On top of those I like to take High Thirst - it's very easy to get around, since you usually find a bottle early and then just make sure to keep it full.

I always take high thirst and slow healer since the game's standard healing is so fast, and water requirements so low.

Imo feeble and out of shape are one of worst traits to take - strength and fitness are really hard to lvl up, plus they are important early on to fast advance in combat skills and scavenge more efficient. Its better to take slow healer, thin-skinned or high thirst

In my longest life thus far, I took both stout and fit, which give you a 125% boost in XP for Strength and Fitness respectively, and did situps every day for like 4 months, and gained maybe a quarter of a level in both with full regularity before giving up on it Basically, whatever level of fitness and strength you start at is the one you will have for the whole game.

@@knightshousegames The 125% boost is what you get in any skill when you start out with 3 or more points. (1 starting point --> 75%, 2 starting points --> 100%, 3 starting points --> 125%) It has nothing to do with picking stout or fit. It's also not really relevant, because this XP multiplier is bugged atm for strength and fitness and does not apply to those two stats. Bugged or not, Sit-Ups are the last exercise you would want to do, as they give the least amount of XP out of all of them. Burpees are usually most efficient if you need to level both strength and fitness. Furthermore you need to keep in mind that during the early levels of any skill (but especially strength and fitness) it takes way less XP to level up, so it's not unrealistic to start with 0-2 Strength or Fitness and get it back up to ~5. Something i like to do is start with 9-10 Fitness (as that would take ages to grind out) and 0-2 Strength, which isn't hard to get to 5, especially if you watch how much proteins you eat (yes, that affects strength XP). On a sidenote, the "125% boost" is actually anything but that. The game considers the XP you would get without any boost to be 25%, so getting a +125% boost pumps the XP you get from 25% to 150%, in other words multiplying them by 6. The game does a very poor job of explaining this unfortunately, but that is the reason starting with XP boosts in certain skill makes such a big difference. Those boosts being bugged for Strength/Fitness also doesn't help.

I'm having a run starting with 0 strength and increasing it by just killing zombies, and the progression is feeling quite fun. On the other hand, taking out of shape seems to be a really bad idea (I wouldn't recommend feeble for a new player neither).

Pro tip, NEVER EVER choose any of the overweight perks. The stat debuffs and exp debuff make the hame unplayable later on. Also, whereas with underweight, you can just find icecream and fats for the first week, those items would likely be wasted with overweight/obese.

You can lose the trait in a few weeks just by eating low calorie foods, this is good because in the beginning of a run when power is still on, most fridges are filled with fruits and vegetables which are low calorie but dense enough to remove hunger, even if loot settings are low enough that you rarely find those, you can just eat whatever you find but eat only when you're at or around 50 hunger, this will making carrying capacity lower, but if you have a decent backpack you can live with it for a few weeks.

@@lawsen3719 Forgot to mention this; but overweight perks make it so you are unable to choose fitness traits, making many aspects of gameplay harder. And also, whenever I play underweight, I can just eat about 3 tubs of icecream and the trait is basically gone. Idk its just my opinion underweight has an inherent advantage over overwight.

@@MsNikkieMichelle Fitness is basically impossible lvl past lvl 7 on normal PZ settings. Unless you kiss your job, Family, social life and schooling goodbye so you get lvl 8 Fitness LOL

High thirst is pretty easy to manage. I usually take thin skinned as well since a bite is a bite. I don't think I've ever gotten infected via scratch.

30% more chance to get injured means 30% more death if you're on "just don't get hit" mindset, take slow healer instead it doesn't increase your chance of death scratch 7%, laceration 25%, bitten 100% btw

​@@jigglypuxx2985 you playing with clothing degradation set to none? or you just never had holes in your clothes? or are you losing to 1v1 with single zed? cuz you're most likely to get injured with multiple zeds the fact is, it's a stat you cannot gain in-game, both thin/thick skinned and your most likely cause of death is zombification in this game it'll have effect eventually the value of defence against death...idk invaluable?

