Cricket is to the Dutch, what soccer or tennis is to the US. Even though the US has awesome tennis facilities and has some good players, having lived there I can tell you, its simply not popular at all. You are considered a weirdo if you play any sport other than American football. It will take time to grow. The moment they play more regularly it will change. First of all, not many matches are played in netherlands. That must change first. Similarly in India, most ppl dont care about basketball or tennis. The % of ppl who watch it is minimal

Had gehoopt dat ie oprecht de regels van cricket ging uitleggen. Het is echt niet zo moeilijk en ook helemaal niet suf en elitair. Publiek lijkt meer op darts publiek met zingen en dansen en bier drinken en gekke pakken aan. Ja het duurt 7/8 uur maar cricket kijk je ook anders dan bijvoorbeeld voetbal. Je zet het aan en gaat ondertussen wat anders doen.

De basisregels zijn erg simpel. Bowler gooit naar de batsmen, die moet slaan en heen en weer lopen op de pitch, en als er 10 batsmen uit zijn of x overs is gehaald wisselen de partijen. Meeste runs wint.

Sure. It is bat and ball game played over two innings - two teams switch turns to bat and bowl. Whichever scores more runs before it gets all out or overs are completed -it wins. One day game which is being played in the world cup has 50 overs for each team, while the shorter format- has 20 overs , which typically lasts about 3 hours.

Bat and ball game. Bowler throws the ball at the batter. The batter hits the ball with his bat and then runs to the other end of the pitch which will give him 1 point (run). If he hits the ball out of the boundary it will award him 4 points or 6 points (runs) depending on if the ball hit the ground before going to the boundary or not. If it didn't hit the ground, that's when 6 points is awarded instead of 4. If a catcher catches the ball, the batter is out and can't play anymore. The batter is also out if the ball hits the sticks (stumps) behind him. The final way a batter can be out is if a catcher throws the ball at the stumps while the batter is attempting to score 1 point by running to the other end of the pitch and didn't make it in time. After every batter of a team gets out or after the quota of balls bowled is over, the other team will bat. And they will have to chase down the score set by the first team.
