I’m going to wear mine and not care if it gets scratched up. I’m excited to see what the bezel looks like after I’ve surfed with it for a few years. One of the reasons I’m buying is because Eddie Aikau (North Shore surf hero) wore one back in the day. I’m sure he didn’t care if the bezel got scratched.

I've got a speed master that's been my daily wearer for 13 years and has plenty of scuffs and scratches. When I had it serviced a few years ago I specifically instructed them not to polish the case or replace hands and dial. I like it as it is.

I can't wait to buy a $5,000 reissue of a stainless steel Seiko SKX009 just like the one I already own. And I'll scratch the heck out of it too! Nice one Bruce! Great vid!

Nice job being overly dramatic and rounding up the ol' precio. It's actually much closer to 4k. I'm one of the idiots who paid retail - because I actually love the watch and am not some sicko flipper treating my 033 like a two dollar whore. This watch is an absolute jewel. Guys, the 6105 is a fantastic segue into my last, personal and rather instinctual tendency: throughout my 54 years thus far,? I've always only bought what I LOVE - to hell with what's most valuable or "cool.". Always buy only pieces that speak to you - those you must have - not flip, flippantly. You guys know what I mean.

Negative aspects ? Limited edition and crazily priced. Fortunately Heimdallr makes a really nice and affordable homage ! Their waffle style strap isn't too long too.

I would be curious to know why Seiko didn't stay to the original on the crown locations, I know, seems like such a small detail. That's why it sort of bugs me. The original crown was at 4:00 on center, and the rerelease is at 21 after, just a little off. It is way out of my price range but it would be nice to see it as close to the original as possible. I purchased the Rdunae R2X, an homage to the original and is a very good one. I know, I know, it's an homage, but there is no way I could swing the money to get the actual Seiko rerelease. Nice review and thanks for sharing it.

Obviously cost is a downside. Besides that, the lack of chamfering on the crystal is a disappointment. It was a distinctive element on the original, creating that cool double tick-mark look. I feel that was an oversight.

yep the aluminium easy to scratch bezel is the thing that concerned me on the SLA017, SLA025 and now the SLA033 re-issues, was really hoping all these would have a ceramic bezel insert.

That soft bezel is definitely a point of concern. Fortunately, being thinner than the Marinemaster and the SLA025,makes this watch less likely to bump into things.

All Seiko and GS have relatively soft action.. just different than the Swiss

@@BruceWilliams I was referring to the acrylic overlay on the bezel that is highly polished and scratches easily. It's a "soft" material. The marinemaster is a tall watch making it easy to strike the bezel on things and thus scratch it. It's less of a concern on the SLA033 as its a thinner watch.

This bezel will last longer than a ceramic. Sure it may scratch but it wont break. Seiko stayed true on this as being a tool watch, and I have no problem with it being an owner.

The transparent base over, odd 19 mm strap width, lack of Seiko Stainless Steel bracelet and lack of Screw in crown are major drawbacks.

Why didn’t they get the glass right? The reflection of the minute markers caused by the beveled glass is a Willard signature. It doesn’t look right without it. All the other 6105 tributes have it. It’s a real flaw with this one!

I got the Steeldive and modded it a bit. I got the looks, without the anxiety. It's not the real deal, I'm not trying to fool anyone and I love it, more than I ever could a 4k limited edition. Or the new Prospex for that matter. I thank Seiko for their service in providing great affordable designs for decades, a function at which they not all that unexpectedly but still too soon retired recently.

The turtle to me is a perfect example of a Seiko diver. This is a much better piece on the luxury diver side. That said will still buy Turtles

I own three Turtles. wearing an anthracite srpc j model on a BluShark khaki NATO as I write this. Namoki's coin edge bezel with a LCBI GMT insert and it's the perfect time machine! If Seiko made an actual tool diver with the 8L movement for under $1500 I'd be all over it! Just not the "luxury" watch type of guy. I fully agree with your comment.

@Julie Hill I'm getting the same. I think the 4r movement is a gem! I own a Sumo and the 62 mas 053 with the 6r movement and they require constant adjustment. I would like to try the 8L, just not willing to spend that much. Lol

I saw the title and knew before I even watched it, it was fake news. The only negative aspect of this watch thats valid is they are not mass produced. I should be able to buy so many of these, I could use them as door stops and paper weights but alas its not meant to be. Oh and yea my original 6105 is a pain to set the time also 😜 and your correct if your worried about scratches the best place to keep it is at the AD and let them worry about it.

Heard the old lock feature had a tendency to unlock easily and let in water killing off most of the original ones

Just my personal opinion, but to me that big case is kind of ugo. Very cool old vs new overlay affect!

1. It costs $7000 in Australia. That buys you a heck of a lot of Wagon Wheels. 2. The strap feels almost too soft to support the surprisingly heavy head on your wrist, and feels tacky/sticky.

Everyone is using ceramic on the bezels now. I don't know why Seiko continues to use these aluminium lacquered bezels (although they do look good).

Because the idea is/was to do a reasonably faithful recreation of the original watch. They didn't have ceramic watch bezels in 1970.

It's actually a hardened (with Diashield) stainless steel bezel - not aluminum like we thought. I own one and wear it all the time. It's all I need.

I dislike the waffle strap (it looks cheap and cheesy to me, just like the original), and of course the price. I wouldn't change any other thing about this watch.

Gorgeous watch, but cheated and bought the homage/clone from Heimdallr. No ceramic? I know this is a re-issue but seiko suck at upgrades. The Heimdallr for £100 still has better specs.

But 4K for a look alike? No way. I have a 6105-8119 that I bought in 1976 for $65 in the e Base Exchange kooks just as nice,keeps great time. Why spend that amount of money an a Seiko? It’s not a Rolex.

It's made by Grand Seiko, and is one of only 3 watches to have ever been fully made and finished by Grand Seiko, so it is a luxury watch from a manufacturing sense, with a tool design and quality.

Japanese always put their flagship in the factory band name, not the "luxury sub-band". ie: Toyota Century, not a Lexus. Honda NSX not Acura (except USA), Nissan GTR, not Infiniti.