Just try not to get grab play carefully, like if you are fighting multiple zed you either know what you're doing or you just screw up something but it just too easy to just get out of sight of zed. If you are skilled enough and need extra points, take it. If not, just don't everyone have their own play style

impacts not just on emergencies all you do in this game is moving items it basically increases idle game time by twice as much always take dextrous, time is the best resource

Don’t forget about claustro and agoraphobic They’re annoying to deal with initially, but once you’ve survived for long enough the panic becomes a trivial issue Agoraphobic is also easily exploited by keeping your zoom at the minimum. It works on how many tiles you can see on screen

True for long runs For me though, a month or two is all i need in this game I guess i can take it as a penalty Not recommended for beginners though If you can survive early game with these, You definately dont need it later

I mean, definitely don't take these in multiplayer unless you are RPing as one of those worthless characters you see in the background who is the first to go when the base is overrun. Especially Agoraphobic basically makes you a drain on your team's resources in exchange for nothing. You sit around their base and eat their resources, and since you probably play on a server where PVP is off, they can't kill you for it.

Found the insane person take, I'm currently 75 hours into an Agoraphobic mp run (that is almost 4months in game), takes me 15 seconds on minimal zoom until extreme panic. Outdoors combat without beta blockers is a nightmare.

I always choose the deaf trait, mainly because the noises stress me out too much so I play without sound anyway. Easy 12 points

its free points indeed. the fact is, it'll take 5-10 hours more to heal with scratches, 30-80 hours with severe injuries like fractures which can be reduced further by 60% with full stomach

I wouldn't say "it's hell" since really all you have to do is keep open wounds bandaged a little longer. Of course it really sucks if you get a broken bone, but open wounds are probably the most common type of injury the playable character will receive.

Fitness is the most terrible skill to train so I NEVER recommend fitness reduction. Also, if you do want to reduce your strength, you may as well go all the way to 0 since lv 1/2 can be trained in a day. Low fitness will make training a lot harder though.

While i do agree about fitness, i do not agree about reducing strength to 0. I think that is terrible advice because you will lose any exp bonus. NEVER reduce your strength or fitness below 3. At lvl 3 you will have +125% exp while at 0 you will have none. Long story short, if you start at level 3 you will gain 6 times more exp than if you started at lvl 0.

​@@zgoobydan9484 there is no xp bonus for strength at this time. The displayed "bonus" isnt applied for fitness or strength The only xp bonus for strength is protein. PZ is a mess for descriptions I usually run 0 str and get 6 (or 9) xp per pushup. If you actually get more than this un modded, let me know

@@Alabar3000 I did not know +x% exp does not work for fitness or strength. I usually start with 9 or 10 strength so i can't tell anything about exp gains. Fitness i get 300-500 per active day (melee fighting zeds). That's with +125%.

@@zgoobydan9484 yeah funny enough, if you go for custom sandbox mode and check the character tab, you can see an option to enable the xp% boost for strength and fitness. Which means that, the other guys are 100% right, no boost for you ;C

High Thirst and the appetite equivalent are both pretty free too. And I think Conspicuous isn't really that impactful either if I remember right.

I disagree with the hearty appetite trait, water is so easy to find (as long as you don't play 6 months later) and by the time the water shuts off you would have rain collectors, a secured well, etc. However with the hearty appetite trait, food is never free and takes a long time to grow/find. In the winter months it would be impossible to survive without preparation.

@@mattmuller8561 Even with lowered loot, I end up with hundreds of cans of food. With crops still growing in the winter, with fishing and trapping and foraging all still available, and with being able to just explore further out; food typically isn't an issue.

*High thirst* is also totally manageable, I always pick it. *Slow healer* is also a go to. In fact, I feel like those to traits make the game more realistic. And finally, for solo game, *restless sleeper* combined with *wakeful* gives you 4 points to spend and only requiere you to split your character's sleep in 2 parts, as they will inevitably wake up during the night. You can make them read a book while waiting for being able to go back to sleep and grab a couple of hours more of rest.

