How can merchants of far of place give name to a place Before trading started this place existed, it was a small fishing village,naturally it had a name before Chinese arrived here for trading. Before British Portuguese named it Cochini.

"It was Ma Huan, the Chinese traveler, who first mentioned Kochi in his books of early 15th century. Nicolo Conti, the Italian traveler also talks about the place in his records of 1440. From then on, the name appears in many travelogues and records of various travelers and traders from across the globe as Cocym, Cochym, Cochin, Cochi and so on. It has also been mentioned in some records as ‘Balapuri’, a Sanskrit name that means small town." @@arjunraj823 i am from kochi. We use the official name as Goshree. Not any chin. And those chinese nets have no proven evidence of any chinese connection.

@@ajithkumarkoikkal9409 Go shree is another story not an evidence. Fishing nets is in Kollam area where the ancient port was situated too. Please don't try to erase the history of this region due to current problems with China 😂.
