Thanks for the kind words and the time you took watching this little passion project of mine! Saying you like my voice in the golden voice you have is a massive compliment. As an old ESO veteran and former class rep who fully moved to GW2, i can only recommend checking GW2 out. Way more potential for theorycrafting, classes are much more diverse in their playstyles. Hard to sum things up in short comment, but it's definetely worth playing. Open world is sooooooooooo much better designed; once you have been through open world in gw2 after level 80, you'll never enjoy ESO's open world combat again

@@angryscan2970 On the contrary, that's why I left GW2, it started to feel just like an arcade rather than a believable, living, cohesive world. It didn't have much to do with Guild Wars 1 either. ESO feels like an actual world that makes sense all together and the combat is actually more interesting to me because GW2 is just all about flashiness and action. AKA, GW2 got way to cartoonish for me despite me playing it since 2012 and LOVING GW1 back in the 00s whereas I craved the more mature, realistic, set-to-scale world of ESO. Also, it's pretty misleading to play Jeremy Soule music in the trailer that the guy used because he didn't produce ANY music for GW2 after the vanilla game and never will ever again.

@@MaselMMO They aren't really nuts though, they're predictable in all the same ways and you just stand there burning down the boss until it FINALLY dies after you've seen its mechanics a million times. The only difference is that maybe there's MORE ppl attacking it at once but other than that, there's nothing all that more exciting after you've killed the boss multiple times. Sure some of the maps from Heart of Thorns had some cool Map-Wide events that progressed and that was pretty cool, but GW2 has never been able to be consistent in any way, whether expansions, reliably good content, quite large lulls in content, entire chunks of content like Season 1 locked away for YEARS AND YEARS and so on. It really comes down to a preference in style or not. ESO is more realistic, more lore heavy, a more believable world where the waterfalls and mountains and valleys are more similar to an actual place. The skills and weapons are more realistic too as well as the world scale whether the size of trees, buildings or the scale of human bodies and physiques. GW2 on the other hand fully departed from Guild Wars 1 and went FULL ON cartoon, anime, super fantasy everything, whether the size of buildings, the physique of characters, the size of trees or other geographical or biological things out in nature. The spells are INCREDIBLY flashy to a fault for me and so are all the unbelievable armors and weapons, NOT EVEN just the legendary weapons. Then we could discuss the verticality of maps and the map mechanics in a lot of them, whether jumping super high on a mushroom, flying on bizarre wind drafts with your glider, sailing through the air in a "lava vent" and so on, the map design is fully focused on a more arcadey, almost platformer type of world. That's GREAT if you're into that, but don't call ESO "boring" because it's more realistic. ESO is an MMO that follows after old school MMOs and TES games, it's not SUPPOSED to feel like GW2 and frankly, GW2 wasn't supposed to feel like GW2. In all irony but truth, ESO is more of a spiritual successor to GW1 than GW2 was.

@@wowomah6194 from what it reads and as you state, we seem to have different perspectives on what matters. Your posts were (aside from the mechanical aspect about events) mostly about coherence and visuals. I rather have a game that gives me value for the time invested and actual gameplay, class identity and combat depth, and gw2 has advantages in those aspects in my view. Describing gw2 combat as all about flashiness and action doesn't really give it justice though. The combat has more depth, unique playstyles and theorycrafting possibilities than ESO ever had. ESO had the potential to deliver all of that, but the devs have streamlined classes and skills too much for my liking. All classes feel samey. Rotations involved the same things, few unique skill patterns to explore. I fully agree on the visuals btw, ESO looks way better . In fact, gw2s visuals used to be a reason for me to dismiss it, and I've been a huge fan of gw1 because it looks amazingly realistic for its time

I left ESO over a year ago for GW2 and have not looked back , GW2 has lots of things i would change if I could (Having to buy bag space for each character would be one) but i understand they need to make money ,My main reason for leaving ESO was server performance not only in pvp but also pve even though i had 80ms on ESO for some reason the game would be lagging when I was doing dps , The LFG system in GW2 for raids people just dont use it because raids are so mechcanic driven (Well at least I think thats why )But I think this is one of the reasons people dont like it when they join GW2 . If your new to GW2 and dont have a friend who knows the game you will soon quit as there is so much not explained as you get into game but once you do it is an awesome game and the servers (for me ) are perfect even with 50+ people taken on a boss at once .Having to leave ESO for server performance was a big thing for me but I have not looked back .

