We go back to 1969, a truly moving year. VFL Osnabrück won the German Cup in table tennis.
In 1969, the television tower is inaugurated in Berlin and in 1969, the French army decides to withdraw from a joint helicopter program with Great Britain.
Oh yes, a certain Neil Diamond sings about a certain Caroline for the first time in 1969 and gives her the attribute “sweet”.
And it is precisely this piece of music with the name Sweet Caroline that the Wilhelmshaven Naval Music Corps presents us with the answer to the question posed at the beginning: how is this all connected?
In an interview in 2007, Neil Diamond revealed that a certain Caroline Kennedy inspired him to write his song - the eldest daughter of John F. Kennedy, who is now the ambassador of the United States of America in Australia.
The helicopter that the French army refused to buy in 1969 was a certain Westland Lynx, which can also be seen in this video. Best wishes to the naval aviators in Nordholz.
By the way, our current Minister of Defense was born in Osnabrück and is a big fan of the VFL there.
But now, the Naval Music Corps Wilhelmshaven under the direction of Frigate Captain Matthias Prock with - Sweet Caroline.