Do you actually live long enough to train back fitness and strength you lost to those traits? It takes insane long time. Btw what I like to do is to use underweight and athletic on a fire officer so you will still be lvl 9 fitness and not lose the athletic bonus.

Yeah but if you're leaving your base and going out of town, you need to take like 10 water bottles with you and constantly unpack them from your bag.

HARD OF HEARING IS THE BEST, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TURN UP YOUR GAME VOLUME AND IT NEGATED. it dosent reduce the hearing circle around your char and i don’t take keen hearing so it’s free 6 points

Use whiskey bottles instead. They have better held water to weight ratio. I read that on reddit where someone made an excel list about it

Regarding weak stomach you also got to make sure not to eat burnt food. That almost killed me once.

I tested short sighted and never again. I kept losing my glasses because they dropped for whatever reason (zombie hits, vaulting or tripping) and could not be bothered to go look for them. I found out anyway that I like more roleplaying as myself or someone I know, so I only got one optimal character build saved.

No one's going to mention Sunday driver? Gives you 2 points, and the only downside is that you drive slower, which I would recommend anyway, because it helps keeping your character alive. I mean, there's nothing in the game that can catch up with a car anyway, not even on slower speed, so why the hurry? 😉

@@548Benatti Guess thats true, but thats such a specific scenario, that it should be pretty easy to avoid. I mean, we are talking about you already sitting in a working car. If you dont purpously drive into a crowd of Zombies, which you shouldnt do anyway, you shouldnt get surounded without you having a chance to notice it in time.

towing/pushing cars/zeds are pretty important to the point where i always take speed demon off road slows cars, and standard cars have less horse power it's not really about speed, it's about power it provides

prone to illness, thin skinned, weak stomach, agoraphobic, cowardly, high thirst, conspicuous, underweight, and slow reader are the ones I pretty much always take now. Can drop conspicuous if you really want to play sneaky but I want to fight zombies anyway, so it doesn't bother me. You can take adrenaline junkie for extra move speed since you'll pretty much always be panicked. I don't like taking smoker because I hate smoking IRL and can't bring myself to do it in this game either lol plus it's one more thing to manage and I have enough to think about as it is.

The one I feel like everybody sleeps on is Fear of Blood. Basically wash yourself when you get blood on you....which you should do anyway....And you are good to go.

Don't forget high thirst, it's the #1 free-est negative trait, I've never played without it and not once felt like I was being punished by it.

hearty appitite is one of those traits I feel gets slept on its very good people think its worse than smoker because of having to eat constently but with the foraging changes they made so that winter berries are extremely easy to find past foraging 3 it makes managing this trait very easy would reccommend over smoker because finding cigerates especially on very low loot is a pain

It used to be a go to for me but IMO it's not worth it anymore since due to the new nutrition system eating as often as the noodles want you to with Hearty Appitite will make you gain weight really easily. Much better to just pick underweight at the start and not have to worry about what you eat in the earlygame.

@@Markel_A if you eat only very low calorie food you won't really gain weight, just to say you don't need to be near starving to lose weight you just need to have a very low calorie amount to lose weight even when at full to bursting

managing hunger is much more work than smoking you gotta eat vegies which is perishable, and debuffs you if not dealt with it it's having to forage everytime, giving up some inventory space, can't utilize most high calorie foods don't compare it with smoker which only penalty is having to smoke once or twice a day go with high thirst instead if you want some points one more water bottle is all you need it's automatic, no time or effort needed

@@Markel_A yea try just foraging for berries your able to stay full while constantly losing weight for veggies you were able to gain weight with just foraging for veggies but not possible now.

@@Markel_A Also very underweight is useful if your playing on standard settings however if your doing a challenge playthrough with no food very overweight is great especially for winter starts

The asterisk next to Slow Ready should specify to not take it on multiplayer servers, unless you want to stop playing and go read an actual book.