GW2 has something for everyone, if you want the typical non casual endgame you can go deep with fractals, raiding and WvW. Also GW2 is changing its paradigm to go all in on endgame pve (mini expansion every 3 month instead of living season) and WvW (read about alliances). Read arenanet's 2023 roadmap post.

I really, really don't think GW2 has that strong of endgame at all. How many raids are there after how many years? How many fractals have been added in recent years? What is "end game" about WvW when anyone can get involved at any level where everyone is merely following a commander around pressing their auto attack anyway? GW2 simply doesn't have the same level of endgame content as ESO and it would takes YEARS to catch up to the amount that ESO has currently whether Veteran Trials, Dungeons or Arenas.

I think GW2 is the closest MMO to ESO if someone is looking for another MMO to try. There are differences for sure but both allow action combat, relatively quick global cooldown, a moderate size ability bar, and multiple possibilities for each class (healing, support, dps). One thing I hate in many other games is forced tab targeting and unresponsive gameplay. Both ESO and GW2 feel fast and combos feel satisfying.

Despite the free time and variebility being key issues for sure, starting an MMO by straight out jumping to the meta also leads to quitting faster than any other factor involved. I'm telling this because, from all the people that I recruited into ESO, most who quitted were the ones who powerleveled to jump into the meta in less than 2 days while skipping every other content that isn't PVE Dungeons/Arenas/Trials, with the average lifespan in the game going between 3 months to 2.5 years. So, why didn't he play ESO casually like he's currently doing in GW2? Well, perhaps he's now preventing the same mistake in GW2 that he previously did on ESO. It's a shame that he had never tried other content in the game, but in a way it changed his mindset over MMOs and how solely focusing on their metas limits a game's potential. (edit: Missed a part on the vid where he at least did Tales of Tribute, and probably some Scrying in order to get Mythicals that are meta. Although the message keeps the same for the majority of other cases due to either lack of interest for these features outside of farming items for the meta or being tied to being DLC exclusive features for those who jumpstart straight to the endgame but only bought the base game.)

@yellowboat825 Жыл бұрын
Did you not listen? He did, and he had goals and progressed to them which led him into vet trials where the meta is required or people won't take you. The issue isn't chasing the meta it's ZoS changing it every patch. Imagine if they undid all the nerfs over the past 4 years. They would eliminate meta by creating variety, but they will never do that. Instead, they release an ultra good set, everyone optimizes around it, then they nerf it and start over. The endgame is very limited as there are only 4 dungeons and 1 trial a year for players. PVP is broken and unincentivized leading to a bad experience often. Add on having to re-farm sets and re-gold gear, it's not very interesting. The journey to endgame is great and so is the stuff there until you've done it once, but they release fuckall for vets. When was the last 1 man arena? Also, what do you mean by he never tried any other content, in the video he shows both his vMA and vVH clears?

