Nah man, I love your show, I'm a member I watch everyday. That wasn't for you. There was a guy who sent me a comment insinuating that I was being dishonest because it was a KZfaq comment. Hey Jerad, excellent job on the video ! My skills on sharpening over the last 2 years skyrocketed thanks to you teaching the fundamentals, granted I use a K03 to sharpen , but I feel if I had to sharpen freehand I can do it with little to no problem, the fundamentals are there! Bang ‼️

Man I really appreciate the level of detail in your explanation. If there’s anybody I trust to listen to about sharpening, it’s you. There’s certainly lots and lots of videos showing masters at sharpening but they suck at teaching and helping people actually understand the process and be able to recreate their methods. You’re an absolute treasure.

A jeweler's loupe helps a lot to look at your blade edge to see if you're grinding your edge all the way from heel to tip and to see your burr (although you should be able to feel it).

1. Sharpen side A until scratch pattern is completely down the bevel and a burr has formed on side B. 2. Sharpen side B until scratch pattern goes completely down the bevel and burr has formed in side A. 3. De-burr side A using a single reverse pass. 4. De-burr side B using a single reverse pass. 5. Repeat 3 and 4 until there is no burr. Did I get that right? I don’t need to do major reprofiling, so I just grabbed a 600 grit diamond stone from your Amazon store. Love the work you do bro!

2:24 do we pressure on the forward pass (cutting into the stone) or backward pass (away from the stone)? Or is the pressure the same on both passes?

This very helpful. I did a 12-month culinary course, but they spent very little time on knife-sharpening so it never quite clicked for me. They did make us all buy a steel to hone the knives with, which I'm told is supposed to remove small burrs. Is it interchangeable with a strop?

I only sharpen blades against the edge with frequent flipping to opposite sides. It certainly takes longer, but There is never a burr that way. I've learned how to sharpen cutting edges for lathe cutting tools.

i think fresh blades can start closer to 20deg and then gradually go to 17 as the the edge wears down with time. that way it naturally saves you time

Hey Jerad! Thanks for the video, I have been trying to sharpen my old hunting knife for a while now and haven’t been successful till now. It had all kinds of chips in the blade and had to be completely re-profiled, I was able to get it hair splitting sharp with the help of your video! Quick question, do you use oil on the Worksharp benchstone? It says no water or oil needed on it but wasn’t sure.

if im going in both directions i put light pressure on both, you want to let the diamonds or stone do the cutting you have to apply a little pressure but you dont want it to effect your ability to maintain angle which is most important

Amazing video. So the stropping is just for deburring? Or just after a full sharpening you strop just to debur and then you can strop just to maintain going forward?

Yes, you Strop to remove any remaining burr from your de burring process, you also Strop to maintain your edge between Sharpenings, you can also hone your edge, if stropping doesn't work then hone if that doesn't work then it needs another full Sharpening

YOU CAN USE WATER AND IT MIGHT MAKE IT LAST A LITTLE LONGER, I PREFER USING THEM DRY BECAUSE I JUST HAVE TO DUST THEM OFF AFTER, BTW THANKS FOR USING MY LINKS THE ATOMA ARE AMAZING

We use linoleum knives for cutting excess fiberglass resin of bathtubs and if the catalyst dried it too fast then your gonna havehatd time sharpening..we do it on a machine...could you do a video like that

I think a sharpe is good if it helps you, I tend to try and look at the scratch pattern but it's the same thing the marker just makes it easier to see. And yes there's always a bit of a learning curve but with a little practice it's like riding a bike

I watched a sharpening video recently on a kitchen knife where the guy held the knife at a 45 degree angle ( not the cutting bevel , but in relation to the stone front to back) on one side than 90 degrees on the other to create a scratch difference scratch pattern on each side. He said this improves cutting. Do you agree? Have you tried it?

Hey Jerad, great video as usual, brother! You seem to like the Work Sharp bench stone. How about the Guided Sharpening System, the one that’s similar that has the upgrade kit. I remember you gave one away, what were your thoughts on that, or which, would you prefer of the two?

Are you talking about the work sharp precision, I actually still have one, and have multiple videos I think it's great especially if you get the aftermarket attachments that take it to the next level

Overall- clean instruction… to get a burr, pressure is applied when moving material from bevel to apex… correct? It appears your pressure is Apex to bevel.. clarify please, I find that this is the main difference throughout all sharpening videos - what direction to apply light pressure .
