A fun strategy I used for my cave people was having a side tunnel that leads outside (with multiple doors to deter raiders) and once they are engaged with your pawns at your main entrance, have one pawn with molotovs go out the side down and start blowing them up from behind.

Keep the bodies of your slain enemies just outside the front entrance. That way raiders get immediately demoralised when they witness the fate of the last raid.

Man Tynan needs to add an option to work bills that automatically sorts the revered and hated weapons/armour ie if you have it set to sharp vs blunt it should have a category that shows all the blunt weapons or vice versa to make it easy to clear hated weapons etc

my go to for quite sometime was breeding and raising defense wargs. combined with ranged weapons you are almost unstoppable with an army of trained wargs. yes it does make your base disgusting unless you have a dedicated cleaning pawn

My very first colony is doing quite well actually. The first two winters were hard and nearly all my animals died but my colonists survived barely and malnourished. Now in year three it works out quite well so far. I do play on default diffuclty however and the tutorial helped me to start the colony without dying immediately. Never had more than 4 Raiders at once. My favourite thing I have done so far is replacing like everything I could with prostethics on a body purist prisoner to then release him.

6:00 I would have rather built a wall that forces enemies to walk over areas that give them less movement speed, like the marsh. Then only have traps as a last line of defence. Behind the wall you can have an area which is better for the colonists to walk on, with a door or two to use. Creating a bit of a chicane area slows the enemies down, which allows you to chase down fleeing enemies easier, using the door to bypass chicane.

Put sandbags or barricades in front of cover points, it stops enemies from taking cover there so you can shoot them better

The fact that colonists don't retrieve their weapon when they are up and about again is an asinine issue.

Get a gauranlen tree planted when possible. The pawn connected to it will need to prune the tree daily. But it does increase plant skills. Can use the tree to boost plant skill, even if you don't end up using the dryads it produces or don't maintain the connection to spawn them.

I had a dog named Bear, and I just thought it would be fun to name a bear Dog.

You can get raided from mountain edges if you find a new area that isn’t under mountain. I’ve never had it happen with an open mountain tunnel, but it has happened to me from a tiny (6x5) little pond/forest area reveal spot. It went, find it, set trees to cut and build solar, seal front of the mountain so there’s no exit to the middle of the map. Watch traders and raiders and a mechaniod defoliant cluster fight each other. Then, when waiting to see if the defoliant thing would work on hydroponics new raid! From behind me, where all my valuable stuff was kept. I think two of them killed my colonists with my own weapon cache. Still better than the time an infestation popped up in a shallow mine just after everyone mobilized to fight a defoliant cluster that landed in my heal root field on the other side of the colony. I think it only happens if you make it so there’s no path to your home area from any of the other edges. Not certain, but that’s the only time I saw it happen.

I had a run that was rather difficult, after a decent amount of deaths, my colony was entirely desperately recruited ex-prisoners later on in the game and some had no ability to do medical stuff. needless to say, later when a errant grenade took out my last remaining healer, everyone died, except the fully trained bear, who took out every enemy. downside, I've heard if everyones dead and you keep the game going, eventually someone shows up to take over the base, well because the bear was still alive, and had a fridge filled with meat still running, no one showed up, after two more raids who got killed by the bear, no more people showed up, and the bear just kept on eating and sleeping, no matter how long I left the game running, it would not die so I could keep my base and get a new person show up.

It's always interesting to see how others take care of their colonists and how they manage them tbh. I tend to get around 20-25 colonists by the end, and i'll take anyone. Never cared much about stats. If they're alive? They're my prisoner til they join 😂