@@yellowboat825 I'm talking about the whole PVE (including questing/story, exploring, etc), also forgot to write here PVP (Cyro, IC or BGs), Housing and other gimmicks (altho the latter is less important for new players due to being DLC content). No one does the entire PVE zone map on their free time while listening to podcasts about the mechanics and meta guides at the same time within few months, even the basegame alliance zones altogether require in average 3 months (if not more, for me at least) to fully quest them. He basically joined a guild after looking at all guides and straighout went into Vet PVE, which then he sought to progress into the meta. And ,trust me, the 100+ players who I've been recruiting all these years and quitted the same way also told to others that they "done everything the game has to offer" when in fact all they did was just powerleveling to jump into Dungeons, Arenas and Trials, all of them former WoW/XIV veterans. Some of them only traveled to and never left the alliance capital cities, Belkarth or the guild's player house to craft and transmute. Few of them even had the laziest audacity of telling their friends that "ESO isn't an open world MMO" due to sticking themselves to the Dungeon Finder and Trial/Arena groups without leaving the city/house that they're at. TL;DR: These kind of players have a very narrow vision of "everything that the game has to offer", and I know pretty well these kind of guys for years, to the point that it almost feels like a stereotype. Also, when I said meta, it also includes its constant changes as consequence. Sorry if I didn't made that clear too. But I'm used to not telling it because it's present among many MMOs and Online Multiplayer games. Last year was a cancer not only for ESO, it also made me quit PoE after the drop chance mega-nerfs plus already being heavy the fact that every league forces either changes to the meta builds or makes it more difficult to get gear available to previous leagues which can become meta again, not to mention some MMOs where a new level cap (and/or upgrade cap) gets released and you gotta grind (and/or pay) once again. "Also, what do you mean by he never tried any other content, in the video he shows both his vMA and vVH clears?" If you read it clear, I said "skipping every other content that isn't PVE Dungeons/Arenas/Trials", and vMA and vVH are Arenas, which are part of the said exceptions.

@Polvo Corrupto OK sir. If it takes you 3 months to complete any zone in the game, including its trial you are going slower than a corpse. The only content besides what you listed is questing and gathering. Not including PVP. Legit the only things. I played for 7 years and got all zone completion in less than 2 months because that's when I decided to try. All base zones fully done + all things in said zones including their HM Vet Dungeons. Then I took one month to do that for all DLC zones, only thing I didn't get done in that 3rd month was all DLC HMs. But that's really just extra. I think you may honestly play the game so slowly that your idea of how long things take is distorted. Unless you play 20 minutes a week 3 months a zone even 2 is insane

@@yellowboat825 My bad as I thought on Cyro, IC and BG PVP, Scrying, ToT and Housing (with possible extent to RP) before but forgot to write those down, and I thought that I already wrote to make it worse. Also, I said "altogether", not "any". I play the game since 2014 and I took like 5 to 6 months to do the stories of all zones that the base game has to offer including side quests, full exploration and fishing. Did around 1.5 to 2 months per whole alliance storyline, and 1 month in Coldharbour and Craglorn sans vet Trials, which I've done briefly later, except vSO which was my 1st trial without realizing that the nightmare that I've entered at the time was in Veteran difficulty. When it comes to DLC zones, big DLCs like Morrowind and so on take me at average 3 weeks (excluding Trials) unless I get addicted to a DLC's new gimmick (i.e.: Scrying), can extend to a month if I get stuck on the daily quests there with no hurry for the next DLC. Smaller DLC zones like Murkmire usually take my own pace for 1 week (excludes Trials like Asylum Sanctorium but sometimes includes arenas like BRP), might extend for a month due to the 30 daily quest achievements but I usually do them while continuing the next zone after finishing those said quests. Some friends and guildmates do slightly faster like in 3 months, others are slower due to having less time to play or enjoying other ingame activities like ToT or roleplaying, but there are also many others hasting it pretty fast without the zone or overall quests being on their focus. Seen some people doing similar to you, and they were mostly speedreading the dialogues just to finish the questlines for skillpoints. Although, you did not only 100%'d the zone guide but also the achievements, which is kinda good since most tend to ignore much of the zone other than the main questline and at best the sidequests that are located where main quests start/finish for believing to be part of the main one (they even ignore the quests near the skyshards that they always seek for). Still impressed yet confused how did you 100% the base game zones within the same time record as the speedreaders who just did zone mainquests and skyshards.
@yellowboat825
@yellowboat825 Жыл бұрын
@@polvocorrupto You just don't do it with a fresh account or without addons. Addons show where everything is perfect. Then by having 60 speed and stam you also boost through the zones, combine that with 100k dps and you basically melt through anything that isn't vet HM. Last I played I was sitting at 28th on vVH with a 22-minute perfect run, so I guess I like going fast but I don't think doing all base zones with listening to all dialogue would take more than 4 months at 2hrs a day on a fresh acc. Personally, I did skip all dialogue as the last time I enjoyed the narrative was when I was hunting Molag Bal in 2014, after that, I stopped really caring for the story and instead more for completionism and gameplay. Now for Cyro, IC and BG PVP, Scrying, ToT and Housing. I will break them down one at a time. Cyro and IC are decent when there are events but otherwise mostly dead, especially IC which was my favorite pvp in the game, still sitting on about 1m telvar. BGs are annoying after more than about 100hrs due to zero ranking. Theres MMR but sometimes you play the same 11 people over and over. Scrying is definitely something anybody who seriously wants to progress in the game in PVP or PVE do I would consider it more part of the open world due to 80% of the pieces being obtainable from WBs and other overland content. Is ToT the card game? If so that's one of the reasons I quit, they gave knockoff gwent instead of PVP ranked which was the final slap of hundreds over the years. No working PVP or even broken ranked PVP, but they can add a ranked card game? Finally, housing was great but after you get a good house and fill it doing others is really just extensive RP. Also, most of the furniture will be on the crown store if you want specific themes, the rest is overland from scrying once again. So I would still stick with my point of not having much content for veteran players and alienating them in favor of a new player they can squeeze and juice. It's a shame really, best 3rd person combat in any MMO.

