In the comics, Negasonic Teenage Warhead is actually a telepath and precognitive mutant. Her abilities were changed for the film due to the fact that the writers thought that by having explosive powers, it would fit more with her name.

fun fact: when they were making the first deadpool movie. they wanted to include NTW in the film purely because of her name. but disney owned the rights for it. so they arranged a trade. they woudl get NTW and disney would get Igo the living planet. who then appeared in guardians of the galaxy 2

I would like to buy whoever edited/was in charge of the sound design at 00:44 a beer or two. The sound mixing between the gnarly sound of her power charging up, plus the actual soundtrack to the scene itself skipping and speeding up right before impact was just perfect. You wanna make an audience laugh one second and then leave them with their mouths hanging open the next? Thats how you fucking do it! The transition from "haha," to "holy fucking shit" was so well done, it almost gave me Sean of the Dead vibes...

Who knew a movie like this would propel one of the most obscure characters in X-men into being a core character. Though with a minor character I guess they can more freedom.
