He seems smart enough to know the follow-up question. Implied in “what % chance do aliens know about us,” he skips that to say “in order for an alien to know about us, without us already telescope spotting them or their structures, they have to be so advanced that we aren’t worth opening dialogue with.” Scary thought, but does answer what that % would have to be, and likely think.

i mean that’s valid reason but i feel like it would probably be slave labor if anything. I mean if aliens have the spaceship technology to travel across the known universe or wherever in space they come from it would be safe to assume that they already have plenty of resources, or found other planets with far more resources than earth. let’s be honest on earth we’re already running out of natural resources we have a finite amount of metals,gases such a helium and all kinds of other shit. Resources we have are probably inefficient for a space faring race they can get it from other planets with none of the hassle. Slave Labour would also likely be useless due to mechanization and robotics likely being a larger part of a space faring race. Livestock would also not be very likely as we’re still an aggressively resistant species who is terrible for farming due to our long reproduction period and bad meat ratios. Neil isn’t wrong that we’re probably not that interesting for one and we’re way more hassle than we’re worth. Even if you have spacecraft and the like, our weaponry is still terrifying to any flesh or biological entities.
@omgsouthpark7659
@omgsouthpark7659 Жыл бұрын
You have a human mind. Humans use others resources, slave labor, and use livestock. That’s why people are afraid of aliens visiting. Because people assume they’re like humans. What Tyson is saying is, if they’re so advanced, why would they even want to do that to humans, when they are different and probably have found ways to be more efficient at things than “slave labor”. If they had Ai, why would they need slave labor? If they don’t eat, why would they need livestock?

I always thought it was an amazing concept.

I remember a short story about a giant alien empire finally coming to Earth. It explained that they conquered tons of planets with crazy galactic wars and proved they are a military and tech powerhouse. They showed up to a 1980's earth in basically Napoleon Era weapons and tech. They get murdered. Come to find out, Antigrav tech is super easy and most galatic civilizations figure it out next to figuring out the wheel. We just didn't and instead worked on war.