ESO is controversial. The answer is up to you. MMORPG genre usually has to be universal in every aspect to attract players, it's not only about sexy female outfits, bunch of classes or dungeons. Eso is not universal gane anymore. This game is primarily PvE, which means PvE is nice here, but PvP isn't balanced well and it can be boring. There's so few PvP content out there, only BGs, Cyro, IC and duels with no rewards. Developers transmuted the game into PvE heavily focused light fairy tail fantasy entertainment, which cannot entertain PvPers or players with great imagination, when it comes to theory crafting. Despite PvP has more options in theory crafting than PvE, in comparison with other mmorpgs, it doesn't give you advantage to use every set and enjoy it. Overall, content is really big, especially in PvE, if you're PvX player you might not leave too early. The fashion in this game is just great, despite it looks a bit like cartoon. Players can mix parts of every style to create their own one. Crownstore is fine too, it gives opportunity to make character's look great, but it becomes more boring and boring next patches, it's like 25% of things worth buying, others aren't. Of course, somebody will disagree with me, but for the majority of people, it's madness. We still haven't good knight's armor costumes, not outfits. The story line has so much lore, but experience of doing quests can be easily broken by realising that your character is like a god and can defeat anyone. Devs still can't make oberland harder. For players who like strategy board games more than action combat perspective games, there's tales of tribute system for them. The optimisation and performance of this game is fine, when it comes to NA megaservers, but on EU megaservers, it's much more worse. The community in this game is great, but don't forget with which type of community you play, because it's very important. When it comes to grind, there's pretty much grinding in ESO, especially undaunted skill line experience for PvP players, arena weapons, trial gear sets and lvling new toons, but it can't be campared to games like BDO or Lost Ark, because in ESO, you have to spent some time on grinding, but it is not a real problem to do it like for whole enternity. The real opposite situation is about gear sets, race and class changes. Whenever you see new patch, it might shock you and it seems like all your efforts were taken for nothing and you have to change your playstyle and of course, it take a lot of time. There is no established P2W system, which is great, but there are some things, which can make your gameplay easier, like their subscription (gives a bag for resources, ability to dye costumes, acess to every dlc, exept the last chapter), bankeer, trader, armorer, imperial race, armory master, character slots, mounts with 2 slots and deconstruction master. But when it comes to pay to win and RMT, players will always find a way to make new capitalist schemes. In ESO, you can buy every dlc, customizing things via in game gold. But of course, players who can sell crowns can earn millions gold, without spending pretty good amount of time. This game also has a great housing system, which is impressive: too many furniture, lights, guests, variety of furniture styles, variety of houses ( from big castles and valleys to really small basements). In conclusion, I'd like to say that the game is worth playing only if you enjoy majority/every of game's aspects. If you only enjoy PvP, you can get bored due to lack of content. If you only enjoy PvE, there's less likelihood of becoming bored of course, but when it comes to discussion of impresions of veteran PvE players, there's likelihood, you'll become tired of PvE and might never return of pne of specific trials. If you're not a girl and don't like fashion, housing or any stuff like that, style of the game might look like 1900's gothic grey horror movies. So, if you're PvXer or PvEr, you can try, it's fine, but if you're only solo player, overland enjoyer or PvPer, things are pretty grim indeed.