Here's what I don't like about these 'Optimal/Free points' negative traits: TLDR: Prone to illness, Weak Stomach, Overweight/Obese are the only ones worth taking in my opinion, if you want negative traits that are easy to live with or deal with. Smoker: You always have to carry matches/lighter + it takes a few seconds to smoke and you'll be doing that throughout the day, also in the beginning of the playthrough, it always takes me a few days to find some on zombies or in a building, especially harder when loot settings are very low. Prone to illness + Weak Stomach: These might be one of the only traits that I'd consider okay to take, they might be a pain in the ass at some point, but for prone to illness you're okay as long as you find warm clothes. Slow reader: Books are already slow as hell to read, and this makes it even slower, I get that in singleplayer you can speed time up, but it is crucial that a new player spends all the time available in the first 2 weeks to see 'Life and Living' for optimal XP gain and also read some of the books related. Short Sighted: This one is another that might be okay, however if you trip on a fence or somehow fall, your glasses might fall off and you'll regain the debuff. Underweight/Overweight: Depending on loot rarity, either of these is really good, I almost always however just pick Obese, there is more weight + more points, and you can lose the weight in a few weeks, it is also good because you don't need to constantly worry about eating to gain weight like how it is with underweight. Feeble + Out of shape: If you're also picking underweight/overweight or very-underweight/obese, the effects stack and your Fitness/Strength will be really low, and doing exercise to level these up is really slow in the game, it can take a few weeks of training every day just to gain a level.

Personally i like to avoid taking feeble, training to higher levels is always pretty hard, usually you need almost a month to increase your strength skill (it depends on the starting level of course), but 10 points for strong are well spent for my opinion

I really don't like that smoking is part of the meta... It gives a bad message, heavy smokers frequently have trouble running for a long time (not all of them, I know, there are other factors, but lost in pulmonary capacity is a thing)... It should be nerfed...

Strength and fitness are diffiult to level, so other than under weight, I would avoid anything that lower the stats. I also don't like slow reader as I like to max stats gained from TV shows such as getting to lvl 6 capentry. Claustro is free points for me, the challenge being sleep. It can be compensated for by setting up a bed in a large room or drinking booze. Save beta's for fighting. Thin skinned is also free points to me. One bite and your zed anyway. High first is my 'first' choice. All depends on play style though, different games, different traits.

You're being to kind to Strength and Fitness, the exp requirements are mentally insane compared the other skills. Fitness is 30ish to 60ish percent worse than strength to leveling strength. That's because it needs more focused training. Strength you can at least carry heavy things and kill zombies to boost it (slowly)

​@@halcyonways1476 I always use the perks so I start with high fitness and strength, at least 8 or 9. I like a character that can carry as much as possible and I use mostly use long blunt or axe. Firemman occupation also gives points in each, but I generally start with 'unemployed' now. Traits I like are claustro (big rooms or drink beer to sleep), thin skinned (dont get hurt and wear padding), weak stomach (don't eat rotten or raw food), smoker (find ciggies), short sighted (doesn't seem to have any affect outside foraging), high thirst (carry 2 bottles), prone to illness (it's difficult to get sick and easy to ammend with toilet roll, sleep and insulation), slow healer (just eat and/or don't get hurt/injured. Rest up if necessary) and underweight.

High first is one of my go to’s. It might screw you early game if you need to run for your life without finding water bottles first, but once you got 3 bottles you are pretty much set

I took underweight and keep eating food while forgot to check the weight. After the helicopter event, I found my character being overweight.

