Muhammed Suicmez is never coming back. The money is not there. There are tons of offshoot bands that are all great, Obscura, Alkaloid, Christian Muenzner, Hans Grossman, Blotted Science... we just have to be happy with what we get.

I remember trying to learn “Seven” and getting the intro down. Then...my brain breaking attempting the rest. I don’t know how Sucimez does vocals on top of playing that stuff. Legendary album.

That's the sad part about and the good part about being into extreme genres of music. We get to see real musical genius such as Sucimez. He wrote practically all their stuff, played it perfectly live and had really good vocals on top. The sad part is that it's hard to share it with anyone outside the genre.

LOL Agreed with you guys above me^^^ I’m far more interested in Ulcerate, Decrepit Birth and Gorguts. Epitaph was great for it’s time, but it’s played out. Would’ve loved to hear the follow-up. Even talked to Muhammed about it at Summer Slaughter 2010, back when he was telling everyone “We’re going into the studio next month...”. Yeah, well, it’s all good. There’s so much tech-death out there now, even if they put out a new record it would just get buried imho. So many better bands out there than Necrophagist these days...

I legit shed a tear sometimes when I hear that first solo. I heard this album at such a pivotal time in my life and something about Epitaph has stayed with me more than any record. Being about 13 and hearing this shit and thinking "wtf is THIS?" I think I was listening to Slipknot and Linkin Park alot before that lmao

I relate so much to this comment. This album was scary to me when I heard it. It was the scariest most beautiful music I had ever heard. I was in my friend's old car driving on the freeway when I heard it. Can still smell the car.

One of the greatest death metal albums of all time. Don't care what elitist idiots say. This album alone gave birth to bands like Obscura almost completely. The range of bands this album has inspired is endless.

What do elitists say? I've never really seen anyone shitting on Necrophagist beyond some people, myself included, finding the lyrics corny (I generally find the whole gory themes silly)?! But hey who listens to death metal for the lyrics, right?! I certainly don't. Are there really morons that disagree Necrophagist pretty much paved the way for tech death as we know it?! Epitath is an album that still fares well today in the death metal genre in terms of musicality despite having been released 15 years ago. Tells a lot about how ahead of its time this album was. A true masterpiece.

Only death metal album better than this is Individual Thought Patterns, which completely changed my life when I randomly bought it at FYE when I was 15. My other favorites are by Gorguts and Vehemence. I don’t really listen to much straight-up death metal anymore though.

Let me remind you that 1% of the world population is still roughly 73'500'000 people. I doubt that there would be even a hundred thousand people that are technically savvy enough to play Necrophagist cleanly (given 2.5 years of time, of course), so I believe that his feat is much more impressive than your estimate suggests

Wow, incredible dedication to stick at it and nail the whole album. Tech DM masterpiece. Now take what you've learned on this journey and write the Epitaph follow-up we never! Also, little known fact about the album - the legendary audio engineer Bob Katz mastered it, famous for tons of jazz classics. That's why it's so unbelievably dynamic for a DM album with no clean guitars.

This was beyond impressive. Every aspect of it. I wanted to do exactly this when I was way younger, thats 13 years ago now and all this time I always faced riffs and licks that just would never ever clean up. I practiced some songs for hours each day for over a year and I never saw it happening. So I put that dream under ground without ever giving it a proper burial. Its one of my biggest shames in life, I still sometimes run through Epitaph joylessly and pity myself for getting worse at it over time. Tech was my love and I threw it aside because I couldnt be bothered to keep my chops up, I rather played fucking video games. This has rekindled the flame. Im taking the oath, I will bash my head against it one more time in your honor. Thank you for inspiring me like noone has in so many years. Before I am 35 I will have put up a whole playthrough of Epitaph. Thank you with all my heart.