When I started playing ESO, it was a lot of what Coniff says about GW2. The exploration of a vast world, meeting all kinds of interesting NPC characters and the casual way of thinking about gear and character progression are things that ESO absolutely allows, if you are just starting out and taking it slow. I have tried GW2 only a little bit and it was not for me, but I have played a lot of other games. The fascination Coniff describes sounds a lot like a typical new player experience and I love having that in a new game. However, I doubt that any game is able to stay that way forever. The more you allow yourself to keep playing casually, the longer it will probably last. But the longer you play, the more you will understand, how things work on a technical level, and at some point you always start to see encounters as a collection of game mechanics rather than a new adventure.

I hope the combat team gets their stuff together or gets changed up some. They have been detrimental to ESO. Craglorn is dang near dead for grouping trials compared to what it was. Endgame trial guilds took a major hit with people leaving. Things take too long to get tested and changed when some community members can take one look at the changes and know it's gonna be bad. I just think his video is incredibly ironic. He thinks GW2 is great because he didn't play at launch like I did and didn't have to sit through years and years of misery thanks to ArenaNet's total falling apart over the years. Whether it was years of lulls in content (no expansions, no quality of life updates, no dungeons, no raids, NOTHING to write home about) or whether it was absolutely stupid mistakes elsewhere, he goes to GW2 with fresh eyes and thinks it's just better than ESO but no, as someone who played it since it launched and GW1 before it, GW2 has next to zero worldbuilding and is paper thin and arcadey. If you want an MMO that does not take itself seriously, then sure play GW2, it's a lot of fun if you enjoy arcadey/platformer style MMOs that are more anime/cartoonish and which don't invest a lot in their lore and worldbuilding and leave plot hole after plot hole.

Like so many others, I play both games, but I first started with GW2 and took a long, long break from ESO after checking it out for a short time after release. I like to play games in company with of others, I like to experience the open world, exploration and story. And I play it casually, but I sink in a lot of hours into this casual playstyle (so - is it really casual?). GW2 just nails all these aspects, and of all the MMOs I know, ESO still is it's closest relative (or competitor) on those things I like. That said, there are still a lot of differences, and an endgame focus on dungeons and similar stuff is just nothing I care about - way too much overhead (premade groups) or risk of being stuck with toxic or speedrunning players (in PUGS). Also in GW2 you can follow the story together for the fast majority of time, instead of basically just visiting solo instances.

I think what people misunderstand about GW2 sometimes is that it isn't people going casual when they pick it up - there just isn't a race to the top that exists within the game. There's no gear to rush to or newest content to rush towards - the gear that was endgame when the game was created is still the endgame gear now. Nothing is really timegated, there's no subscription, and the game is built to go at your pace. The real fun of it is creating builds, learning how to play your build well, and doing whatever you want with those skills whenever you hop in. In PVP you are basically given top level gear/abilities to level the playing field when you enter matches, and PVE, you can buy gear that will do perfectly well in most endgame situations for gold. Skill matters way more than numbers, tbh, in how well you do in endgame content. Some people like the chase but for those of us who don't, it's just a really chill way to play and actually enjoy a game again with no stress or fomo around the next big thing. Your time actually feels meaningful, and no expansion feels like a waste. This is an older video so I'm not sure if you've checked GW2 out or not, but you definitely should someday. There's no downside, it's a great game to pop in and out of and enjoy alongside other ones.

The reason I left ESO. First I played Elder Scrolls games such as Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. Loved it. I was patient with ESO and its many bugs when it first came out and was eventually rewarded. Still I’m a single player at heart and had absolutely no interest in PVP that remains to this day and one of my favorite things to do in an open world game is to explore. What ended up pushing me out is the constant flow of upgrades I order to get parity between player classes for the sake of PVP. That also affected my PVE characters whom I built towards specific goal. At first it was just annoying but as time went on it was grating. One day I just watched the game boot up and thought to myself… Why? Next thing I knew I was playing WOW Classic and player parity wasn’t a thing but sigh mid max was;( Not a fan of that but the constant stream of upgrades wasn’t a thing either.