I never skimp on fitness or strength infact those are usually what I dump the majority of my points into because its a pain in the ass to grind it and it makes a super big difference in actually making your character viable. Ignoring mods more traits (cuz they got some super nasty broken traits in there like hardy and even more negative traits that mean literally nothing but free points) and fitness gain boosters to make it not completely suck in multiplayer My setlist is gonna vary depending on whether or not I'm in multiplayer in single I am totally fine with things like slow reader in multiplayer I cannot stand it I am either gonna take fast reader or illiterate no in-between. A lot of traits like fishing or foraging that I will happily grind for in singleplayer I will opt to just get for multiplayer. Never gonna recommend overweight over under because with underweight you cram food down your food hole 24/7 and walk around with the stuffed buff which is a total positive when you aren't worried about burning calories. Overweight on the other hand will have you walking around weak afs not for being overweight but because you are literally starving yourself to get rid of the weight. Not too mention in the early game food is relatively plentiful and perishables haven't gone bad yet. Don't waste your time on weapon skills unless you playing with more traits the vanilla skills are just not worth. Lots of quality of life reasons to take or not to take perks. I don't like smoker at all just find it annoying to always have a moodle and be constantly worried about having a good lighter and smokes. Hemophobia is also really annoying for that same reason. High thirst as most have mentioned is ez af, sunday driver is whatever but it doesn't give you anything for points anyways so who cares? Lumberjack for life burglar is good too but I think the game is more enjoyable when cars are few and far between so I don't tend to have my game set for that to really be advantageous

Haven't the over- and underweight traits been nerfed so that the accompanying traits like "out of shape" don't disappear once you reached your optimal weight? At least that happened to me one or two patches ago.

if your fitness level is below 5 you have the "out of shape" trait. You can lose it by training your fitness to be lvl 5 or higher. Just as "fit" or "Athletic" can be gained by having a high fitness lvl.

I really really like my weapon skills as they are v v good, and when I take pacifist I always take fast learner cause it negates most of the xp loss from pacifist. I just think pacifist is rough for long term gameplay

@@Stormwind083 Sadly this isn't the case D=. If you pair fast learner with pacifist you still will loose some weapon exp. You can test this yourself with a exp mod or manually do it with the skill menu. You can try this by pushing a window which gives maintenance exp, which is a weapon skill. Try this with 1)a plan character - 2) pacifist Char - 3) fast learner -4) a Fast Learner Pacifist char Or you can crit kills zombies on the ground which gives the same exp every time. the reason for this pair doesn't work in the way that we think is that. PZ takes the base weapon exp 1 and fast learners 30% bonus and adds them together to get something like 1:30. Then PZ uses the Pacifist's Negative 25% to subtract from the 1:30. Which causes the a net loss instead of gaining 5% gain with fast learner. AHHHHH I hope that makes sense =/

for me the best negatives are: 1.smoker 2.prone to illness 3.weak stomach 4.high thirst 5.heafty appetite 6.unconspicous 7.short sighted and if i'm aiming for a marathon run i add out of shape, very underweight and weak so i get more point to add on bonus xp on weapons but don't recomand it for novices players because you start with 0 Strength and 0 fitness

If you say maybe use -2 Strengh / Fitness you should consider starting strengh / fitness 0. Why? the early level are cheaper to gain. Fitness 0-3 is 10500 xp you can gain in about 10 days of fighting.

You're right!! on the other hand the exp requirements doubling for strength/Fitness are terrible unbalanced compared to all the other skills where they don't double for each lvl

@@halcyonways1476 well if you can handle a fitness 0 char you get a fitness 5 after 50 Days.(i killed in about 10.000 Zeds in that time) and you need almost the same ammount of xp 5=>6. if you really want a lvl 7+ fitness char its unrealistic to choose a char without fit etc. But Low fitness isnt so hard if you grind up short bladed weapons with hunting knifes. You get them very often if you kill Horde of Zeds.

Regarding overweight and underweight. The wiki states that your max fitness is 9. Does this limitation go away once you hit a normal weight number? Cuz if doesn't, you didn't mention it which is crucial cuz long term you're actually gimping your character much more. Not so much early game. Not to mention everything else the wiki states, but I assume those are just descriptions of being in that state of weight. Some trait descriptions say that "the trait itself give this or that" which isn't present here.

