Im in the uk and a electrician on commerical trucks (semi's to the us). There is a massive shortage here of anybody coming into the motor trade in general in all areas here. We have the same problems with pay also. But we arent having a slow down with the encomy either. Even in 08/09 the indies never slowed, only got busier. And we dont need all the qualifications you need to turn a spanner, you either know what you're doing or you do inspections and services here. There is that much of a shortage now that the idiots who would have been gone 20yrs ago are still employed to fill boots and do basic stuff. If been in the trade nearly 30yrs now and its only going to get worse.

I'm an HVAC tech. If the pay wasn't so bad for mechanics, I would have been one. But HVAC pays so much. My buddy is making $157 k a year working in a pharmaceutical company fixing their HVAC systems. It's a very hard trade like diesel tech, but it's well worth it.

I apologize beforehand of being some random passerby but I wanted to say that I very much do believe your words because I have a brother who went the HVAC route and he is now actually a refrigerant tech and he makes like 30 something dollars an hour and that doesn't even include the enormous amounts of overtime that he gets. Lastly he gets a raise almost every year and it's sometimes not even every year but like multiple times during the year it's just man that's all he gets is money.

@laminarflow6072 refrigeration techs make a ton of money, man. I'm surprised he only makes $30 an hour. They are responsible for sometimes millions of dollars of products when fixing something. Plus, they really only stand around most of the time and wait for something to happen most of the time.

GSE (ground service equipment) mechanics are little known niche, I lucked out and found an independent company with contracts to UPS airlines… but the equipment is still just nuts and bolts. On Reddit GSE mechanics can top out a few dollars shorter than an aircraft mechanic at major airlines. Most come over from diesel equipment and a few from automotive. My boss was a bmw master tech then left for GSE and now owns a company that contracts to 5 airports…

What state is this in if you don’t mind me asking?

@@Themiddleclassmechanic Idaho/Washington/Montana. Is where the company I work for is out of. Major airlines pay better in bigger cities Iv heard. Jobs are plenty out there they just do a terrible job advertising. I found this one on Craigs list lol

im leaning torwards construction or farming equipment cuz in the fleet is harder to learn
@ThemiddleclassmechanicАй бұрын
I’d vote construction, seems that they pay better.
@johnvillanueva1240Ай бұрын
i have 0 plans working in the fleet cuz they push for time cuz truckers need to get back on the road asap unless if its the government or garbage trucks but constructio or agricultural side its a lot more chill cuz they dont want reworks and theres no epa and dot regulations

Compared to light vehicles, I was always told twice the pay but four times the work. Stick to cars.
@ThemiddleclassmechanicАй бұрын
Yeah maybe true in some cases. It’s worth making twice as much and hourly in most HD jobs in my opinion. Not every day is changing truck tires and the longer you’re around the less heavy shit you tend to do and make more. Results vary.
@anthonyp151Ай бұрын
@Themiddleclassmechanic I stuck to light vehicles. I tried heavy for about 2 months close to 20 year's ago, I didn't like it.