I remember watching a few of Nefas' videos a couple of years ago when I played ESO, good dude. Do yourself a favor, try GW2 out, but at least get to level 80, not to level 20 or even 50, get to something remotely difficult in the open world. Things don't become challenging until you reach the final three zones of Tyria, where the NPC's will mop the floor with you if you're not careful. Early on, this game is too easy and it may leave a bad impression on some. I've played both games, ESO's end game has slightly more content, but when you factor in everything that GW2 does better, it doesn't matter much. Both games are very similar in terms of overall gameplay. The biggest difference is there isn't a vertical gear treadmill in GW2 as there is with ESO, or other MMO's out there. Taking a break in GW2, you don't miss anything, the game will still be there if you decide to take a break, and your gear will still be as relevant as when you left.

I actually left the same year. I just got incredibly tired of the template they created for new maps where each map just felt like an arcade zone that didn't have any real depth to it, no NPCs just living their lives, no towns, no real believable world that creatures were living in, and there was VERY VERY little put into maps overall that wasn't merely part of a specific gameplay or map completion thing. So the world felt like a bunch of map markers that you completed but there wasn't anything else to find, no secrets, no easter eggs, it felt too much like a video game rather than a real fantasy world. On top of that, the Living World story and story in general of GW2 got incredibly dry and was poorly written. As many would say, the way they dealt with Primordus and Jormag was beyond underwhelming, two of the oldest most anticipated enemies that we were aware of even back in GW1 and they just kill them off in an incredibly lame boss fight after an underwhelming "living world season". I felt like I was being treated like a moron by Arena Net, like they had no respect for the players. ESO for me was precisely the antidote to that problem. The polish on the story was way better, sure lots of stories can feel formulaic after awhile but I never felt like I found myself groaning in cringe at some plot development like "Oh my gooooooooood, ffs, WHY did they think THIS was the plot twist that needed to happen?" whereas in GW2 I constantly found myself whining about that.

It sucks that the game doesn't yell at you to tell you all the different ways to get gear, but if you just ask in zone/guild chat anyone will tell you crafting vipers isn't worth it and there's like 7 other ways to get it. The mechanics, armor designs, and so on have only gotten better since I started. 3 years in and I love the game more than I ever liked GW2. GW2's dev team creates things that sell and get you sucked into a gameplay grind loop to keep you playing the game, it feels like a mobile game in that regard. ESO doesn't do that. It's far less grindy and you can enjoy ESO casually or hardcore but either way you're engaging in an activity that has a purpose whether fulfilling exploration or completing some item set or making money from any and all game activities. And no, not 5 years, only 4 years and I can guarantee you that yes, I'll still be playing and even if I only make it to the same 7 years, I will have enjoyed my time with ESO far more. Funny, I went the other way around. After 8k hours in GW2 (on account that is worth more than 98% of other accounts in the whole fucking game according to GWEfficiency database) I've deleted my account and went over to play ESO full time. Both games have their issues, both technical and gameplay wise. PVP is better in GW2, always has been, afterall this game is a sequel to Guild Wars 1 which had the best structured PVP system out of any MMORPG. sPvP is more skill based and more fun for me but WvW is a zerg mess and has the same issue ESO has (low FPS, zergs being meta, griefers etc.). PvE is fun in Guild Wars 2, but only if you like farming because that's what you will do most of the time. Raids are easy and there's not enough of them, so you will be doing same shit again and again. Fractals even at T4 are braindead. On top of that there's only few build you can play if you are serious about doing raids. I mean ESO has meta as well, like every other MMORPG, but unlike GW2 you can get away with a lot of builds in raids. You can even take one-bar build to Trails and you'll be okay. In GW2 you need to have Quickbrand Guardian, Druid, Alac Mesmer or Alac Rev etc. I mean this has been the meta for years and nothing has changed. It's fucking stale and while there are no hard roles like tank, dps and healer you are still very much forced into this few builds if you are serious about end game PvE content. I guess my ideal MMORPG would be if ESO and GW2 could merge together. Have GW2 style combat but with itemazation (item sets) and build flexibility of ESO. Have GW2 style meta events but with open world having story quests like ESO has. ESO end game PvE, but GW2's sPVP where you can select any type of PvP armor set and everyone is on the same power level.