Even if it doesn't go away, it's a limit you're not going to hit unless you are insanely good at surviving because fitness and strength takes a long time to level, even with proper excercise

I was always kinda paranoid about "Prone to Illness" because I worry that it could increase the chance of a Scratch or Laceration causing zombification. Obviously being bitten has absolutely no chance of surviving, but scratches only give a 7% chance of contracting the zombie virus and lacerations give a 20% chance (or maybe it was 25%). Does adding the "Prone to infection" trait increase the probability of scratches and lacerations infecting the player with the Knox virus? If so, by how much?

Ik this is 3 months so you already know the answer probably But seeing as there is still no answer No, only "thin-skinned" makes it more likely for you to get lacerations of scratches. Prone to illness affects colds and how fast you get zombified.

Well...maybe you never tried a lumberjack with build in increased axe speed, plus fit and strong (10 strwngth and 9 fit). You will be a killijg machine right from the start plus you have 20 carryweight in your main inventory which increases exponentially with a 87% military bag🤷🏻‍♂️

I just started playing and suck hard at this game so I gave myself 40 free points and still kinda suck. I just wanted to get used to things and how to craft and see the map. I can't imagine doing it legit and have negative and or less skills, this game is hard when you have ne clue what to do.

Whats the point on having 41 points to spend and most god traits are blocked if you pick the negative version. you cant pick strong if you pick feeble... it doesnt make sense to pick so many negatives for positives if it ends up blocking the really good ones you want o get.... Also a sleeped on negative trait is unlucky. its pretty minor and also free points. the 10%less rare loot isnt noticable that mutch. I also dont recomend picking prone to illness and pick outdoorsman. Its very bad when you have a cold and with outdoorsman you can just stay outside for almost forever and you will like almost never get sick

On a server i choose a character with the pacifist trait bad thing is that i dont want my character to die becouse i spend some hours with that character so i am mad that i have 25% lower skills gain from weapons, so dont pick the pacifist

I pick sunday driver and unorganized for one big reasons. A: not organized in real life so it fjts B: why drive fast when the fastest thing you have to worry about just about matches your walking speed? They only add a few points so definitely add some of these on top.

A: wrong, this is mostly a looting game, being able to carry less hugely limits your looting ability. B: sunday driver makes going offroad in a non offroad vehicle nearly impossible, makes towing very difficult, can get you trapped in a horde because you cant drive out of a gap quick enough.

Some ppl say that high thirst is also a must have but it contradicts with weak because you need to carry more water. Also its just very uncomfortable to have 1/5 of gameplay filled with pouring water in bottles

Couldn't DISAGREE more. 1. Weak is a terrible idea anyway, debuffing your strength and fitness is in general. It can work if you're doing firearms, but even then you'll still probably want to use melee weapons sometimes, and the lower carry weight is a pain (for reasons other than the extra water bottles you say you supposedly have to carry) 2. You don't need to carry more water, you can still get away with only carrying one bottle. Sure, 2 is better, but far from necessary. 3. You're exaggerating how much time you'll spend filling up bottles. They also fill up quick, so even if you do it often, it's done quickly. I find a lot less annoying than, say, reading. Reading in general, even with fast reader, let alone slow reader.

Feeble is a good negative trait, but please for the love of god dont take Out of shape, low damage? no problem, keep smashing them and eventually they will die, low carrying capacity? get a backpack, its everywhere. If you get overwhelmed by zombies make sure you can run from them, being exhausted mid fight with horde chasing you would suck. Also, strength and fitness are the two most difficult stats to level up, of the two strength is actually the easier and more pleasant to level up, with high fitness you can exercise your arm more effectively, theres also dumbells if you can find them, fighting zombies and carrying high loads will also increase strength, and the lower your strength is, the faster it is to level up so you can hit level 5 fitness pretty fast to make feeble go away, all not possible without fitness traits. Another thing is of the two Overweight and Underweight, i take Underweight all the time, its better to eat and be full then just starve yourself, full stomach boost your damage, healing rate etc... Athelic + Feeble + Underweight is a great combo, just eat exercise and repeat, once you get level 5 fitness you are good to go, its too easy.

