a little bit.

Salve ho un problema con la Necchi Super Nova , mi rompe sempre il filo dentro il tendifilo dove si incastra e poi e non scorre più fino alla rottura,ho provato a spostarlo su tutte le misure poi l'ho pulito benissimo dentro i dischetti ma niente da fare neanche con altri tipi di filato, avete qualche consiglio? Grazie.

Would this be considered an industrial machine? I would need to be able to see through at least 4 layers of seatbelt webbing without it jamming up. Thanks!

No, this is not an industrial. This is a domestic or home machine. Light, portable and intended for clothing and household items.

My necchi Supernova ultra c. 1958-60, was just rehauled and I am unable to raise the bobbin thread. It's been a while since I've used it so I need some basic set-up help, please.Thanks so much.

+Leatrice. Robinson Most common problems assuming your timing is correct and it probably is. Make sure you have the correct needle. Check that your needle is properly installed with the groove to the left, scarf to the right. Thread your needle from left to right. Check that your bobbin is correctly installed and leave about a 4 or 5 inch tail to pull up. If all this is correct then it should probably work. Good luck.

You a a machine (and tool guru) learned much from table video...I have the power tools, just need to pass learning curve. You helped a lot. I have basic q; I watched not all your videos, but some home, some industrial machines.....why is it I was cautioned to "always" use the hand wheel to begin sewing? You never do it. Is it possible my myriad of teachers all had poorly maintained machines, which did not turn easily? Maybe belts were needing replacement. I have a Necci BU. Wish I knew age. more research to do.....so far some time in '48 to '53

I am self taught so I am sure I do stuff wrong all the time. What I heard is you should start after first plunging the needle through the fabric. I think, like you, that it helps to keep from stalling a weak motor. Personally I have never seen much of a need for it but to each their own. These are my machines so I guess I get to use them as I see fit. Ha ha, I kid 😊

Thanks for reply. Not a needle issue. I always start (and stop) with needle take up lever at highest point, reduces those snarls in the bobbin case. Although when changing to a different project/fabric, especially with heavy fabrics & larger needle sizes, I do walk the needle down into the fabric and back the first full rotation of a stitch to be certain the feed dogs/presser foot is set and moving the fabric correctly. Prevents broken needles if the bobbin case happens to be inserted incorrectly. BTW I think I saw you inserting a bobbin case in a video. That flipper lever (In my Necchi) does two things, one acts as handle, two, when fully perpendicular to the bobbin it grips the bobbin so it won't move or slip out - most important if you don't fully engage the bobbin case before releasing the lever, that bobbin can slack up just enough thread to cause a snarl and possibly bent or break needle. I watched more of your machine videos. Looks to me like all the machines, and motors need no help starting up, and sewing smoothly, even making the heavy canvas bag you demonstrated. My mom may have made up this rule due to an improperly tension-ed belt, and it just became cemented in her head, and passed on to me.. LOL Kudos for the great videos & projects.

My grandma has this machine and I am trying to learn how to use it. However, the needle will not go on its own and needs help and sometimes won't go at all. Anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do?

Try tightening the thumb screw knob in the center of the hand-wheel. This is a disengagement feature so that the needle doesn't operate as you fill a bobbin.

I have been using that knob to get it to go. If I move it forward and keep going it will sew it but just kills my hand and takes forever! If I go back then forward again sometimes it starts to go automatically?

Jackie Damhoff Just tighten it down and you shouldn't have to mess with it any more. Righty tighty. Maybe you have a weak motor or a slipping belt. You might need to get it serviced, Impossible to say from here.

It is impossible for me to diagnose. Check your feed dogs for loose screw. Check the rotating plate over the feed dogs and check your stitch length setting. That is the best I can do. Good Luck

Most of those old home machines had several needle plates. For example they would have one for straight stitch and another for zig zag stitching.