The current state of GW2's engine suck ass but somehow after 10+ years the combat feels so good and that combined with the open world makes the game feel really satisfying even though their reward system is crap too (I think even ESO has better rewards). Also materials can be sent to storage (limited but there it is) with just one click, no subscription required. I play both but right now I can't recover from some ESO exhaustion, I think GW2 open world spoiled me. It requires to buy DLC to have a mount, more inventory space, or even to be allowed to use trade market Seems like there are no interesting mmo's for me, tried everything and everything is either archaic, old, slow, or its empty, not balanced like New World for example, which needs to years to be a good, balanced mmo with endgame Waiting for Ashes of Creation currently, we'll see

GW2 is a fine game but dont be confused it has issues as well. The major difference between ESO and GW2 is the companies/teams that run the respective games. ESO is a good game (used to be great) run by a bad company. I mean, when you see Matt Firor tell you "we are doing XYZ" do you believe him? I played ESO for years in PVP and got a lot out of that game, upon reflection it was worth it, the good outweighed the bad. That said I dont trust ZOS, I never will.

To be honest, even older zones look better than most of GW2's worldmap. There are other MMOs with better graphics like BDO, but the latter has a problem that other big MMOs luckily don't: which is the very world setting not feeling "alive" or, in a deeper term, lacking graphical harmony with the NPCs, the player, or the lore being told (which I found it scarce ngl).

GW2's instanced content feels so... lacking. The combat feels so meh after playing ESO. Just form a blob, stack boons, and you're golden. Actual danger, best mounts in gaming, tons of collections to fill.

That blob mechanic only works in literally the easiest instanced PvE, any of the actual challenging PvE encounters will get wiped. Played often have to spread out and do different mechanics simultaneously, this prevents any form of blobing outside of the damage phase.

@wowomah6194
@wowomah6194 Жыл бұрын
That's one of the BIG issues with GW2 that I think they got wrong and sort of have admitted they got wrong over the years. In GW1 there were LEGIT quests that would appear in your quest journal after meeting NPCs in instanced towns or out in instanced maps. This included sidequests of ALL sorts whether it was fetch quests of one kind or elimination/assassination quests and also some more complex quest styles. By GW2, they thought they were creating an MMO for the next generation, something new and never before seen that eschewed prior MMO gaming tropes and habits. So, they created the "Hearts" system where ALL sidequests of any kind were delegated to some NPC sitting around the map who you could interact with and he or she would say "Yeah uh, I need you to kill 20 of these creatures, OMG THEY'RE SPAWNING RIGHT NOW" or "Hey look, I'm missing 5 of this lost kittens can you pick them up for me? They're literally in the vicinity though like...oh IDK only with 200 square meters". As you say though, after completing these hearts, the map is DONE there is no replayability reality, there are no interior quest instanced zones or interiors of buildings to speak of, and so the "quests" are mini stories told on quite a small scale. Thus, after the map is completed, there is NOTHING going on in that map except for if it has a legit world boss and even then, it's not something you can tackle with 1, 2, 3, 4 other people, no, instead, you have to wait for a horde of people AND for the specific world boss timer to spawn the boss often whole hours apart. In playing GW2 you can see they tried a lot of different ideas for their map designs, vanilla maps, Heart of Thorns Maps, Path of Fire maps and they each are different enough that they get SOME things right but others totally wrong such that the maps never really succeed in being a believable fantasy world, they just end up feeling like a videogame...
@michaelmyrvang9028
@michaelmyrvang9028 Жыл бұрын
@@wowomah6194 The hearts system isnt really a quest system though, wasn't it added for mostly for people WANTING a system that reminded them of a classic quest system. You dont really do hearts in the game after the starting zone unless you do map completion. You do the map events, those are the real quests in the game, and was always planned as such.

