I think he's correct, but why did you get a robot to film it?

Behind every space robot there are a lot of humans. Human are just needed in space if the decisions need to be done in real time, or maybe because they have some better motor skills, for now.

Why don't we value the engineers or the inventors of the robots then? Through their scientific contributions, they're paving the way so that we can one day send millions of people into space to colonize other planets.

Really the biggest factor with sending a human is just the greater sense and pride we get from it. We're proud of the *scientists and engineers* who made the mars rover, we're proud of *Neil and Buzz*. It's a nice thought to think that our creative touch has marked mars but god the idea that someone with my flesh and blood who grew up in a house like me and breathed the same air as me and laughed at jokes and listened to music like me is walking on another planet just blows me away because I can imagine what that *feels* like to be there. I'm a math and physics major at a top university and a Putnam fellow and would love to go into academia, and we seemed to forget sometimes that scientists are human long before they are researchers. I'd leave everything behind: my family, my research, my love of mathematics, all the physics in the world cross my heart and hope to die just to walk on mars for a day just to *feel* that. I'm sure I'm not alone.

I'd really rather just hear him talk. Neil deGrasse Tyson is a brilliant dude. He doesn't need a shitty overlay, bland animation or googled images to get his point across.

Such a robot would be able to upload itself and gain a new robotbody though.. essentially it would become a hivemind thing that would be glad to send spare parts out to gain a wider spectrum to navigate

Neil's speach was great but I'll still have to downvote this video. Because of the unecessary effects - blue shattering and noise - I now have migraine. I quickly stopped looking and only listened as I realized it but I was already too late at that point. I have one question for you, Mashable: Why?

So he says, if you're only interested in science, send a robot. But then he says, that you need humans for the science bit, since robots aren't advanced enough? So he's just blabbing nonsense like always?

What I'm hearing is this "Let's waste a few people in order to inspire more people to die in space!" Gee, that sounds very efficient, mr genius astrophysicist. I guess we're very overpopulated, so it does make sense if you're using really cold logic.

Analysis? Don't they just store the data or just send it? Who says that they have to depend on the human/robot on the spot to do it? Aren't they gonna send the information, whether it's raw data or an interpretation anyways? Why care if the human has a higher chance of making a better interpretation, you have plenty of time to interpret it once it reaches back our planet. Don't really agree with how he reasons stuff out in this video.

ok then lets try a thought experiment. i just found the most beautiful perfectly shaped pair of breast on this gorges chick, would you rather i send you pictures and describe how amazing they feel, send you pictures of and just tell you how great it was OR would you rather come yourself and feel and enjoy them to the full extent. you decided

I'd pretty much value efficiency and more progress for science than just for a few astronauts to get dumbfounded by how pwetty stuff in space can be. The primary purpose of these travels is to progress science, not jack off to the experience that, get this, ONLY TWO OR THREE PEOPLE get to experience, NOT YOU, THEM. You're not thinking this through man.
@misticfury9546
@misticfury9546 7 жыл бұрын
Your misunderstanding, in my own opinion their is no greater value then going and doing things yourself, if not their is no point to it. you can send as many robots as you want to a planet and store all the information in a record ok, now why? if all you do is collect information their is no point in my opinion your not achieving anything. science exists because we human are creative, imperfect being that strive to be better. We want to go to mars to better the human species and open doors that would never been opened if all we did was look at it thru a telescope. robots can be used to give us a heads up but in the end if we truly want to whole picture and understand we will have to eventually go there ourselves Sending only robots is like designing the perfect car and in the end not building it.
@TheGreatslyfer
@TheGreatslyfer 7 жыл бұрын
"You're not achieving anything." A better understanding of reality is an achievement. "Sending only robots is like designing the perfect car and in the end not building it." You realize the people designing it are not the ones going in the spaceship right?

Nothing you said is remotely interesting. Here are 5 reasons why. 1.) No scientific evidence, sources, comparisons or connections. 2.) Complete speculation, about as useful as asking a random guy if aliens exist. 3.) Video quality: I am that much less likely to listen to anything you have to say, because you lack a quality video. (Seriously, who thought filming it this way was a good idea?). 4.) No background or introduction. You didn't tell us anything about yourself which tells us you have no experience, understanding or knowledge of the subect your talking about. Leading back to my speculation point. Literally anything to connect yourself to the topic would have been useful: you took a class in robotics, you earned a degree in space engineering (if that's a thing), you read an article on google. Literally anything to make you worth listening to. 5.) Your not James Veitch.