I heard once that you can go negative in fitness (maybe strenght too?) and that prevents you from ever reaching true level 10 as you start from the negative and stop gaining exp once you max at 10 levels. Anyone can confirm this?

Kind of true, but completely wrong. This is how it works: You can only go above lvl 10 benefits when you gain strong/athletic at character creation, this requires you to start at lvl 9 or higher respectively for strength/fitness. Otherwise it will be purely cosmetic.

I was playing on a server with 13x exp bonus and I had lvl 9 fitness. It took me one year in game to get 140k exp of the 150k requirement to get lvl 10 fitness. I was doing the squat marathons during hurricanes and winter storms. but the normal game settings are for 1exp........... so you do the math lol The main things to know about Strength and fitness like Akixkius was alluding too. you can go reasonably go from lvl zero to lvl 4 or 5 strength and lvl Zero to lv 3 or 4 and half Fitness in a 3ish month in a heavy combat playthrough on 1 exp after lvl 6 the So that every on knows The target lvls for strength/Fitness are 5 Normal game play 6 Strength gives the Stout Trait (14 kilos carry load and a estimated 20% melee damage boost) 6 Fitness give you fit bouns (it's harder to notice but you loose a little less stamina while fighting//running. You regen stamina a little faster while sitting and resting) 9 Strength gives the Strong Trait (18 kilos carry load and a estimated 40% melee damage boost) 9 Fitness gives the Athletic Trait (your gonna love this upgrade =D. You can jog for 5 or 6 mins straight in real time before the winded moodle pops up. You regen really fast while resting and sitting at the same time. plus you can swing your weapons more often) Overall, i think higher strength is better for newer players. Since you can see the difference in carry weight. Or you can just use hunting knives and spears making all the above info worthless hahahah

Slow reader is annoying. Even with sped up time, it still takes a ton of time, both IRL and in-game. Not to mention it makes it impossible to meta-game Life and Living if you're looking to do that. Overweight/underweight - as I understand the minus to fitness you get with these does NOT go away when you fix your weight, so that's a no from me. Feeble and out of shape are also a terrible idea. Strength should be as high as possible if you're going melee (which you are, if you're a newbie) and fitness means you can fight for longer. Having to rest more often is not necessarily that big of an issue, getting exhausted in the middle of combat because you engaged a larger number of enemies, is. I never take these, quite the contrary, I ALWAYS take strong and athletic. Now, what can you take instead: High thirst - easy to manage. The most negative you'll get out of this is that you'll carry 2 bottles of water instead of 1, but you can still get away with only carrying one. Hearty appetite - with the fix to calorie burning while walking/sprinting in the latest build, you can easily manage your weight even if you take this.

u should note that smoker is annoying af because you have a constant permanent additional chore to do and the -1 fitness penalty for under/overweight is permanent and DOES NOT get negated by ideal weight. since fitness is the most annoying thing to level and one of the most important skills, this is a serious decision you have to make dude.

Pacifist, high thirst, hearty appetite disorganized and unlucky are pretty much free points too. Just get one of the skills that give you a multiplayer for a weapon type like baseball player to get extra weapon exp for free. Disorganized can be a bit of a bother when it comes to space in cars but with a trailer you should still have more than enough. In your base, just make a few more storage boxes. Unlucky just reduce your chance of getting rare loot (like axes and rare magazines) by 10% but it’s hardly a bother in the long run. Fitness and strength negative traits are definitely not worth getting, both skills are a pain to grind.

once or twice a day first stress moodle doesn't have any effect -10%/-20%/-30% melee dmg for more stress so it's not so bad even if you don't smoke a lot keep in mind that first moodle of tiredness is -50% melee dmg in comparison

I've always picked Hearty Apetite, High Thirst, Slow Healer, Smoker and Underweight. Food and water isn't hard to find, chain smoke thousands of cigarettes that you easily find and wounds take longer to heal which feels a bit more 'realistic' imo. Also thin-skinned since a bite will take out the chaddiest of characters anyway.