As someone who not too long ago tried G2W I can say the game is alright, though it has its own share of problems which weren't mentioned in the video at all. 1st, Free players can use a mount for 8 in game hours and then are *FORCED* to either buy the expansions or start running everywhere (fast travel costs are scaled with progression and distance to where you TP to, so its not stable rates like in ESO and if you just fast travel everywhere it will burn a sizeable hole in your cash reserves. 2 The daily challenge system is FOMO incarnate and is really predatory for new players, while the challenges are not usually too hard, they can force you to go to other side of the world to do them and really putting a stop to whatever you where doing in the previous zone, the FOMO element comes in the daily bonus, if you complete 3 dailies you will get 2 gold coins, which is a huge amount of money to new players. The FOMO aspect gets bigger as the game has a system where you can convert ingame gold to premium currency which is nice, but as a new player you have so many uses for money that you realistically won't get nowhere near enough money to convert to premium currency.... All of this feeds back into the cycle of grinding daily bonus every single day as the 2 gold is so much more money than what your current level content gives. ( the game uses the classic system of 100 copper = 1 silver, 100 silver = 1 gold and an items you sell in early game average for about 20 copper) 3 the game has most of its cool cosmetics locked behind the MTX shop, limited time events, or loot boxes which you stop getting free keys after a while, GW2 gives you 5-10 leather jackets which most look the same, unlocking paint colors in GW2 is also tied behind the lootboxes and occasional rare drop from world events, but atleast the basic colors can be bought of other players relatively cheaply. (So if you think ESO doesn't give you enough cosmetics as rewards, Guild Wars 2 makes ESO look like a philanthropic millionaire) 4 While the 9 classes in Guild Wars all feel different and fun to play, the 5 races you play as are nothing but superficial cosmetics, the races have few exclusive skills, most of which are absolute trash. The actual meaningful choice about the players race is the voice your character has, so if you try out guild Wars 2, listen few samples of the different races male & female voices beforehand, as you get to listen to that voice actor for as long as you play the game. (for example, the female of Charr race has the same voice as Ikora Rey from destiny 2, so if you do not like her voice, I cannot recommend playing as female Charr) 5 The free to play basegame experience is repetitive, easy, unrewarding, and anticlimactic as all hells, the expansions are a different story, but the main story boils down to, grind menial heart quests which are stuff like (collect X item, kill X enemies, Interact with X machine) when you reach lvl 10/20/30 etc You get the next step of the main story with some voiced dialogue, followed by ridiculously easy fights and you are done, back to grinding heart quests till you get to next milestone level. So yeah, if you actually made it this far thanks for reading I suppose, GW2 is fun experience with friends, and you can get the DLC for relative cheap during sales so the time value per EURO/DOLLAR is pretty good in this game, but If you are a solo player I cannot recommend GW2 over ESO.
@wowomah6194
@wowomah6194 Жыл бұрын
Not to mention that there is almost NO decent instanced story content apart from some stuff in the main story quests but certainly for sidequests "hearts", it's all just out in the open world and makes the world feel incredibly superficial and small....there's next to NO interior spaces like castles, large caverns, dungeons and so on that are made specifically for quests out in the world, it's all just repurposed and reused random places and in general, NO building interiors that are worth writing home about. I somewhat miss the art style of GW2 but I don't miss the fact that most of the trees in the game are hilariously small whereas in ESO when I'm in a forest or near a tree, it is realistically sized and I think that applies to most things in ESO. Meanwhile in GW2, things don't make sense as far as world scale, they're either WAY too large or WAY too small.

Ohh, GW2 is better by miles in PVP terms. Both small-scale, and large-scale: - Small-scale 5v5, with active Balancing and Build diversity is just imaginably VAAAST coming from ESO. There are weekly and monthly arena 5v5 tournaments with streamers and everyone showing up (and it is implemented cleverly, so every player can easily spectate in-game). - Mass WvW with hundreds of players competing LAG FREE in the same zone, sieging castles and zerging or disrupting supply-chains and roaming alone. Cyrodiil feels like a joke now, looking back :( GW2 has its flaws in PvP terms, and no game is perfect, but compared to ESO?!
